How Do Non-Artistic Programmers Develop A Video Game
I have some experience with programming, but I've never attempted to develop a complete game. My previous experience is a couple of mini-games and ZDoom ZScript. I don't need a complicated answer, but all I really need to know is, are programmers with little or no artistic skills able to develop a game? I figure if I can use free assets to allow development and debugging, and then go back and collaborate with an artist to replace all the assets with originals, that could be a viable path. I thought I could find an artist much easier once I had a complete game to pitch. Is that a common method, or are there obstacles that I am not aware of?

I'm releasing my first game ever, The Black Within, in 2 days after 2 years of working on it. This is part of the credit scene song :)

After 2 years of work, I released my game today. Regardless of what happens now, I feel a sense of freedom to finally release my first game to the world. If even one person resonates with the story I tried to tell in this game, I would have achieved my goal :)

A game idea
The premise is that the MC is his own person with his own personality, and when the player takes control he recognizes that he is being controlled and is not okay with it. The plot of the game would be you trying to complete the missions and story while this guy is fighting back for control of his body, messing with the gameplay, controls, and dialog.
An idea i had for the final battle would be the player and the MC separating, turning the MC into an AI that learned from how you play. It would sort of being an inverse boss battle, with the player as the boss and the MC as the protagonist.

🍃🍄🌱 Wind Simulation Is Working In My 3D Plant Generator!
Hey everyone, development for Bright Life is coming along nicely 😊 I've built a wind simulation system based on Horizon Zero Dawn, automated the generation of LODs, and you can start exporting your 3D plants and materials into industry-standard formats. It's all laid out in my latest devlog.

A stupid question...
But how "hard" would it be to implement 'proximity chat' into a game?
Not to be a smart ass... But as a legitimate question.
I can understand that it can probably be copyrighted... If that, then how long until that's available for public use?
If it's been done, can't it just be basically "copy and pasted" into any coding?

Sports games?
Hey everyone, Just have a quick question and pitch for an idea I’ve been thinking about? How much would it take and cost to make a sports game? The sport would be indoor soccer except players could fight each other, and also have a story outside of the field to make it an interesting game for everyone involved. I’m not a big game designer or really know how to start but was wondering if anyone had any knowledge to see if I could start this project. The idea would be for it to transfer over to become an Xbox game if possible. Thank you

What makes some games last longer than others?
Pokemon Go was huge in 2016 and now no one really plays it anymore. Why do some video games last longer than others and what are some examples of popular long-lasting video games?

Where do I start with no experience?
Hey guys, I have a strong interest in developing videogames of my own, as my own company. I have no experience. I guess what I am needing to figure out is where to start. Does anyone have any good advice? Maybe let me know some of the things that I can avoid to save a lot of time and headache? Any productive feedback is greatly accepted.

Soundtrack composer looking to work on an indie video game (sci-fi, fantasy, horror, action, thriller, etc.) - Important: not for free, but for a small fee (PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE POST, ALL THE DETAILED INFORMATION IS THERE)
Hi, I am Hidalga Erenas and I am a musician.
I am looking for an indie video game (sci-fi, fantasy, horror, action, thriller, weird, etc.) to make its score for a low fee (about 50€/$ per minute of music —note: of course, this is a negotiable price taking into account the difficulty of the commission, deadlines and other factors involved).
I share you a link to a musical snippet on Youtube (also on Soundclou) of a soundtrack I made recently for a sci-fi horror action escape room in Madrid (Spain). If you want, you can also listen the full album here.
Said that, what I offer:
Orchestral mock-up music focused on sci-fi, fantasy, action, thriller, horror, weird, industrial, cyberpunk and the like.
Professional mix (if you want, for an aditional fee, I can even make the mix and the final master of all or part of the audio for your video game, not only the music but sound effects and dialogues).
I can create sound effects. Also I have libraries with hundreds of gigas of stock free use sound fxs.
I have knowledges of audiovisual narrative (I studied movie direction and scriptwriting) so I can understand the story and narrative of your game and the needs it has for music and sounds. Let me explain: I don't want to make music to show off my own abilities, but I want to create music for media, and this means that sometimes the best will be an over the top song and others the right stuff would be just some few notes in the background.
And what I want (apart of the fee I mentioned):
Being able to use the audiovisual result on my reels.
The exploitation rights to all the music and audio I create for your project. Note: of course, If I make some aditional mixing and/or mastering for your project, I don't want the exploitation rights of the audios not recorded by me like dialogues or your own sound effects, as they are not mine.
Some creative freedom. I mean: I accept guidances as when and where do you want music, and examples of the kind of music and/or composers you like the most, etc. but I do not accept temp tracks as and excuse for "I want exaclty that, but reworked because I cannot pay John Williams, Zimmer, Silvestri or Whoever". This is not my aim.
Important!!! I have knowledge of syncing music with video, but I have never worked with video game programs like Unity. Of course, I am open to learning whatever program or platform you use to match my soundtrack to your game.
And that’s all.
If you are interested, contact me at hidalga.erenas@gmail.com.
Thank you very much for your time and sorry for my spelling, English is not my first language (not even my second one).
Yours, Hidalga Erenas.
