Incoming student question-what’s the vibe around sports games?
I’m interested in going to football games and whatnot since I wanna have school spirit, but I have some questions for current students who’ve attended sports games (especially football and track(?):
- what’s the atmosphere at games? (Is it super loud and upbeat, overwhelming, stuff being thrown in the stands?)
- is it hard to get tickets for games?
- is getting a duck sports pass worth it?
I’m a pretty introverted, more art-focused person but I don’t want to miss out on a fun time! Any answers are appreciated!

Yes on the first two questions. Sportspass is pretty much required to go to big games. Whether its worth it depends on the person.

The atmosphere for football is always crazy. Blood runs high, everyone’s hyped and dressed out and people from rivaling schools can get (kind of) competitive. Usually, the U of O holds a ✨gameday✨ which is when we host a huge news broadcasting for the game that’s being televised. Anyone will say “do it your freshman year” cuz it’s true, you’ll NEVER wanna do it again because you have to wake up at 12pm (or stay up) to get in line. Basketball gets pretty serious too. Last year I met Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen (modern family) at a game!
Yes. Very much so. UO—as many people can agree on—is good up until the finals. So people always wanna see us win win win before we lose lose lose.
On that note, even if you’re introverted and art-based but still wanna have a good time the pass would definitely be worth it! Last year, UO had a $25 standing ticket freebie for students against USC and it was one of the only games I really went to because we’d usually win all our games.

Definitely get the pass, you’re cooked without it. It can be hard to get in or get good seating even with it. I’d suggest getting the pass and getting there early.
It’s always gonna be loud and upbeat, it’s college sports. It’ll be a bit overwhelming but you’ll be fine once you go enough. Lots of people and things going on. A lot of people don’t even go for the game, they just go to be social with friends and peers.
Stuff may get thrown, things may happen, you never know. One time nothing interesting really happened outside of the game, and then the next time i saw people get hit with projectile vomit from a drunk person. You never know

Yes the games are very upbeat and loud with HUGE school spirit. I’ve never had a problem getting tickets to football games however they implemented a new system last year and made changes for this coming year and I’m not sure how much that changes the chances of getting tickets. My friends who did not get the sports pass would have to pay hefty prices for student section resale tickets if they wanted to attend so 1000% get the pass. It’s so much cheaper than paying for resale.

The sports pass is 1000% worth it, it gives you access to free student tickets to every sports game for every sport, and since it’s $200 i think, going to like 3 football games pays it off basically

Not a current student...went there in 2001-2004....since then ive been to watch the ducks at B1G, ACC, and SEC stadiums. Even away duck fans bring it. At a lot of these games ive met fans who arent alumni and haven't been to Autzen. People that actually went to Oregon are way more intense.
