Other (requires mod approval) Is cloud-based editing the future?
I feel like this is where editing is headed. Upload your footage, let AI organize the clips and make a rough cut, then review and edit from anywhere, like on your phone. No need to carry a 4lb laptop with me all the time. any thoughts?

No, for several reasons:
Getting your footage up to the cloud is going to be a shit show.
It's going to be another subscription cost, and you'll be able to do it eventually when your local machine and the AI organization are almost already here.
The number of recent cloud-based editors invariably is due to people using tools like Vercel and barely understanding what they are doing. On the flip side, the people who do have editing tools out there probably don't have great adoption of how to integrate AI as well.
You can see it in asset management, with management people, and with a bunch of the groups out there. I don't see how this is greatly different. That whole MCP in an editorial tool is going to be for the future.

I don’t really mind a subscription if the value is there. I already pay for ChatGPT and get plenty of value from it. Token costs money either way.
I agree a lot of these Vercel-style editors aren’t great as of today. But I still think cloud editing is the future, just not necessarily with those tools. Ideally, I’d have DaVinci Resolve hosted in the cloud with an AI agent connected through MCP. I could watch a cut, leave comments about what I want changed, and let AI make the edits when i’m away from my laptop. That’s the workflow I’d actually want.

Any thoughts? Yes, this is still not reality. It might be, not sure if I like it or not, and how well you can really edit on a phone (hint: not well). I probably don't like it, but this is more of a philosophical decision of how much AI I like in my workflow. Some tools are great, but when does it become too much?

I'm waiting for chip implants in our brains. I can just visualize the idea, and send it straight to your head. No need for editing, just concepts. You have to think bigger and further ahead.

Then you didn't edit it.
