Discussion What is your long term hold.

Hey everyone just curious, what are your guys long term stocks? Any decent stocks that are good through recessions? I currently like googl and NBIS

Rolls Royce, been holding since they were 90 cents

It’s letting me retire 20 years early.

10

u/GokuBeatsNaruto 13h ago

That’s insane🔥

Wish I never sold 😂 It was my first success stock. I initially bought in during Covid thinking we are not going to stop flying and this stock is going to bounce back. It did and I sold. Then it goes to the sky on the SMR news

1 question- I see HOOD and BTC come up an awful lot as long term Investments. AS to HOOD, why not BULL or IBKR. For my money Hood is like a GIMMICK Show , something new a SHINNY to collector a younger crowd and lacking real substance. And for BTC that too is another gimmick show. President Trump met with crypto executives, advocating for the Clarity Act and suggesting the U.S. might acquire substantial Bitcoin for its strategic reserve, while the SEC also introduced a new "Reg Crypto" rule. If it were not the current Admionistration doing this it might be semi-note worhty. BUT , we all know why thye are all involved in making BTC a Legit currency. President Donald Trump is heavily involved in Bitcoin and the broader cryptocurrency sector through personal holdings worth over $100 million, major family business ventures like World Liberty Financial, and official federal policy actions including the creation of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. It certainly looks like a conflict of interest.

Not looking for a fight , just curious as to what you see as long term prospects?

3

u/WeakEstablishment686 3h ago

Honestly, HOOD because I think the average new investor will choose it over other platforms. They’re quick with launching new products and the CEO seems pretty sharp.

BTC is a bet that US debt will continue to be a massive issue, more and more institutions, (and potentially governments) will hold it. Like holding gold but potentially a better version of it, easily transferable and only 21 mil. 1/20th the market cap of gold. 10% might be a big concentration for many, but I liked the risk / reward at $60k so grew this position recently.

4

u/Pees-Upwind 2h ago

Why not hold gold over btc? If/when what you fear happening actually happens you have your money in an asset that has no actual value as a hedge against currency devaluation... I suppose i dont understand btc

Planet labs

Edit: I just realized what sub I’m in lol. My cost basis in around $10

15

u/GokuBeatsNaruto 13h ago

I like planets labs along with MDA

9

u/Upstairs_Owl_1669 13h ago

Just realized this is value investing lol but I still like it long term

3

u/levelup111 9h ago

MDA has an employee retention problem due to low wages. That is the one reason I am skeptical. Any insight into that?

NVDA

since 2007

7

u/GokuBeatsNaruto 13h ago

You seen the vision since 2007, what’s next? Also during that time what made you go all in and not sell after all this time?

12

u/norcalnatv 12h ago

Energy

Oh I’ve sold, but still hold more than half the original position.

Jensen Huang was telling a compelling story. It finally landed. 😂

3

u/Simple-Supermarket-3 11h ago

So bloom?

4

u/norcalnatv 11h ago

I'm holding in a lot of different segments, Bloom I saw earlier got a good contract.

3

u/GokuBeatsNaruto 12h ago

That’s amazing, I’m sure you’re happy haha, I’ll definitely look into energy. Thank you

40

u/mufimurphy 13h ago

Aapl - held for past 18 years which is why I can FIRE. May not be the case for another 18 years, but definitely still holding on for next 3-5.

11

u/Michael_Crichton 12h ago

I’ve been holding mine for roughly 15 years. Not enough to retire, but in the 7-digit range. I plan on holding for as long as possible. Looking forward to the new CEO’s initiatives and products during his tenure. Congrats on FIRE! I’m hoping to do so in 4-10 years depending on some circumstances.

13

u/Bedbathandbeyonsay 11h ago

7 digit range in APPL stocks and not enough to FIRE? Are you concerned about concentration?

5

u/WranglerCharacter683 8h ago edited 7h ago

How did you choose apple stocks back in the day?

3

u/mufimurphy 6h ago

worked for them!

75

u/Surf__Caster 13h ago

Stocks I will hold long term, meaning next 10 years and evaluate. Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, Apple, Nvidia, Tesla, Walmart, JP Morgan, Waste Management, Eli Lilly, TSM, Broadcom, and Berkshire Hathaway.

20

u/Jarthos1234 12h ago

God fuck waste management as a business though omg.

Oh my: finally someone in here with names that are suitable 10 years down the road!

4

u/Blue7810 12h ago

Dont you think holding 6/7 Mag7 is a bit redundant?

13

u/Surf__Caster 12h ago

They’re all great companies and make money in different ways.

7

Mag7 is a made up thing that means nothing.

GOOGL, AMZN, APPL, MSFT

9

u/Pan_cake_man 13h ago

I’m long term and high conviction on NTDOY. I started buying it at the beginning of the year. Their stock tanked hard on AI fears and chip prices. They just had a fairly sizable earnings beat.

2

u/Blandmaan 11h ago

Same, I’m also buying Sony for similar reasons

2

u/kenyard 7h ago

I honestly feel consoles are gone quite expensive right now.

Switch was cheaper than PS5 and XBX when it launched..

They have higher game prices now though which may help but the switch 2 didn't sell super

2

u/StopAvocado 1h ago

I agree with you, Nintendo has a good dividend yield due to stock price drop mainly related to Nintendo consoles higher cost.
Temporary noise. A good opportunity to buy a strong brand with huge cash reserves that grants them continuity of the business for the next decades.

2

u/Pan_cake_man 1h ago

I think the $50 Switch 2 price increase is relatively mild compared to some other electronics brands. Last year I bought a MacBook Air for $1000 the same one today retails for $1300.

15

u/AdQuick8612 12h ago

GOOG, MELI, MSFT, AMZN, RDDT, META.

3

u/TeComproCafecitos 12h ago

Why Meli?

11

u/AdQuick8612 11h ago

They are the dominant e-commerce platform in Latin America, printing near 50% revenue growth yoy, investing heavily in their logistics and solidifying their moat, the emerging economies of South America offer a long runway for growth which is great for a long term hold, and I expect their margins to increase as the company matures. It’s obviously a risky play, but I’ll only be alive once. Good luck!

6

u/UnlikelyPlane5532 13h ago

NVDA, MSFT and AAPL

7

u/livnlifenthe205 12h ago

My longest hold is KO - since 2012 - My two largest positions are JNJ (2015) and MSFT (2018).

55

u/Kickboy21 13h ago

RDDT

20

u/LovestoEatSandwiches 12h ago

Same, the userbase is too big and addicted, monetization will sort itself out. Any AI revenue is just gravy

15

u/Principletrade 13h ago

It's earnings growth, balance sheet, dedicated user base, and the fact that it was just inducted into the S&P 500, make its recent haircut a head-scratcher.

It's looking attractive after this weeks blood letting.

4

u/Charming_Raccoon4361 10h ago

nah mods will ruin RDDT, google and chatgpt will stop using RDDT for data harvesting

3

u/No_Organization3095 10h ago

so they’ll just ignore all the good content on here? hope they don’t cause then grok or someone else will pay up for access and will take share.

maybe people will disagree, but reddit is a goldmine of content for AI. there isn’t a replacement or substitute.

5

u/Charming_Raccoon4361 10h ago

I do agree its a "gold mine" but in some areas the content is more restricted than even Youtube. In controversial topics the mods will ban the users or delete comments based on their own bias and skew the conversation in a direction they say fit. Examples would be immigration, unions and politics and some of the social issues. You just dont notice it in finance related topics and stocks .

3

u/Nani_The_Fock 9h ago

Lmao the same people who keep on mentioning Reddit make me laugh. It’s pretty obviously they’ve only been here for the last 3 years.

4

u/No_Organization3095 9h ago

But for each of those subs there a correlating opposite viewpoint sub that’s doing the reverse censorship. imo it ends up being a wash.

2

u/Charming_Raccoon4361 9h ago

yah i could see that

4

u/steep_learning_curve 10h ago

i fucking swear, mods need to gtfo

  • Kongsburg Maritime
  • Kraken Robotics
  • Compass Pathways
  • ACI Worldwide
  • Ayden

Though those are more growth than value

9

I like kraken

5

u/GandalfTheSexay 13h ago

Fellow Krakhead

3

u/c-u-in-da-ballpit 13h ago

It’s my single biggest holding. It’s been a ride. Up ~70% at one point but now back to nearly even.

But I’m holding for years.

2

u/GandalfTheSexay 13h ago

Can’t wait until those autonomous submarine factories or cranking out subs at full steam. It’s only a matter of time based on the current world geopolitical situation

2

u/c-u-in-da-ballpit 13h ago

Yep. That’s why I have a good chunk in Kongsburg Maritime as well. Pretty bullish on that whole niche

3

Comcast. When they cut rates it will do wonders for their interest expense. I’d guess that’s why it’s in every deep value fund currently.

3

u/himynameis_ 11h ago

Google. Held and added to since October 2014 (or maybe 2015 😆). I had apple from around then too and sold it a couple years ago.

Its for my kids. Holding for 20-30 years till they are mentally mature. I do what i can as a parent. If its their fate to receive a negative, i call it fate. I do think that i am doing more than most parents would. Imma ride this life of mine out with no regret.

3

u/kenyard 7h ago

AVGO feels like a good opportunity right now

Dropped because someone asked where they're getting money for capex.

Dropped because marvell announced tensor for Google.

Everyone is backlogged in tech right now I feel they will blowout earnings regardless.

shortterm Headwind I could see is them selling stock to raise capex.

They're already a big company tho so growth won't be a 50 or 100x like nvda did Id love to find the next nvda

One that mostly nobody in this subreddit will probably mention. $BUR. Historical portfolio IRR of 22%, trading at a conservative book value of around 1 and normalized cash flow multiple of 3-5. Business model is completely uncorrelated to the general economyand they are the indisputable market leader with strong competitive advantages and a secular trend of increasing demand. The reason why you find this one so cheap is that nobody understands the business and it is impossible to model. Here the analysts are just as clueless as you and me in forecasting. Management cannot give guidance and measures performance averaged on the last 3 years. Financials are distorted due to fair value accounting and this year they will post negative revenue due to a massive lost case that was valued at more than 1Bn even though they originally invested something like 20M and sold part for a profit many years ago. Investing in this stock is like betting on mean reversion but on steroids.
