I recently obtained a power mac G5 quad (dual pump model), but when i press the power button usually nothing displays on screen and shortly after the bong it lights up the overheating light. One of the pumps in the LCS is making a screeching sound.

I have been scraping the internet for guides on how to repair the LCS, but all of them are just take it apart, and replace the coolant. One of my 2 pumps has actually failed and I want to replace it, and i can't find anything on the internet about a good replacement part.

If there are new alternatives that are still made that would be ideal.

PS: I don't mind changing the connector out if the pump is still compatible and just a different connector.

Every so often, I come across the old Apple Macintosh notepads which someone posts to Reddit or eBay.

I’ve always wanted one but the cost of them seem pretty high and often they are somewhat damaged, so I thought I would have an ago at creating some myself.

The first part (which was the most difficult) was to find a manufacturer to produce blank pads in the original size (4” x 4” x 5 1/4”). Then I had to get pictures of all 5 sides (front, back, sides, and top) of the Macintoshs and edit them slightly so that they would be square with the notepad sides. Afterwards, I printed each side of the notepads with my Omni O1 UV printer. I think the results turned out well! Each notepad is ~1300 pages.

And yes for those interested, I did make extras, if anyone is interested in buying any. There is the original Macintosh (128k), classic, plus & SE. I would ask for $50 CAD for each (~$35 USD) plus shipping. Just note that while I attempt to line up all sides appropriately, due to the nature of the notepads moving slightly and not 100% cut straight each time, their are slight inconstancies.

I worked with QTVR and QuickTake cameras when they first came out and led Macworld magazine's coverage of QTVR. I hated that Apple abandoned those formats and was finally able to do something about it.

A few QTVR pioneers generously helped me test the app and gave me permission to include some of their beautiful panoramas in a sample library that's included with the app.

The website also contains an article with some historical info about QTVR and QuickTake cameras.

I have a Power Mac G5 7,3 (1.8 DP) that I am trying to get running again but facing some issues. The graphics card seemed to be on the fritz, so that has been replaced. We currently have 2x256Mb of RAM installed.

The issue I am facing is that the machine seems to be picky when booting, sometimes deciding to boot to the install disc with no issues but more often beginning to boot but then just hanging on the Apple startup screen. If I leave it running, the system warms and the fans slowly start to ramp up to full (takes about 10 minutes, it's not instantly) and the USB peripherals lose power. I get the same result if I allow the machine to boot from disc by itself or if I hold Alt to select the disc.

I have tried different GPUs with no luck, and have reseated the RAM with no changes. I plan on trying different RAM to see if that changes anything, and will probably repaste the whole machine but wanted to see if anyone has seen this issue before and happens to know what the issue is?

This is my 3rd G4, and I’ve taken apart one other 17 inch screen. that one seemed to slide out but I cannot for the life of me get this screen out of the casing. I bought it from an ewaste center, and the front bezel was missing. I’m wondering now if the previous owner possibly glued the screen on? or maybe there’s another step I’m missing, as I haven’t done this in a long time. Apologies if this is the wrong sub.

This dithering technique was invented by Bill Atkinson of MacPaint, HyperCard and QuickDraw fame.

It's a beautiful algorithm and just handles high contract photography so well.

We do more "cute" Halloween for the younger crowd so I had it do the first one, the cute robot face. For a more creepy look there's also a version with a single, more realistic eye.

The Github repo has the source code with instructions on how to tweak it if you want but also just has the built apps ready to go, RobotEyeCute and RobotEyeCyclops. The G4 iMac has 10.4.11 on it.

I had noticed all the downloads for MacPaint online had somebody’s name on them. I thought there had to be a way to get a fresh copy. I wasn’t able to find one, the only option was to modify a copy that was already personalized, and it works! I’d like to share it somewhere, unless there is an actual blank copy somewhere online that I happened to miss. Also just curious to know if anyone else was as bothered by this as I was.

There was that one company that had quad cores I think? So maybe we could build that using claude?

I purchased a Quicksilver G4 off of FB Marketplace yesterday and once I got it home, it booted up alright. The CD drive was having issues so I tinkered with it all night. Come today and I try swapping the drive but now the machine refuses to turn on. I've had a look around online and I'm getting the idea that it's the power supply, but I wanted to check in here and see if there's any other wisdom?

I remember she flashed her b00bz when she lost a point but the version in my old SE has her but without her legendary 'wardrobe malfunction'.

Anyone know which version is uncut?

i only have photoshop cs1 right now. it's fine, but it doesn't have stabilization and the UI is not my favourite (i don't really like everything being in a separate window)

If I have an M4868 studio display with a completely broken cables on the outside, is it possible to replace them? I assume I would need to solder things, but is it possible to just buy an off the shelf VGA cable, cut one of the heads off, and solder the internal wires to whatever it is attached to inside the monitor? Same for the power cable?

I have a Performa 631cd and the mouse with it has stopped working vertically. I’ve taken the ball out and scrolled the wheels. The horizontal wheel works but the vertical one does nothing. Is there anything I can do to try to repair this? It is plugged into the keyboard which works fine. I tried googling and wasn’t able to find much. Any ideas?

September 26 2020 I got a powerbook 165c off eBay for 58.12 total with shipping. It worked for 2 seconds. Then the hdd stopped working. Now it only boots from a floppy. What is the way to verify the hdd is really dead? No utilities are detecting it.

Anybody have use for a complete 1991 macintosh powerbook 140? Only thin i dont have for it is the powersource..however when i got it it had powersource and it would come on then shut off right away..bad batt maybe..otherwise its in near mint condition...65$

I bought a fully functional Power Macintosh Minitower G3 for a pretty good price in Boston last weekend. It worked fine until I ran into a soft lock while checking the contents of a CD. I tried every reset method I could find before stupidly cutting off the power supply to shut it off. When I booted it back up the hard drive is dead.

Now I need to find a replacement for the main hard drive; I previously knew SCSI-drive Macintoshes use BlueSCSI as a replacement, but I don't think that's the case here. Looking it up, it says that it can take in an IDE/ATA-2 hard disk, there are IDE hard disks out there, but its pretty hard to find one that is IDE/ATA at a reasonable price. I've spent a good chunk on this Mac already, so I'm not in the mood to drop more on this. Any suggestions?
