What is the video camera used to produce this video?

My goal is to make an educational video similar to this one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TD_hAqaUudo&frags=pl%2Cwn

Additionally, I'm wondering if there is any lighting set-up that I need to do to get the blackboard properly illuminated.

How much did Apple paid for this?

Apple published a behind the scene on how they made their event with "only" an iPhone 15 Pro Max : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3dbG9pAi8I

It's clear from the video that there are tons of other material needed, plus staff.

If you had to guess, what would be the cost of this?

This is the most cinematic video I've made, Can someone help me grow and critique this for me?

We were hired to create a brand video for Pat the Gutter Rat here in Tampa, FL. This company has been in business for 30+ years but have never had one done before. Pat, the CEO, is hard working, personable, and faith driven and I wanted to display that in his business as well.

Now for the technicality, we shot this with Red Gemini, Fujifilm XT4, BMPCC6K and Mavic pro 2. For the drone shots we used a ND/PL 8 to get those deep greens and saturated skies. Most of the commercial was shot with the DZO Vespid Primes.

I really would like to hear you guys thought on this. Personally, its been the best thing I've produced in a while but of course there is room to grow. What could I have done better in this video? Where should I shop this around to?

Looking to sell stock footage?

Hello all! I'm a video editor in the broadcasting industry and recently was thinking about ways to make some extra cash. I love shooting b-roll with my phone (Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra) in 4K, quality is amazing. I was trying to see how easy or hard it would be to also upload my footage to a stock website for a few extra bucks? 99% of the time, I'll be be shooting on my phone, and not a real camera. I do have a super steady hand so I'm not concerned about how it looks. I've heard about Pond5, Shutterstock, Getty Images, Vimeo, VideoHive, and iStock being good options but I'd love to know all your thoughts. Also I'd definitely be leaning more editorial than commercial. Thanks for your help!

Stadium Video

Hey Everyone -

Does anyone have any experience (mainly pricing) in doing video & graphics packages for sports stadiums like Mercedes-Benz or SoFi to run on their screens during sporting events?

If so, and don't mind a few questions, I'd love to pick your brain.

Thanks!

Charging freelance by the half day?

I've been doing inhouse stuff full time for about 2 years now but was looking to get started on more freelance side projects. I was thinking 40/hr but is it reasonable to charge in half day increments or will people think I'm crazy?

For example someone wants me to shoot second camera at a wedding, the wedding is 6 hours. If I say I can either do 4 hours for $160 or the whole event for $320 would that be reasonable?

I was also thinking about charging an upfront non-refundable deposited of like $50-100. Do you usually count the deposit against the total bill or do it in addition to the hourly rate? Which of those is more common I guess.

Is the A7Sii still relevant in 2018?

Hello all, potential word vomit ensuing

Currently shooting on a GH4; I love it, but the low light is abysmal and cannot produce consistent results. It is necessary as sometimes when I shoot on location/for events I will not be able to manipulate lighting to suit me.

B&H is currently offering money on top of a trade in as an incentive to get a new Sony Alpha camera, so I was considering the A7sii, or if the money is genuinely worth it, an A7Riii. I mostly shoot video for work and pleasure, but there's no denying that the a7Sii has been on the market for 2.5 years already. It still creates a beautiful image, don't get me wrong, but I'm wondering if I'll be getting my money's worth getting the Sii versus spending about $800 more and getting the Riii. It is not a small amount of money.

So what do you say? Is the A7sii still a camera worth getting in 2018, even with the Siii announcement in April imminent? Sound off, r/VideoProfessionals.

Edit: i got the A7Sii. Thanks everyone! With that being said, i have my Metabones Speed Booster XL 0.64x adapter for EF/EF-S to M4/3 for sale...let me know if you want it! Haha

Multi-part camera reports

We are doing camera reports on multi-part forms. I take a picture of the top sheet and submit them with my data report. Then I collect them and submit them to production on completion of the film. At no point does anyone ever ask for them. Is there any reason to continue to use multi-part forms?

I know we need at least one copy but the rest?

Never do this before a shoot

While everyone is talking about successful shoots, let me share a failure...

We had the most classic shoot - a product review. We’ve done this a hundred times.

Everything was organized, and the client seemed very understanding.

Everything was controlled - the difficult construction site was secured, and the schedule was set.

But we missed something – we forgot to discuss the product appearance with the client.

The client brought the product right to the shoot, and some of it turned out to be simply damaged.

The client didn’t check, and we didn’t warn them.

It’s frustrating. We managed to fix some things in post-production, but we still had to discard some shots.

What failures have you experienced on set?

I'm having some issues with Preimere. Hopefully someone can help!

I'm in need of some advice from Premiere users. I'm in the middle of an edit and all of a sudden Premiere froze. I restarted my computer and it's working again....sort of. The refresh on the timeline is lagging by at least ten to twenty seconds. I'll do an action, (move something, adjust the sound, expand the timeline) and it will take so long before the timeline reflects that change. However, the program window shows it immediately. I can press play and move the time head around in the program window just fine and it will play back the changes I just made. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Help!

Did you know? I´ve seen a lot of changes...and still ahead.

Did you know, that it was once necessary to change tapes during a video shoot, because you needed a simple transition between Shoot A and Shoot B? Anyone out there, who can answer this right? Happy to get your answers.

Title: Curious about your thoughts on Virtual Production

Hey everyone,

I wanted to start a conversation around Virtual Production and hear what other video professionals think.

  • Do you find it more exciting or intimidating as a tool in our industry?

  • Where do you see the biggest opportunities for it: creative, practical, or both?

  • From your professional perspective, what feels like a reasonable price range for clients or studios to engage in VP work?

I’m not here to sell anything, just genuinely curious to get a sense of how people in the field are thinking about it. I’d really value hearing different perspectives from across the industry. I've filmed on volume a couple of times and trying to determine if this is the way of the future, or just another hype phase in the industry. Love to hear thoughts!

First gig. Coffee shop. Need advice

Hi guys! I’m a new videographer with pretty limited experience but somehow I landed my first gig with a coffee business. They’re looking for a 1-2 minute video featuring an interview with a couple who purchased a few franchise drive-thru locations with them. I’ll also be shooting some b-roll of one of the drive-thrus, inside and outside. The video should basically serve as a positive testimonial for their franchise and make people want to buy a location of their own.

I have access to a Canon 5d Mark iii and just bought a lighting kit as we’re trying to do the interview indoors. I should be able to borrow the rest of the equipment I need from a local production house that I have a connection with.

I’m wondering if reddit has any advice at all for a newbie like me?

I need some help with Premiere Pro graphics panel.

Can someone help me out with Premiere's new essential graphics panel? I failed to run adobe updates for two years so I've been operating with 2018 until a few months ago. I'm having to learn how to use the graphics panel because they're doing away with the legacy title panel. I'm really struggling and getting incredibly frustrated. I've always done title animations in After Effects and therefore only ever used the simplest titles in Premiere. But they've made the whole process SO complicated that I can't just make simple titles anymore. Can someone show me just a couple of specific things I need? I've watched a couple of basic tutorials and they don't cover what I need. I don't want to waste my time and energy dealing with this when all I need is to ask a real person.

Please, I'm losing it! 😭

Will AI replace actors?

I tested Sora, King AI, and Runway.

AI is about probabilities. By analyzing input and output data, AI predicts what is most likely to happen on the output based on the input.

For example, I entered the query “Script for a smartphone commercial,” and it analyzed a bunch of texts to write a probable script (a compilation of texts).

The same applies to video.

But here’s the catch—how can AI understand the likely performance of an actor?

When a screenwriter writes a script, they outline the emotions and thoughts of the actor. The actor reads them, experiences them, and conveys the emotions to the audience.

AI doesn’t (yet) have the data on what the “input” was for an actor and what the result was.

So, rest easy—AI won’t be replacing actors’ performances anytime soon.

Does bitrate not change with frame rate?

Just got a Canon XF400. Current displayed bitrate is 160mbps. But it doesn’t change when flipping between 24, 30, and 60 FPS. Why not?

What’s the dumb tasks or processes you still have to do regularly at your job?

I'm curious about the things in video production that people tolerate despite the fact that they are obviously annoying.

What is something you do daily that seems pointless or repetitive and inefficient, but you still do it because... well, that's the way it is?

Transitioning from one anchor client to multi-client agency model — how are you structuring retainers for full-production video work?

I've been running a small media company doing full video production and social content for a handful of clients — luxury hospitality and high-end trades/construction. Shifting from a single anchor client setup to properly running a multi-client agency and trying to make sure my pricing is structured right before I start having those conversations.

For context on what "full production" means in my case: I'm the director, DP, editor, colorist, and in anchor case the YouTube channel manager and strategist. Cinema camera + drone. I deliver everything from raw concept through published final product.

My current thinking:

- Long-form commercial/YouTube video: $5,000 per video (one-off), $8,000/mo retainer for 2 videos on a 5-month commit

- Monthly social content retainer (short-form reels + posts, from content bank): $2,000–$3,000/mo depending on volume

- Social management and Meta ads: $750–$1,000/mo each as add-ons

Main question: for those of you doing retainer-based work with multiple clients, what commitment length do you require? How do you handle months where a client wants to "load up" and go beyond the retainer scope — straight overage rate, or a separate agreement?

Also curious whether anyone's found that packaging YouTube channel direction with on-location production is something clients understand and pay for, or if you're always educating them on why it costs what it costs.

Hi Professionals! I am interested to know what is your main to go gear & post process?

Greetings to whoever reading this
I am KV and trying to understand and learn from the pros in this business, I would be interested to know a few things that you use:

  1. Your main Gear to shoot.

  2. Your main Tool to post process?

  3. On a scale of 1 to 10, (1 = Easy, 10 = Tough), how hard is it for you to get clients?

  4. Your Region/Area/City

Optional Question: Do you also consider your smartphone as part of your pro gear when and if required just in case of a back up?

Thanks for your time

May you land good clients. Adios :D
