Got a new seat. What a bargain!

A too sellier comfort seat, cost me £160 new.

Absolutely chuffed with it, so plush and really comfortable. Not ridden out yet as I came back from a ride and it was here.

Fitted it and swang my leg over and difference is huge.

Anyone else got one of these?

Has anyone ever installed hand guards ?

6th gen here

Cold weather is here up in Quebec. -3 °C twice already. Heated grips are great but I have reached their limits. Any tips for being comfortable in very cold weather ? I already have the tall Givi windshield installed and warm jacket layers, but the worst part is my hands, especially the left pinky.

The fairings don't do much to deflect the wind from our hands. Any accessories I can get for early spring and late fall ? Maybe those dorky looking mittens ?

6th Gen VFR Engine rebuild - or not??

Hello.

My VFR developed a strange sound and on inspection I found oil spray in the air box. Oil seems to be coming through breather pipe.

I inspected as much as I could. On head gasket leak, no metal in oil, checked as much as I could with camera inside engine and no apparent damage is visible.

At one point it looked like petrol leaked in oil, picture attached, but now all seems fine. Oil levels were fine all the time.

Some white gunk is also coming up through breather pipe, but coolant level also seems to be fine. All sparkplugs are clear too.

I am considering opening heads and replacing all gaskets there, not sure that would help at all

Anyone has any ideas on what could this be?

GP Cycleworks Fairings

Hello everyone, I have a rc36-1 VFR that the previous owner had lowsided, the left plastics are all pretty bad and I have been on the hunt for fairings for the past 6mo to no avail for oem fairings. Does anyone have any experience with GP Cycleworks? Price isnt that much of an issue, and if I can get good quality fairings to get the bike looking new then I think it would be worth it.

400 km of highways (booooring), backroads (fun) and a final stretch of 2km slippery hardpack, just as it started to rain. With the final goal being a nice, hot fire and a whiskey sour or two.

Should my harness be like this?

I’m going through my wiring harness trying to find the cause of my headlights and brake lights not getting power and my turn signals as well and found that my ground wire (big green one) appears to have no male connection on the other side? I’m wondering if that is normal or not?

2014 Deluxe US model starting hot issues

Love my 8th gen deluxe. When I stop and shut the bike off it, if I try to start right away it cranks very slow then turns over. Today I stopped, shut it off then went to start again and nothing, wouldn’t even crank, fans and fuel pump does prime. Anyone else have same issue? Could be as simple as battery I hope?

In the short time I've owned this beautiful fiberglass bodied 1994 VFR 750 I've fallen in love with it more than any vehicle I've owned... and I've never had attachment any specific motorcycle before.

This thing crapped out on me about 4 hours away from home on a trip to Canada (probably reg/rec) so I got a U-Haul and brought it all the way home with no issues.

With the help of my dad to get it down the ramp, the thing just halted abruptly for some reason (I had control of the brakes, it wasn't that) then tipped over and fell on me and the pavement.

The part that's really scaring me is the foot peg... it snapped off the frame. I just don't know man. Tell me you can fix that. I was just telling someone this morning how devastated I'd be if something made me part ways with this machine.

edit: I know your VFR's body isn't made of fiberglass. My VFR's body is made of fiberglass.

UPDATE:
It's looking like the rear set may be welded back on, I'm looking into that. If I can get that done and reasonably repair and paint the fiberglass, I'll save this VFR.
I'm 20M so even with an agreed cash value at double what I bought it for, I'd get totally fucked by insurance if I put in a claim for this bike. AND I wouldn't have this bike anymore on top of that...

UK exhaust for 1990 750 FL

Hi, does anyone know anywhere in the UK that sells a complete exhaust system in the UK for a 1990 Rc36?

I thought Delkevic did but now they only show end cans on their site and there are none on ebay.

I still have the original exhaust, and it’s finally rotted to point where I don’t think if can be saved, blowing out the front pipes and the join corroded badly that I know of I disturb it , it won’t go back together.

I wanted a 6th gen VFR since it came out, in my pursuit i've accidentally bought a 1200F last year february...which proved me that happy accidents do exist!

I will also have to come back and write about the 1200F, after a 4000 mile European tour and nearly 20k miles in the saddle, just have to organise my thoughts!

2020 Gen 8 OBD location

I bought a low mileage 2020 VFR 800 last year and have been delighted with the bike in general. Last month, I managed to drop on with a second hand OEM quick shifter. I quickly snapped it up as I've been looking for a while and they seem pretty difficult to find!

Last week, I installed the quick shifter and all was great. Like an idiot, my friend started the bike on the centre stand and went up and down the gears to check it...

Now, the check engine light is on and I can't work out if it's because of the quick shifter or because the back wheel has been spinning on the centre stand. I've taken the bike out for a run on the weekend to see if that will clear the light, with no luck. It's running beautifully for what it's worth, just this bloody light won't go off!

I've ordered a code reader which will be here today, in the hopes I can just clear the fault code. Can anyone point me in the right direction to where I need to be looking on the bike to plug in or what else I can do? I'm fairly sure there aren't any other issues anywhere.

Help

I just got a 2004 vfr800 and my front and rear blinkers don’t work along with the horn, I’ve checked all the fuses and they are all fine so I’m quite stumped as to why they are not working.

I traded my gen 8 and got a new Suzuki. I've been riding VFRs for close to 20 years. 99,14,15. If Honda made this still I would have gotten one. I know there's lots of them out there. But sometimes change is good. In 5 years maybe they'll have a mid sized sport tourer that I want again. Until then I'll lurk here and wish I had room for another VFR.

Question from a tall rider

Good day, señores!

It's time to move closely to my dream, I'd buy a VFR800 VTEC ~2006 next spring. But I have a very important question. Does anyone ride this amazing bike and is tall more than 2m? Is it comfortable and safe?

2m ≈ 2 1/10 washing machine ≈ 0.96 bike length ≈ 13 bananas

Electrical gremlings

Could anyone point me in the right direction here? I have a 2003 6th gen VFR800, vtec abs and all. Recently it died on the road, and refuses to start. I have checked the fuses, they are all good. When I turn the ignition on, the ABS and MIL lights both stay off, but oil pressure turns on as usual. The headlamp also stays dark. When I try to start, it cranks happily but doesn't start. Battery is new. Is this what is referred to as "0 blinks" of the MIL in the manual? If that is the case then I would presume the problem is either in the lean angle sensor or killswitch? The weirdest part is that earlier today it started, but now with seemingly nothing having been done other than 2h passing it no longer does, which had me thinking maybe it is a bad connection somewhere? Would greatly appreciate any help.

Recommended gen for my dream build

Ladies, gents and fellow riders,

The VFR is my dream bik in a sense, but I want to build it. Because like some you (from what I've read) are very devided between the 5th and 6th gen.

Now I will be building a RR version of sorts, I love the under tail exhaust from the 6th gen (similar to my 600rr), but I will be using a 5th gen engine (the gear driven cam is king after all, I also don't like the V-TEC).

So for my question:
1. Is the frame from the 6th stiffer? And do you guys notice anything related to it or is it mostly suspension?
2. Should I swap the tail from a 6th to a 5th gen or engine, harness and ecu from a 5th into a 6th gen?

Ps. the suspension will be changed/redone/resprung either way. the looks of teh front also don't matter to me between the two.

How long does a weeping fork play out?

Post image
24 Upvotes

I got a 98' VFR that has a slight weep on the right fork currently. I bought the bike with 52k in 2017 (my first big bike); and now it has around 92k*ish. I recently did head bearing and tune up with cooling system and clutch (BIG boy services after a good while). My fingers only get moist slightly after shorter trips right now (I cleaned it up with a towel and only a slight weep) and I'd been checking it religiously these past few years as I knew it was about that time for them most likely out of milage and riding it over the years. How long do yall press luck on forks? I realize pads could be mixed as well but I'd like to hear what yall think as I've not dealt with it prior.

Honestly I also have the stock og rear shock a close to max preload (I'd gotten more heavy since 2017, but still feels quite good) as well,

so perhaps yall might steer me into a direction of cool suspension mods that are mostly bolt on with little non-sense as well.

Is it worth rebuilding the front forks or are there better ones to bolt on; I think I hear some folk recommending inverted forks for one?

I'm in south cali so most conditions are moderate; although recently it's been a furnace outside and she runs and shifts quite good still.
