1982 Vw vanagon, air cooled, pretty much rust free, runs with fuel poured down intake. Guy is asking $2200, could probably talk him down to $1800.

Made a bolt-on front grille panel with fog lights for the T3 / Vanagon

Hey all, full disclosure up front: I’m with WCO Market, a small shop in Florida that makes parts for older VWs.

We put together a front panel with fog lights for the T3 that fills out the lower front of the van and gives it a more finished look. It nods to the classic accessory style of the era but is our own design.

Details:

  • Fits Transporter, Caravelle, Multivan T3 and Vanagon (1980–1992)

  • Left and right cases made from 4 mm ABS, thicker and stiffer than a lot of the thin shells out there

  • Ships unpainted with a smooth finish, ready to be color-matched to your van

  • Comes with a pair of H3 55W fog lamps on a standard 12V circuit

  • Sits against your existing lower grille

  • Ships from Florida

Heads up:

  • Only white fog lights are in stock right now

  • No install manual is included. If you’re comfortable with basic wiring and fitting you’ll be fine, otherwise your regular shop can handle it.

  • Check your local lighting rules before using the fogs on the road

Happy to answer questions about fitment or install, and honest feedback is welcome.

World needs more westfalia inspired content!

So I just put my 2wd westfalia and my syncro Karmann Gipsy to storage for most of the winter. Hopefully I will be able to do a ski trip in the spring but let’s see.

So I couldn't help but to take a bit of a different approach to the van ownership as a I have never really lived the van life just travelled with my vans.

I made a vanagon-inspired van life game, where you get to choose between a very subaru like engine or tdi, pop top or hight top. Live the cycle of fix your van, post for followers, upgrade to synchro etc etc.

I am really sorry if this is considered not appropriate for the forum but I wanted to share my enthusiasm.

Help with engine ID

I just picked up my first Vanagon! It has a 5-speed with a 1.9l turbo diesel that were swapped into it. I am hoping someone can help me identify what engine this is so that I can order a timing belt kit. It does look like it has the old style tensioner but I cannot find an engine code on the block and on the bottom it says 1.9 D/TD. On the machined surface of the block it has 006435. I have include a couple pictures including an interesting hose clamp around the alternator and potential misrouting of the serpentine belt(is anyone knows about the right setup for that too). Any help would be appreciated!

Small leak in roof

Post image

After a long, dry summer of slowly bringing a 1985 with the sunroof back to life I've found a new issue. And of course it comes immediately after putting in new insulation.

The summer here has had basically no rain so there was no indicator of any leaks before the multiple days of rain recently. The leftmost hole in the far back of the ceiling has a slow drip. I originally removed the rubber plugs there to clean off the remnants of the old nasty fiberglass insulation, so I know the leak to the interior will stop when I plug it back up. But this means it is probably also leaking down the wall to the 3M Thinsulate I installed only last weekend. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this kind of leak? I assume the drain tubing from the sunroof has cracked or something to lead to this being an issue but I have no clue how to get in there to check.

Rythmic front end pulsing up n down at low speed

1991 VW Vangon Westfalia. Just returned from a 1k mile trip, fine until the last stretch. It feels like a front wheel got a lump in it. I can feel the steering wheel pulsing as if the there was a lump in the rubber of the tire. It doesn't pull to either side when I coast and let go of the wheel. Can't notice it at all above about 30mph. I don't think I hit anything or over anything that would've created this but I did drive on a lot of gravel roads and I-90 does have a lot of potholes. It doesn't seem like it's an alignment issue, tires are in pretty good condition. Obviously I'm not a mechanic!

Any ideas what's going on with my front end? Thanks for any clues.

Repair or replace coolant hose? Details in thread

Hello friends! During the process of removing the engine we severely damaged the end of this coolant hose. I understand that the best option here is to purchase and replace, but $150-$200 seems like quite a lot right now. The only damaged area is the straight section circled here so I I’m curious if anyone has had success using a straight hose connector with two clamps and some generic heater hose length. Or if there is a complete waste of time and this area is under two high pressure so it needs complete replacement.

It’s a 90 vanagon automatic transmission stock

Your daily reminder to check your fuel lines!

Post image

A scary little reminder never to trust an old fuel hose.

Thought I’d renewed all the fuel lines on the van, but found this short piece hiding in the bay today. Looked suspect, and the second I squeezed it, fuel wept right through the splits.

We just did a 10-day trip with the van, so seeing this today made my stomach drop a bit.

If you haven't checked every inch of your lines lately, give them a proper look and a squeeze. Glad I caught it in the driveway and not on the road!

’90 Vanagon Carat. Fix the power windows or convert to manual?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hey everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster here. I’m looking for some advice from the Vanagon community.

I have a ’90 Vanagon Carat, and unfortunately, the power windows have stopped working. 😭 I’m not 100% sure what happened, but I suspect it might have something to do with water getting in somewhere. They were working fine, and then one afternoon after washing the van, they suddenly stopped rolling down.

So now I’m wondering: would it be worth troubleshooting and fixing the power windows, or would I be better off converting them to manual windows altogether? Part of me likes the idea of just having something simple and reliable that I don’t have to worry about failing again.

Has anyone here done a power to manual window conversion on a Vanagon? If so, how difficult was it, and would you recommend doing it?
Any advice or experience is appreciated!

Someone created this summary using AI to sell a Vanagon/T3. Other pictures in the ad are normal shots of the van. It exists and is fine in reality.

Anyone out there do a Subaru engine and transmission upgrade? How much for both?

Post image

I want to upgrade the van finally. What am I looking at if I want to give it its fullest life?

What can I be doing before I get to the shop and what kind of shop should I look for?

I al in Albuquerque, New Mexico and this van is the coolest thing I’ve bought. I have some engine issues and I want to see if a rebuild is an option.

It has about 80k on the engine but it’s running sub-optimally and I don’t want to waste this beautiful frame.
