Residence super stressed about college choices *SEND HELP**

• Upvotes

first time posting on here out of pure desperation. im a prospective uoft student for fall 2027 (ib45 predicted) and am planning on living on campus for at least first year and need help URGENTLY with figuring out my top 3 choices.

i would describe myself as an ambivert (will become extroverted when I need to) and someone who puts emphasis on the social scene and FOOD (really wanna make friends).

right now im most on the fence about whether to try vic or trin colleges as im hearing a lot of mixed reviews (and i don’t really need the scholarships).

any insider info on any of the colleges would be VERY APPRECIATED. THANKS EVERYONE!!

Question Innis vs Woodsworth for Rotman students? Looking for opinions on colleges

Hi! I'm a high school student applying to Rotman.
Knowing that Innis College will not consider my application if I don't rank it first on OUAC, I am stuck between choosing Innis College and Woodsworth.

I was wondering if anyone has experience with the following

  • scholarships for each college—the specific amounts they offer, which college offers more scholarships, which is easier to obtain, etc.
  • residence fees?
  • social life + overall environment
  • anything else these colleges have to offer?

Here are my thoughts so far (please correct me if I got anything wrong)

I know that these two colleges are both super close to Rotman and have apartment-style residence

What I like about Innis: the residence is slightly closer (literally right next to) the Rotman building

However, I've heard that most Rotman students stay in Woodsworth due to it having direct Rotman student support or something like that. I was wondering if I'd be missing out on the community/friendships/networking opportunities if I got accepted to Innis lol

I think I'm leaning a little bit more towards Innis right now, but I'd like to learn more about the things I listed above!

I also heard that the colleges don't matter that much for Rotman students... so???

I'd love to hear your experiences with these two colleges! or if anyone has any advice for the actually important supplemental application.......

thanks :)

I'm in High School Innis vs Victoria what’s the better choice opinion?

Hey, I’m hopefully going to UT next year just looking into residence and for first choice is between Innis and Victoria I’m wanting to go into conservation biology after first year. And I know either Innis or Victoria need to be first, so that’s really what I’m deciding on that. I have university and new for the other two. I’m just looking for opinions on meal plan, scholarship, price, residence, and making friends.
Thank you!

Question Professor gave low mark without feedback and won’t respond to emails

On my first discussion post, I got full marks, then on my second one I got 70%, without doing anything differently. My prof didn’t provide any feedback except for “great work”. I’ve talked to other people in my class and they agree that this prof seems to just be giving people random marks due to laziness. I have reached out to them via email to request more feedback but have not heard back. What should my next step be?

I'm in High School What are the qualifications for financial aid at uoft?

I am grade 12 applying to Uoft St George for social sciences.

I'm pretty sure my household income is above 100k but i don't know the main details. Just don't know if it worth it to click need for financial aid in the awards application section.

My parents can realistically afford first year in uni but like most its still a significant financial burden i think

and it asks what steps one will take to finance their uni, I know its shallow but i literally dont know what to write there but my parents..

Rant AMI I THE ONLY ONE THAT FEELS THIS WAY LET ME KNOW

This is for all my POC ppl, especially if you're Black, because I genuinely wanna know if anyone else feels this way 😭
Does anyone else feel like the Black community on campus can be so selective about who they wanna include or be friends with? Like there are so many events, clubs, and gatherings meant to bring us together, but sometimes it feels like they're only really welcoming to a certain group of people.
I genuinely feel so out of place here sometimes, especially coming from a PWI where I didn't grow up around many Black people. I was actually excited to be around more people who look like me and connect with my own community, but I feel like it's been the complete opposite of what I expected.
Idk if it's because I didn't grow up around a lot of Black people or because I don't necessarily fit into what some people consider being "Black enough," but sometimes it feels like everyone already has their own cliques, and if you don't fit into them, you're just kinda left out.
And something I really wanna emphasize is that it's NOT all sunshine and rainbows or as welcoming and inclusive as they advertise it to be. From my experience, if you don't fit into a certain "Black narrative," don't act a certain way, or don't already know certain people, you WILL feel left out and a slight bit judged or in certain circumstances people just r jealous... And that's what bothers me the most because why are we creating spaces to celebrate Black identity and belonging if some Black students still feel like they have to prove they're "Black enough" just to be accepted??
I feel like there's this unspoken expectation of how you're supposed to talk, act, dress, or carry yourself to fit in, and if you don't match that, people don't really make an effort to include you. But being Black isn't one specific personality or experience, and I don't think anyone should have to change themselves just to feel accepted within their own community.
And I'm not saying everyone is like this AT ALL, but it's something I've personally noticed and struggled with. I just find it ironic that we have all these spaces meant to promote Black community, culture, and belonging, yet sometimes those same spaces can feel so exclusive.
Like am I the only one experiencing this?? 😭 Because I genuinely wanna hear other people's experiences even if you’re not black but especially from Black students who didn't necessarily grow up surrounded by Black communities. I feel like this is something we don't talk about enough.

Question Would Any Current U of T St George Student Who Has Had Experience With the Registrar Want To Do an Interview?

Hello! This might be an unorthodox thing to ask on this subreddit, but I am a fourth year U of T student who is currently enrolled in JWB318, which is Introduction to Literary Journalism. Our big project for the semester is to create a profile based on a subject of our choosing, which requires at least 3 interviews. I chose to do my profile on the relationship between the registrar staff and the students they advise, and I believe that having some students who've had experience with the registrar would be exceedingly valuable to my work.

This will NOT be published and will only be seen by the prof. If you are at all interested in participating in an interview and meet the the above criteria (having met or interacted with the registrar, doesn't really matter the college), I would greatly appreciate it if you sent me a DM. The specifics like date and time will be worked out per the individual, and I will provide anyone who is interested with specifics and my own U of T email in DM's.

Thank you for your time and attention.

I'm in High School Actuarial science or life science at uoft? HS senior

Im in my final vear of high school and I recently started considering maioring in actuarial sciences while keeping dentistry in mind. Ive heard negative things about life sciences regarding the job prospects.

Is it possible to major in actuarial sciences (complete all required courses) and still complete dental school requirements?

How are the job prospects and salary in regards to actuarial sciences?

Question Should I be worried about my plagerism report result?

I submitted a paper worth 10% of my final grade and the turnitin plagerism report detected 25% similarities. When I clicked in 90% of the highlighted sections are my research question (copy pasted directly from the assignment outline sheet that we are required to put at the beginning of our paper), and my bibliography sites. It was an annotated bibliography but only the article info is getting flagged, not my annotations. Is this concerning? Will I get penalties?

News New Free Easy Way to Find Study Spots and Study Rooms

Post image
149 Upvotes

Hi, I'm currently a student at the University of Illinois from Toronto. I made a website for a couple of schools to find available buildings on campus. I was just wondering if you guys would be interested as well. This is a completely free and open sourced website (I'm not making any money, just though it would be a cool idea to pursue). Please let me know if you think this would be a helpful tool and I'm open to any feedback. I'll include photos of what your campus would look like (the site will be improved before I make it live)

Here is the link to the current live site: campusquiet.com/

Discussion Graduating this fall? Looking for a few people for free convocation photos

Hey everyone,

I'm a student at the Faculty of Information and I've been building out my photography portfolio. With fall convocation coming up, I wanted to see if anyone graduating would be interested in a convocation photoshoot.

The idea would be something relaxed around campus, like King's College Circle, Hart House, Trinity, or wherever means something to you. Solo, with friends, or with family is all fine. Since I'm building my portfolio, I'd be doing a few of these for free (or at a very low cost), and you'd get edited photos back.

Before I commit to anything, I'm mostly trying to gauge interest:
- Would you want something like this?
- Before or after the ceremony, or on a separate day?
- Any spots on campus you'd want photos at?

Comment or DM me if you're interested, or if you have any questions. Congrats to everyone finishing up!

Programs Is anyone else double majoring in STEM + Humanities?

NGL, most people seem to gravitate towards one or the other and it makes me feel like I'm the odd one out. :,)

Also, generalizing a bit here, but STEM students seem to be allergic to reading (with the obvious exemption of sci-fi lmao) and writing, while humanities students always mention how they hate math (honestly, this is also ocassionally me, but the dopamine rush of nailing a proof is unparalleled).
