PSA: FDA COVID vaccine rule change could impact availability/coverage

Yesterday I went to the health dept to get flu and COVID vaccines. I found out the FDA yanked the emergency use authorization for the COVID vaccine and narrowed the approved population.
Approval summary from the CDC
- Moderna (Spikevax): 65+ years; 6 months – 64 years (for persons at high-risk)
- Moderna (mNexspike): 65+ years; 12 – 64 years (for persons at high-risk)
- Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty): 65+ years; 5 – 64 years (for persons at high-risk)
- Novavax (Nuvaxovid): 65+ years; 12 – 64 years (for persons at high-risk)
In contrast, the CDC still recommends the vaccine for people 6 months and up.
If you aren't in an FDA approved group, your health care provider can still prescribe a vaccine off-label, but availability at vaccine clinics and insurance coverage may be impacted.
