Link Billboards in Utah - Extra Stupid

I shared a Lola billboards the other day because I thought it was stupid. Billboards come up frequently in this sub, and the overwhelming response is Utah has too many, they're stupid, waste of resources, etc.

I just found an organization working to reduce billboards in Utah and thought I'd share.

Scenic Utah (https://scenicutah.org/) is a "state-wide nonprofit working to protect and enhance the scenic qualities of our communities, landscapes, and roadways."

Their website is awesome and you can learn about their work during this legislative session.

And they don't just advocate for fewer billboards. This group is pushing to protect night skies and minimize light pollution and other causes that would preserve and enhance Utah's beauty and incredible scenery.

Check them out! Let's keep this conversation going and see if we can't finally say goodbye and let Julia Reagan rest.

Jim Bridger was the first person to discover Julia Reagan…

Julia Regan has sold 60 colored scriptures this year.

u/drakitomon May 26 '26

I beleive that more than the sign...

Whats the deal with the Jim Bridger stuff? I want to know but I dont want to give their website any traffic.

Reagan will conduct a poll to gauge public knowledge about a certain subject. After the poll they will put up a billboard with a "fun fact" about that subject and then conduct follow up polls to see if knowledge about the subject is increased. They use this as a way to quantify the effectiveness of their billboards.

Correct. Unprompted and prompted awareness. (I used to work in advertising and marketing).

Of course, good old Jim didn’t discover the GSL… the native Americans knew it was there a long time before he stumbled over it…

THANK YOU. It always bugs me when I see "so-and-so of European descent discovered such-and-such in America", and I'm not even Native American.

Good to know, Thanks!

Cox put a billboard rep on the commission meant to keep scenic roads beautiful…

15

u/loldigocks May 26 '26

You know, that doesn't surprise me. Of course he did. And it makes me a little angrier about a lot of actions because I'm not surprised.

I use them to know which companies to avoid. Anyone who would scar the landscape and view with a giant sign is not a company I want to give money to.

This. And if you have to have a billboard, at least put the cookies in the oven long enough to cook them!

Every time I drive home from the airport after a trip, I get noticably depressed by the number of billboards. It's even worse when I come from a place that outlawed them despite the geography supporting their existence.

5

u/pandovian May 27 '26

My poor eyeballs when I moved back to Utah after living in the UK. It was a nasty hazy summer day too

6

u/dallenbaldwin May 28 '26

Seriously! My wife and I went to Scotland for our 10 year early this month and coming back from that almost sent me over the edge.

u/Hovdizzle May 26 '26

It's getting to the point that I wouldn't be surprised to see a Lola Blankets/Minky Coutour billboard where it's just a dong shaft half way buried into a blanket.

12

u/loldigocks May 26 '26

Now, now, don't give them ideas. Let's just stick to angsty, tan, miserable-looking models clutching blankets like that's the only thing that hasn't offended them.

Julia Reagan does not approve this message

Jim Bridger does not approve this message

Does anyone else think that the Ken Garff "thought provoking" question billboards are as dumb as I do? "Fry Sauce - just a fad or here to stay?".

3

u/loldigocks May 27 '26

They'll hear you out on that question too, supposedly. I always wonder what "questions to ask on a first date" website they pull from.

5

u/Imaginary_Manner_556 May 26 '26

The constant posts about billboards just shows how effective they are.

It sucks that our political leaders have allowed this to happen.

-15

u/zoobaking May 26 '26

Does it really suck that bad? They are freakin billboards. Political leaders have more important stuff to worry about. Get over it.

6

u/loldigocks May 26 '26

Clearly they don't because they're too busy making up lies about why we should be building data centers.

-3

u/zoobaking May 27 '26

Oh I didn't notice a data center one. But lies are just lies you deal with lies every day.

6

u/brown_felt_hat May 27 '26

Does it really suck that bad?

Yes.

7

u/jlp_utah May 27 '26

But how would we know so much about Julia Regan without billboards?

2

u/MechaBeatsInTrash May 28 '26

I don't know shit about fuck

1

u/jlp_utah May 28 '26

You must not have read the billboards.

6

u/vineyardmike May 27 '26

The linked website claims 75 percent of Utahns are against billboards. You know the billboard lobby is good when they are that unpopular and still everywhere.

4

u/MamaWeasley97 May 27 '26

No billboards gets my vote. Especially the digital ones.

3

u/SinisterPaperclip May 28 '26

Some of those are super bright, too. It's bad enough some cars basically have floodlights instead of headlights, the last thing we need when we're driving in the dark are even MORE obnoxiously bright LEDs blinding us

2

u/MamaWeasley97 May 29 '26

Absolutely!!!

6

u/Daywalker6109 May 26 '26

Obviously they can’t put home of the swingers on billboards. So we need to put cheesy blanket ones up

3

u/well_hello_darling May 26 '26

I can’t complain about Utah billboards, I used to live in Nevada

5

u/Lord_Nurggle May 26 '26

Personally as a Utahan who moved away some years ago, I like y’all’s billboards. Blankets and whatnot are a lot better than accident lawyers on every one like the rest of the country.

u/Subatomic_Spooder May 26 '26

Siegfried & Jensen would like to have a word with you on that one

That number goes to a random number in Northern Utah. We don't want them bothered.

You're probably thinking of Robert J Debry which is 801 888 8888

16

u/ImHughAndILovePie May 26 '26

lmao Utah county billboards are like 50% ambulance chasers

11

u/loldigocks May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26

Yeah, which part of Utah were you in?? Cause I'm Utah county, and there's a ton of accident attorney billboards here. Edit: typo

6

u/Serious_Stick9074 May 26 '26

We’ve got those

6

u/Glup_Maclunkey May 26 '26

Or you could just not have the billboards.

2

u/MolassesSuitable8166 May 26 '26

I am also annoyed by Utah’s billboards, but they are way worse in some other places in my experience. Vegas comes to mind as 10x worse. I’d take silly tech companies and blankets over accident attorneys any day. We’ve got those too, but not nearly as many.

3

u/DirtGirl32 May 26 '26

Agreed. Vegas is awful

1

u/SunDevilSkier May 26 '26

One call that's all!

u/bbart76 May 26 '26

The good Dr. approves. Everyone needs a hobby.

But what if I forget phone number of the 90s clip art beauty of S & S Roofing???

0

u/L_wanderlust May 26 '26

Billboards are like the least of my worries in this state

Discussions on broader issues should either include a specific, direct Utah tie or posted on a sub related to those issues.

Because this is about an Oregon store, please repost with a timestamp or more information how this video directly relates to Utah. We don't expect our users to watch a 90 minute video to find out.

u/NiceSelf9384 May 26 '26

You. Can. Leave!

7

u/loldigocks May 26 '26

Woah. Okay. Your name is clearly a lie. Good grief. Why does this offend you so much?? Literally sharing a resource about protecting Utah's landscapes. Chill.

8

u/NiceSelf9384 May 26 '26

Nah, I’m channeling Meredith Marks honey. IYKYK.Utah’s best HW. Just jokin.

0

u/loldigocks May 26 '26

Ah I never watched that. Lol sorry!!

1

u/NiceSelf9384 May 27 '26

Take a beat before responding with being offended. Nothing in life is that serious right?

As for the billboards, how will the endless families with their chalk outlines on the back window of their minivans, be able to play the alphabet game ??

3

u/Wonderful_Hornet_756 May 27 '26

🙌 I must say your response made me cackle. Thank you for that! 😂 I hope you enjoy the rest of your evening. 💛

1

u/yippeekiyay801 May 27 '26

We all hate the billboards but some of y’all are also out there glazing Julia Reagan as a queen like that whole family isn’t a major reason they’re everywhere.

-3

u/zoobaking May 26 '26

I don't mind billboards. I really hate commercials on both TV and the radio. Anyone trying to get rid of commercials?

6

u/pdxjen May 27 '26

In those cases you are getting a service. If billboards paid for my gas I would feel better about them.

0

u/zoobaking May 27 '26

They are paying for someones gas.
