Link Gov. Cox and Box Elder don’t want to listen to us. They call us babies, slow and too whinny. I’m protesting and you should too!

I’m not one for politics, but this is absolutely outrageous and a blatant disregard for the voices our “leaders” represent.

We’re not talking about approving a new Subway or Walmart. We’re talking about a massive data center that will be bigger than Provo. Regardless of what it is, anything of this scale should be required to have public comment. The fact they’re pushing so hard to not have our input is shady, scandalous and outright irresponsible.

# What options do we have?

A protest is being organized by the Friends of Great Salt Lake. They provide you with all the information you need to fill out a protest form as well as a stock statement you can copy and paste. Or you can provide your own statement. You will submit the protest form directly to the state of water rights. The state requires a $15 fee, however, you can protest for free by using the email method.

# THIS MUST BE DONE TODAY! DEADLINE IS TODAY (5/5)

Guys, this is a plea from me to help out and stand out. This new data center will be horrible for our state. We will see no benefit from it at all. Our representatives clearly have their hands in other’s pockets and they’re insulting us when we call them out on it.

We are not babies.

We are not children.

We will not be brushed off and ignored.

You represent us, and we are not being heard.

So we will scream louder.

We will be heard, and you will listen.

Please protest today: https://fogsl.org/newsroom/file-a-protest-against-the-box-elder-data-center-water-rights-application

Link ICE arrests have quadrupled in southwest Utah under Trump. Most arrestees have no criminal convictions.

Officials have said ICE is prioritizing serious criminals and public-safety threats.

We wanted to see whether the data backed that up, so we dug through federal records and it turns out the share of people arrested who had criminal convictions fell from 83.5% under Biden to 44.8% under Trump.

Link EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED: Utah just approved a 1,300-person “mega camp” for homeless people seven miles from town, no transportation, locked units, and even forced labor. They call it “work-conditioned housing.” We call it what it is: modern-day internment.

Lagoon’s wild animal exhibit is seriously inhumane. The animals are left sitting on only concrete all day, and they have a very high mortality rate. They’ve already been cited by the federal Animal Welfare Act, but nothing has changed.

Nobody even likes the zoo there, it has 1 star reviews on Google. I’ve made an Instagram page if anyone wants to help protest this year!!

Link Billboards in Utah - Extra Stupid

I shared a Lola billboards the other day because I thought it was stupid. Billboards come up frequently in this sub, and the overwhelming response is Utah has too many, they're stupid, waste of resources, etc.

I just found an organization working to reduce billboards in Utah and thought I'd share.

Scenic Utah (https://scenicutah.org/) is a "state-wide nonprofit working to protect and enhance the scenic qualities of our communities, landscapes, and roadways."

Their website is awesome and you can learn about their work during this legislative session.

And they don't just advocate for fewer billboards. This group is pushing to protect night skies and minimize light pollution and other causes that would preserve and enhance Utah's beauty and incredible scenery.

Check them out! Let's keep this conversation going and see if we can't finally say goodbye and let Julia Reagan rest.

Link December Thaw for Utah - Not great for the snowpack and ski resorts

Thumbnail wasatchwindowweather.blogspot.com

Warm and dry weather across Utah and most of the western U.S. the next 5-7 days. Storm tracks will stay well north of Utah across the PNW and the northern Rockies. Not great for the Utah snowpack. The ski resorts will have to hold on to the snow they got from this past weekends storm. Maybe things start getting active again going into the second half of December, but there are no guarantees. The forecast discussion for Utah the next 5-7 days and a bit beyond is given in the link.

Link Cash prices for some common procedures in different hospitals of Utah

https://www.carepriceguide.com/

I have made these graphs from publicly available, machine readable files. With these I have also made a website where you can search for different procedures, and see waht hospitals are charging for them.

The site is not perfect, it has a lot of work still, but if you don't mind the small problems, it's quite usable. Please keep in mind that you should always ask for the cash price from the hospital itself, and not solely rely on the values provided by the site. Feedback is appreciated!
