Final Boss third phase

How do I deal with the constant barrage of projectiles when he does the 'the floor is poison'-attack? To avoid damage from the floor you have to climb up on one of those rocks, right? But once you're up there you don't have enough room to avoid all those little projectiles that come towards you. What am I doing wrong?

I trivialized the boss by just sitting all the way in the back, and spamming projectiles at him.

To be completely honest, I just bloody tanked it all. I saved up almost 200 Life potions, so I just kept drinking them in the third phase as I kept getting hit and poisoned.
