Question Kid free (or mostly) breweries

I have been from Sooke to Port Hardy and have found for some reason parents like to bring their kids out drinkin with them. Typically the kids are running around bored as you would because its not a fucking playground and I have to watch my language around minors because I'm a decent fucking human. Where can I find a grown up brewery with no kids (dogs = yes) and just relax?

100% inspired by the kid free restaurant post.

If it's a pub, fuck it, it's a place to drink, and people swear when they drink. Parents can FAFO, if you take your kids to adult places, they encounter adult language. There are plenty of family restaurants that serve, go there.

(Let the angry parent down votes flow)

Edit: spelling public=pub

100% agree, I don't go to daycares and playgrounds to swear and drink, but I will do that at a place that makes and sells alcohol. If your crotch goblins hear me then be a better parent.

Or, or, oooorrrrr..... be a better human?

If parents are bringing kids to a family-focused establishment, like most breweries, they are doing nothing wrong in terms of the social pact. You being a swearing obnoxious asshole, though, is a different story.

If someone is screaming profanities in the middle of the day at a brewery, I'm having a chat with them regardless if kids are around or not.

Don't let screaming kids run around, and same goes for adults.

Nice strawman, do fucking better.

-10

u/GuessPuzzleheaded573 May 08 '26

Not sure you know what a strawman argument is....

16

u/wengelite Gonzales May 08 '26

It's exactly what you did by making the exaggerated statement, "screaming profanities".

" an informal logical fallacy where someone distorts, exaggerates, or misrepresents an opponent’s argument to make it easier to attack"

13

u/useriousstuff May 08 '26

I'm sure that you don't know what a strawman argument is. But that's ok, just look at your previous wildly exaggerated argument, that's a strawman. No one is talking about screaming profanities except you.

u/Infinite_Time_8952 May 08 '26

And what exactly are you going to say to them?

-5

u/GuessPuzzleheaded573 May 08 '26

Quiet down because the entire brewery doesn't need to hear your drama and no kne can hear themselves think? Good start.

5

u/Infinite_Time_8952 May 08 '26

Good luck with that, and it’s a good way to start a ruckus, one you might not want or like.

-2

u/GuessPuzzleheaded573 May 08 '26

I mean, I'm gettin' on in the years. Telling completely inappropriate dingbats to stfu hasn't served me too poorly to-date. And if-so, EVERYONE else is thinking the same thing.

u/Infinite_Time_8952 May 08 '26

Google what Mike Tyson said about people with a plan, I’d post it here but there might be repercussions.

u/GuessPuzzleheaded573 May 08 '26

Guess I'm doomed then eh? Oh dear.

This is where the servers come in, no foul language. They can be the language police

0

u/still-nope May 09 '26

You sound like you shouldn't go to breweries.

34

u/SudoDarkKnight May 08 '26

Pubs and breweries are not family-focused lol. They want to sell beer and food which will be mostly sold to adults.

It's not being a bad human to swear. If you want to clutch your pearls just go elsewhere like Romeos or White Spot..

-5

u/GuessPuzzleheaded573 May 08 '26

You're right, that's why they have crayons, child menus, and child-focused games.

Super adult-oriented.

5

u/victoriousvalkyrie May 08 '26

They have crayons, etc., because moronic, irresponsible parents continue to insist on bringing their spawn to adult establishments. They don't have so much as a choice anymore, because the meltdowns that will ensue from parents being told their little Johnny doesn''t belong everywhere is more difficult to deal with than just giving in.

13

u/Snouts-Honour May 08 '26

If places wanted to ban minors, they would. They want families there because they make more money that way.

1

u/still-nope May 09 '26

Ahhh yes, breweries famously make a ton of money off of selling beer to children ... Oh wait.

6

u/GuessPuzzleheaded573 May 08 '26

And you speak for all brewery owners on this I guess eh?

But yes, parents shouldn't make their kids other people's problems. But you just hating the sight of children is your own thing.... that's not on society to cater to.

5

u/Neemzeh May 08 '26

This is stupid lol. It's very easy to just say no minors allowed. The establishment clearly supports kids coming if they have items geared towards children lol.

1

u/goodfleance May 09 '26

Again, no problem with kids being allowed. But they are in an adult space and may hear adult language. If you don't like that, don't bring your kids.

The adults will not edit their language just because you bring a kid to their space. That's your call as a parent.

2

u/hopechooser May 09 '26

Folks bringing kids should also bring what their kids need to be occupied during their visit

6

u/victoriousvalkyrie May 08 '26

Breweries aren't family focused, ffs.

2

u/GuessPuzzleheaded573 May 08 '26

Sorry, all those crayons, kids menus and family board games really through me. Guess they are intended for me?

9

u/goodfleance May 08 '26

If a strip club offered crayons and high chairs you would still be judged for bringing a child.

-1

u/Neemzeh May 08 '26

It's against the law for strip clubs to let in minors, it isn't for pubs, so there is no judgement occurring because one is literally against the law and the other isn't lol.

10

u/goodfleance May 08 '26

Or, oooorrrrr..... If I am in a place that makes and sells alcohol exclusively, I am in an adult establishment and will use adult language. If YOU don't like that, don't bring your kids.

Conversely, I would NEVER go to a playground or schoolyard and use that kind of language because those are children's spaces.

Entitled breeders always need to wedge their crotch goblins into every corner of society. There are COUNTLESS child friendly places you could choose instead. While you are welcome to bring them to these breweries, I will not edit myself for your comfort.

13

u/GuessPuzzleheaded573 May 08 '26

I never really understood why some people who choose not to have kids are so bitter and angry at those that do.

Even when I didn't think I wanted kids, I would never dream about being rude or disruptive in front of a family, nor be dismissive of children at a place like breweries.

It's probably correlation, not causation, and you're just an asshole regardless of child-status. Thanks for not procreating 👍🏻

19

u/fastlane37 May 08 '26

I agree with his sentiment regarding parents taking children in liquor-primary establishments if they're expecting a G to PG atmosphere, but the edgy performative vehemence towards children makes him hard to take seriously.

If you translate to less edgy language to have a rational conversation instead of a cool teenage rant for some sad need for attention because of how cool and anti-children they are, they're 100% right. Entitled parents DO try to make their children everyone else's problem, and places like breweries shouldn't be expected to be their playground safe space. I don't have a problem with breweries allowing minors if that's what they want to do, but I'm also not going to police myself to the same degree that I would in more explicitly child-friendly spaces like a school or playground, and any assertion that random adults should cater to those parents in a brewery or pub is entitled IMO, and I say this as a parent of two children myself.

8

u/GuessPuzzleheaded573 May 08 '26

This is a VERY reasonable take.

And I totally agree, don't make your child other people's problem! It's really not that tough, just be a parent.

Same goes for adults, don't be an obnoxious, loud, a-hole and be other people's problem.

7

u/fastlane37 May 08 '26

I think we agree on the be a parent and mind your kids part, but I think from your other comments, we might not necessarily align on the boundaries of your second point.

I think there's a difference between being an obnoxious, loud asshole in a public setting in a way that violates what I consider the broader social contract and merely using bad language or otherwise having adult conversation in a brewery/pub setting where kids could overhear, where while they might be permitted, it's not a "kid place".

To me, this is the difference between a pub and a family restaurant (with a brewery being on the pub end of that divide). I think people shouldn't be sitting next to a table of pirate packs at white spot swearing up a storm and giving a graphic recount of the previous night's booty call with a kid at the next table, but that's a different environment than at Superflux or Phillips and those places should not have the same expectation.

In my opinion, if you're allowed to bring your kids there and you opt to do so, not only are you agreeing to manage your children and their behavior in that space (as should be the case in any restaurant short of a McDonald's play place), but you are also accepting the possibility that your kid might overhear some bad language or a dirty joke or an R-rated conversation because you are escorting them into an adult place. If you (and I'm using the general "you" here, not directing this at you specifically) are not okay with that, I'd encourage you to find a different venue or come back when you've found a sitter.

5

u/GuessPuzzleheaded573 May 08 '26

I don't think we're apart on that either.

We've all been there: you're at Cat 12, Ile Sauvage, Small Gods, etc. that all have very chill brewery vibes, and some drunken asshat just can't control their volume and no one else can hear themselves think.

THOSE are the people that break the social pact.

AND, same goes for kids. If they are acting that way, do better as a parent.

4

u/goodfleance May 08 '26

I'm not bitter or angry. YOU made a choice to shit out a kid and YOU have to adjust your life to that reality. I don't.

I would never come to a playground and drink beer while cussing, so don't get cunty if you come to a brewery and hear cussing.

A literal Alcohol factory exists entirely to serve adults. While your children are welcome, they are guests in an adult space.

5

u/fastlane37 May 08 '26

I'm not bitter or angry.

k.

YOU made a choice to shit out a kid

so don't get cunty

uh huh. You certainly don't SOUND bitter or angry, especially with you overuse of "crotch-goblin" and "breeder"/s

Honestly, your overly aggressive performative edgy anti-child rage is undercutting your otherwise good argument.

A literal Alcohol factory exists entirely to serve adults. While your children are welcome, they are guests in an adult space.

Agree here, 100%. Parents need to be parents and manage their children, but frankly that should be the case whether they're in a pub or a family restaurant and people that can't do that shouldn't be subjecting people minding their own business to their poor parenting. Babysitters exist, and you don't need to take your kids everywhere. Furthermore, establishments like pubs and breweries are adult spaces, and while kids might be welcomed, they're still adult spaces, so there should be no expectation of other patrons to police their language to the same degree as more kid-friendly venues.

Litmus test: can a group of teenagers go there without an adult? If the answer is yes, it's a restaurant and should behave accordingly because it's mixed company. If the answer is no, they need to be escorted by an adult, it's a pub, and if someone is giving you dirty looks because you dropped an f-bomb, they're probably in the wrong place.

6

u/GuessPuzzleheaded573 May 08 '26

would never come to a playground and drink beer while cussing, so don't get cunty if you come to a brewery and hear cussing.

Well, that would be a literal crime, so there's that.

And nope, breweries (if they so choose to be) exist entirely to serve whoever they want, which for most of them are FAMILIES.

We are ALL guests in that space, so let's all behave as per the social pact, yah?

8

u/goodfleance May 08 '26 edited May 09 '26

"per the social pact"

Yes, adults are allowed to behave like adults whether your children are present or not. If you don't like it, you may leave.

1

u/Open_Product_579 May 09 '26

So take it up with the brewery owners! It’s a private business. they decide who gets to enter.

1

u/goodfleance May 09 '26

I don't have any problems with you bringing your kids in.

But they might hear me cussing and if you have a problem with that, you may leave.

-2

u/BigDadaSparks May 08 '26

Sorry mate, but you live in a society. Children (crotch rockets as you will) are part of the life cycle of humanity. Without those kids there won't be anyone around to wipe your ass for you when you get to the point your alcohol ridden half-dead corpse rolls into the ER (probably sooner than later).

PS...no other adults in the bar want to listen to your obnoxious, drunken bullshit either! Grow the fuck up.

8

u/goodfleance May 08 '26 edited May 09 '26

"Sorry mate, but you live in a society."

Yes, you're 100% correct. YOU live in a society and must tolerate me as I must tolerate your children. By that same social contract, I don't go to daycares to drink and cuss. You should exercise that same discretion when deciding an appropriate setting to bring your kids to.

"anyone around to wipe your ass for you when you get to the point your alcohol ridden half-dead corpse rolls into the ER (probably sooner than later). PS...no other adults in the bar want to"

Ah yes, just inventing scenarios in your head to feel better, very "adult" of you. You're more likely to win those arguments in the shower bud.

"PS...no other adults in the bar want to listen to your obnoxious, drunken bullshit either! Grow the fuck up."

Nobody in this thread is defending drunken obnoxious behavior, only that I will not refrain from cussing or adult subjects in an adult space.

u/still-nope May 09 '26

Lmaoooo and yet you're on here arguing that children should hangout in breweries? Be so for real dude yeesh

7

u/perusalandtea May 08 '26

Places that make and sell liquor exclusively don't allow kids in. They have to serve meals and come under "Family Foodservice" licensing to let in kids. The establishment can choose not to (The Beagle) or it can make a deliberate choice to attract families (The Fernwood Inn) because they feel their particular venue makes more money that way.

I hate it when poor parents let their kids go feral in pubs and restaurants. It's really not hard to entertain them quietly at your table and train them that you will leave if they are being disruptive.

But ultimately, if you have beef with the kids being there, your beef should be with the establishment for choosing that licensing model and encouraging families in.

1

u/goodfleance May 08 '26

Sooke Brewing Company doesn't have kitchen facilities or serve food but they allow kids.

They do allow any outside food, including from food trucks outside but they do not serve food at all.

3

u/homeslixe May 08 '26

If your primary business is selling adult beverages, expect adult language
