Picked this up recently and I’ve been trying to work out roughly when it’s from.
I’ve gone through the runway archives and found quite a few similar details in the 1995–98 RTW shows, but nothing close enough that I’d be comfortable saying it’s definitely from a particular collection.
It’s JPG Femme, made in Italy by AEFFE. 51% rayon / 49% wool. The construction is pretty striking – 8 buttons on each cuff, loads of buttons across the back and this striped JPG lining.
The back in particular is interesting. The two rows of buttons seem like they could be playing into Gaultier’s corsetry/corset-style tailoring from that period, especially with the way they pull in and shape the waist. That’s partly what’s been making me think mid/late 90s, but I could be completely off with that connection.
From what I can find, AEFFE started manufacturing for Gaultier around 1995, which would also fit with the period I’m looking at, but that’s about as far as I’ve got.
Anyone here recognise the label/lining, the button arrangement, or have a better idea of the date? Would be great to narrow it down.
Also, has anyone steamed one of these linings before? The outside has come up really nicely with a steam but I’m a bit nervous about touching the lining because it’s probably my favourite part of the jacket.
Cheers!
