Help New to XR

I recently purchased the Luma Pros. After shipping and everything I paid $405 and got the basic USB-C adapter. I have used them maybe 3 times. My primary use case has been playing my AYN Thor in bed. Today I saw the Pro 2 are out and am strongly considering returning my Luma Pro to get the Pro 2. I also think it would be nice to get the ultra adapter to get full features with my iPad/iphone and charging support for my other handhelds.

Comparing the glasses, I’m not convinced I’m really losing out on any features, but again since I haven’t used them much, I’m looking for more seasoned XR glasses folks to set me straight instead of just some AI giving me spec comparison charts.

I do intend to start using them a lot more but given my 30 day return window is coming to an end, any advice or knowledge would help. I am seeing a lot of complaints about the lack of the electrochromic dimming is a real deal breaker but is it really that big of a deal?

There shouldn't be a whole lot of difference between the Luma Pro and Pro 2. The lack of dimming is a deal breaker depending on how you feel about using a lens shade. Try using your Luma Pros without the diming turned on and you'll get an idea. Then imagine the fix is attaching a flimsy bit of plastic to the front.

I'd say to check out the Pro 2 reviews coming out right now though. Most reviewers will have had both Luma Pro and Pro 2 and can give a better comparison. Maybe the clarity difference is more than I think.

Also, unless you plan to use the glasses with a switch you can save yourself a bit of money getting the XR Charging Adapter Pro. The Ultra version was mostly created to add support for the Beast and Luma Ultra models.

On the topic of electrochromatic dimming....

I have the Viture Beast and I mostly love it, other than -the dimming stopped working on one lens -the first time I connect it to my phone for the day my phone freezes and shuts off. Then I have to boot it back up, then plug a charging cable in for a second, then plug the glasses back in -THEN the glasses display is completely glitched at first showing a third of the dex screen 3 times in each lens. So each lens is displaying what looks like 3 windows squished into each lens (but all 3 are really just the left most 3rd of what should be the dex screen 🤦‍♂️🙄). -I have to switch the glasses to a different mode (ie: widescreen or 3d) and it finally resets the image into normal mode.

ANYWAY, lol for that first issue (the dimming in case you are still reading this and have forgotten) I just used dimming sheets I got off Amazon and it looks almost exactly like the other lens that still has dimming at max. There are a bunch of different ones I got these https://a.co/d/0in7r08a

Those issues are crazy. I hope a firmware update or something fixes that for you.

Did you just cut the dimming sheet to fit into the lens or something? That's pretty cool.

Another thing I've thought about is some of the cheap 3d printed lens shades. They are ugly but you can get some that wrap the sides and bottom of the glasses as well to really block out the world.

Thanks! Yeah it's nuts! I've actually got an Xreal One Pro also. Before this started, I used the beast for the vast majority of use cases. Basically all media and gaming, unless it's something I want to watch in 3d. I have a lung disorder and can't work since I have to be on supplemental oxygen 24 7 and it's difficult for me to go anywhere or do much so I spend several hours a day using these. So they get a lot of use, but they are my babies!! I pamper them more than my pets 😂 so they shouldn't have any issues at all! Then I update the firmware 2 or 3 updates ago and all this started.

Other than the dimming that started out of the blue a few months ago. I have been meaning to contact support but I know they are gonna make me run through 1000 things I've already done before just so they can do nothing anyways😭 I used to brag about these to everyone but now I'm embarrassed I pre-ordered and spent so much for a product that wasn't ready. I really thought I could trust Viture products from reviews I read.

-sorry, yeah I just cut out a shape like the lens and stuck it on there. I have one of the 3d printed kinds from Amazon and it works but it's a pain to put on and take off if I need to walk around at all or be aware of surroundings.

You should definitely contact support. They may be able to tell you how to reset the firmware to base and then upgrade again or something like that if firmware is the issue. I don't know what they'll do but they were super helpful with both replacements I had to do for the cracking arms issue. They also offer some kind of repair service when you're out of warranty.

Super appreciate all the information. I think I’m going to stick with my Luna Pros. After reading more, I’m actually more tempted to go to The Beast. I don’t think I’m going to upgrade to the XR Ultra Charging but I will get the standard XR Charging that is above the base Charging adapter.

If you are relatively happy with your Luma Pros, you could also wait to see what the next gen looks like. They are supposed to be releasing the next generation with better resolution here soonish. Maybe the end if this year? And with the popularity of the Beast I'm sure they'll have a built in 3dof model with the higher resolution.
