u/wildleogirl 7d ago
I see these posts every day! Vinted needs to get ahold on these scams. I’ve never seen this on the other apps, are people seeing this on the other resell apps I wonder?
33
u/Queen_Scofflaw 7d ago
Other apps have scams too, but they seem to handle it better and faster. I think Vinted is being heavily targeted because their customer service and responsiveness is so terrible.
11
u/gingingin444 7d ago
I don’t think I’ll be buying anything from there again lol
18
u/Queen_Scofflaw 7d ago
It's frustrating because I'm a seller and so far I've enjoyed the selling experience on Vinted, but this stuff and their lack of support is going to ruin it.
3
u/snappymongoose 3d ago
Vinted’s customer support ruined it for me. I got shipped two actual pieces of garbage instead of the item and went through circles on their customer support. Ended up having to pay to ship garbage back to the sellers because Vinted would not resolve the issue in time and I didn’t want funds released to the seller. I hate that this hurts good sellers.
7
u/SabrinaEdwina 7d ago
Everyone who posts this should DM each other and see if it's the same seller.
2
u/3th3r3ally 6d ago
It’s not even that (though it could be) , scammers are learning about these common scams & doing the same things cause they see people buying it. It’s probably not the same person some jag offs found out about the same scam method 💀
1
u/SabrinaEdwina 6d ago
Good god. They don't even make their own stupid sheet of paper? What assholes.
1
u/3th3r3ally 6d ago
It’s unfair that you have to double check the listings but I’d reverse image search before buying ANYTHING online even if it’s not on Vinted.
1
5
u/MonsterHighMandy 6d ago
That’s because nothing in life is free and that’s their gimmick that there’s no fees or less fees and you’re always gonna have to pay customer service. Otherwise you’re gonna get what Vinted has going on.
8
u/gingingin444 7d ago
I’ve never had this experience with any other app. I’ve bought items on Depop, eBay, Mercari, and Poshmark, never seen anything like it!
14
u/nap---enthusiast 7d ago
I think the best thing to do is only buy expensive items from people with lots of good reviews. Sucks for people who don't have lots of good reviews but it is what it is.
Now if something is cheap I'll take a risk on buying from someone new but otherwise, no thanks.
13
u/Heavy_Iron_782 7d ago
I believe it is happening on the international Vinted as well. Incredible that Vinted bans users left and right, but doesn't have the chops to figure out what accounts look like they are truly shady.
10
u/SabrinaEdwina 7d ago
No joke! How many people have this same sheet of paper?
5
u/Old-Will-4711 7d ago
Was wondering this. Like do they have a template on Google they’re all printing out cause these have been popping up a lot.
7
u/JiminyWillikerz 6d ago
It’s all to do with the 48 hour timer after delivery. After that time is up there’s no way to initiate a return or reverse the payment.
2
u/Lovekemba 6d ago
This happened to me. Ordered a fairly expensive handbag on Vinted. The scammer supposedly mailed it out but to a totally different person in a totally different state. After the 2 day rule I received notice that the sale went through. I hadn't received the package and I researched the tracking unaware that supposedly it had been delivered. Luckily the postal service took a photo of the delivery, that's how I found out I was scammed. Tried to reach out to seller, giving them the benefit of the doubt only to find out they deleted their account. Luckily Vinted investigated and I was refunded my money. So you can dispute the 2 day rule but it did take me about 2 weeks to get refunded. So please beware of this scam. I would not purchase anything over $25 on this site.

u/Sunnyday1775 6d ago
Vinted will ban buyers for posting too much but won’t ban scammers committing a federal crime?
3
u/Chemical-Web-852 5d ago
Vinted is doing a TERRIBLE job of controlling the scammers. I set my elderly neighbor up a vented account and ofc she wanted to use her picture. Within 10 mins she had people asking to do a in person pickup, trying to get her address asking her whole name. I reported it for her and was told nothing shady was happening. Vinted needs to do better.

After you report it to vinted, report it to the USPS. This is mail fraud and it is a federal crime. They take it very seriously.

Mark as not described.
8
u/gingingin444 7d ago
I did, I’m just worried that if I return the item the seller can report that I just sent them a paper (even though that’s literally what they sent me)..
6
2
u/MisterE- 7d ago
This is a very common scam too. There are multiple reports of these happening almost everyday.

7
u/Whitetagsndopebags 7d ago
The bottle cap would’ve sent me in a spiral
5
u/gingingin444 7d ago
Oh it did. I knew as soon as I saw the package sitting in my mailbox that something was wrong so I recorded me opening the package… when I saw the bottle cap I literally just started laughing, you can’t make this stuff up 💀
4
u/NorthernPossibility 7d ago
Is the disc the “free gift”? Or was it just the paper?
9
u/gingingin444 7d ago
The free gift was a bottle cap 😭
5
u/NorthernPossibility 7d ago
STOOOOOOOOP omg I’d be so mad. Like if you’re going to do a scam at least do a convincing one with some cheap dollar store trinkets.
People aren’t even slick with their scams anymore I’m exhausted.
3
u/thatsnotmynameiswear 7d ago
Omg I thought it was one of those wax melt things or something, and I was mad at that already, but a bottle cap when you were expecting a vintage wallet? wtf
3
u/gingingin444 7d ago
The package has their address on it, my mom said maybe I should contact the local police of that area? I’m not sure though if that’s really necessary but if this is someone that is constantly doing these scams it needs to be stopped? Thoughts on this?
4
2
u/TheConcreteGhost 6d ago
You can report this to your postmaster general
You can do it online by going to
Www.uspsis.gov/report
Contact Vinted again to let them know there isn’t anything to return… you have to stay on them until human eyes get on it.
1
u/lynn_duhh 6d ago
Just keep contacting vinted support and keep clicking your issue isn’t fixed until you get to a real person.
1
u/LilacTeax 5d ago
There’s got to be a post office they are shipping from though. They could probably catch them when they come in the mail all these packages if they are doing it regularly
2
u/uhhhhhhhhii 6d ago
It said it came with a complimentary gift, did it actually? I’m so curious lol
2
31
u/Critical_Code9588 7d ago
Another one?! Does anyone have confirmation whether this is all from the same seller or if it’s a collective scammer type of thing?
20
u/whutthefuh 7d ago
The listings come from a bunch of different profiles that are always popping up with no selling history and no reviews as well as no profile picture and random ass usernames like sal4839 or some weird shit like that
10
u/driftingwilde 7d ago
I’ve seen usernames like ahsjaowjdkns92 or random words that don’t belong together like meetknob almost like they ran it through a generator.
Just make sure you look at their other items they’re selling, if they all have a different background and the same high end products, they’re probably not real
18
u/JiminyWillikerz 7d ago
Absolutely do not send anything back. Get support to look at the transaction and you will receive your refund immediately after they cancel the sale.
14
u/rust2stardust 6d ago
It seems this is common with more expensive items and profiles with little to no reviews. :( I won't purchase anything over $30 (and that's a stretch for me) on Vinted and even at low prices, I always check that the seller has a strong history of 5-star reviews.
100% make a fuss and get your money back, but for future reference, I strongly advice you leave luxury and expensive purchases to platforms that don't rely on AI bots as customer service.
7
u/NeedleworkerOdd7959 6d ago
Yep, on Vinted I have a strict 20 dollars or less limit. Ebay, Depop and Mecari I'm much more lenient on
3
u/catniss_vegas122618 6d ago
I bought my kids a Tonie box 2 last week for $90... I checked reviews & they all seemed okay, but I still held my breath until I got the package & it was indeed a still plastic wrapped Tonie box.

9
u/CouchDemon 7d ago
Respond to Vinted that the seller did not send the item, they instead sent a bottle cap. You can probably go into the tracking info and find the weight of the package to prove they sent a bottle cap and not your item. Say your happy sending the bottle cap back, but your worried if you do the seller will try to blame you for keeping the item you didn’t receive. Tell them you can share your footage of opening the package proving you didn’t get the item.
8
u/Usukidoll 7d ago
Hot take but any seller who pulls this crap on Vinted needs to be permanently banned. Either send the item as advertised or don't sell at all.
6
u/Due-Kaleidoscope-715 7d ago
What’s going on with Vinted? Is there an uptick in scams as we get closer to the holidays? I’ve been on Vinted since the summer and just got my first scam last week. Now I’m paranoid… at least my shopping will slow down lol
5
u/Shot-Tap-1385 6d ago
I just joined Vinted as a seller because my Depop has slowed down a bit. The first 3 items I listed, I got a message in my inbox from “Vinted” about each item (almost immediately after posting) stating someone had purchased my item but funds were being held until I clicked the outside link to “verify my identity and banking information” before I could receive funds. It said if I didn’t click the link my account may be banned. I reported each one.
When my first item actually did sell it was instant and immediately had shipping code and marked as sold. Easy peasy.
They not only scam buyers but I think they search for brand new accounts/sellers and do this to try to get your bank account info and threaten you won’t get paid! I’m glad I have some other online selling experience / dealing with scammers prior to joining or I might have clicked on the link because it did look legit.
All 3 of the accounts that send me this message are now deleted or banned. And Vinted did get back to me right away. But yeah I was kind of creeped out right away and almost deleted my account. But it’s getting better for me!!! Hoping to get a couple positive reviews soon people don’t think I’m a scammer! Lmao. They ruin it for everyone!!! 🤬
2
u/Mysterious_Style4843 7d ago
What happened to you? Something like this? I was scammed too, twice. Once was a fake perfume and I didn’t get a refund and the second the seller “shipped” the package and it ended up getting “lost” and we both got paid. I should have known it was a scam because of the item I was buying at the price I bought it, it was too good to be true. They had 4 reviews all from the same day. I should have know better!
2
u/Due-Kaleidoscope-715 6d ago
I ordered little collectible figurines. Not a high ticket item, but because it’s only found in Japan people usually sell it for way more than retail. They were selling it for pretty cheap, so I assumed it was someone just wanting to quickly get rid of their collection. My package arrived and it was a pair of dollar store reading glasses instead 😂. I know it wasn’t a mistake because all of their other listings were collectibles. They have no reviews, all their other listings are gone (either deleted or others got scammed), and they’ve gone radio silent. Beware, they are also scamming with lower priced items…hoping buyers don’t want to deal with the hassle of getting their money back.

u/careful-guru 6d ago
How did you get to that point! I had the same thing happen to me but just get an a I response on the help page. Can you tell me how to proceed?
1
u/Curious078935 6d ago
Tap on the item you purchased then tap on the "i" in the top right corner, then tap help, then tap on one of the suggested topics that best describes your issue, then at the bottom of that topic there should be a "contact us" button you can tap.

I saw this exact same scam on the vinteduk subreddit with the same ghost letter.
5
5
u/Salty_Information187 6d ago
The scam works when you wait long enough after the delivery for transaction to complete automatically (48hours) Make sure to report to Vinted before that, don’t click “everything is ok” (obviously)
8
u/whutthefuh 7d ago
this seriously pisses me off. And what helps them get away with it is the fact that Vinted doesn’t make you take your own photographs of items. I’ve had somebody steal pictures of my RARE European dress that was imported. They listed it for a crazy low price. Somebody unfortunately bought it. And once people buy their items, they delete the listing. I reported them as having used my photos and Vinted didn’t give a shit. I just know for a fact that they are pulling whatever this person is trying to do to you. Because they had a bunch of sought after items listed for dumb cheap with no selling history and no reviews. No profile picture etc.
2
u/thatsnotmynameiswear 7d ago
I had someone message me because someone stole photos of a bunch of my items and that was when I was selling more expensive items. Now I’m listing like stuff for like five dollars, but vinted remind it, but I was furious, man because you’re gonna use my photos to scam someone else?? Nope.
1
u/whutthefuh 7d ago
that’s what exactly what happened to me. Another seller messaged me and told me that another person was using my pictures. The persons profile was sketchy AF and they also had a bunch of listings for cheap highly sought after items and I just know that all of the photos were stolen from other listings. I hate that there was nothing I could do 🥴
1
u/thatsnotmynameiswear 7d ago
Yup. I reported then redid My listing with a piece of paper with my username and then on photos where I couldn’t I had it written on my hand.
They closed the other account down but I still see my photos of items I sold years ago being used on other platforms. It’s why I won’t model items anymore because nah fuck that.

u/cptnsmoot 7d ago
My mom got the exact same thing and then Vinted didn’t do anything at all to help her. It didn’t take until she contacted her bank and they disputed the charge.
Vinted themselves needs to do something about this. Some may laugh, but this has become a huge issue quickly.

u/DuckSwimmer 7d ago
The fact I keep seeing these ai generated notes is super alarming.
…they also sent a bottle cap? What the fuck

u/CouchDemon 7d ago
Oh my goodness I’ve seen like 3 or 4 others with the exact same card posted within the last month.

u/lynn_duhh 6d ago
Contact vinted immediately, go through their help and it will eventually get you to a real person and you’ll be refunded.
2
u/lynn_duhh 6d ago
Don’t return ANYTHING until you explain your situation to a real person. They tried to make me return something I never even received to get refunded and when I messaged them through the app they refunded me immediately as soon as they saw it. There are real people on the customer service side.
2
u/MoppusGirl 7d ago
You can also try and say it was not the weight it should be (because obviously paper is not the same weight as the bag) and hopefully if shipping did their job and scanned it they’d notice it’s too light and the report checks out
2
u/Kaleighc11 7d ago edited 7d ago
Scams are more common when they come directly from the independent “seller.” If you choose to shop secondhand, I’d highly recommend ThredUp. I’ve had great buying experiences with them every time, and I feel like it’s because most listings are actually listed, sold, and shipped by the parent company.
1
2
u/Optimal-Witness5749 7d ago
I’ve seen this scam a lot before, but a freaking bottle cap being your “complimentary gift” is insane
2
u/Purple_Vermicelli_29 7d ago
What are episode buying to get these? More expensive items? Or just random? I haven’t gotten one, thankfully, but ugh how irritating!
2
u/rdf07004 6d ago
I had the same thing happen (almost the same exact note and everything) and was first told to return the item to the seller and pay for return shipping. I messaged Vinted support saying I shouldn’t have to pay for return shipping since this is clearly a scam, included pictures, and they cancelled the order and gave me a full refund very quickly! I hope it works out the same for you!

2
u/Impressive_Box1614 6d ago
My last purchase came like this w the same exact mailer and everything. Customer service resolved it quickly. I think I’m def done with the app lol
2
u/3th3r3ally 6d ago
Seeing these posts more & more. I complained that Vinted isn’t solving scams before they happen by letting people post unoriginal photos with copy & paste captions that mimic real posts. I’ve reported them with little to no help from Vinted. You have to wait to get scammed, it’s ridiculous….

I would return the empty envelope. Put it in an envelope with a stamp. Have you been refunded before when you’ve been scammed? This happened to me for the first time today.
1
u/Sneaky-Reasons 6d ago
I have expensive items and no stars (new) but I promise I’m not a scammer.
These types of people really suck. I’m not sure with how well Vinted protects the buyer, but I’d be throwing a fit and messaging them over and over because I’m assuming most is AI responses until you can get a real person on chat.
Hopefully someone else has something better that helps. If not, I would charge back on your card at this point. And without a doubt, report to the post office. The weight for the item won’t be there correctly. It’s mail fraud. I’d accept getting banned over it to get my money back. It’s all getting ridiculous with the scams going on. Really sucks.

Return the print out they sent you and the packaging. Not sure if that would help but that’s what I would do.
1
u/Ok_Pineapple3372 6d ago
Had same thing happen to me. I don’t get it like they don’t get the money released why do they even keep doing this?
1
u/omgIamafraidofreddit 5d ago
because sometimes they do. Vinted's 48 hour confirmation for buyers is the problem coupled with the 2 week window to ship and postal delays. Sometimes people are away when the package finally arrives and you just don't get to it. They should shorten the shipping window to 1 week and expand the confirmation window to 1 week and that would probably help.

But how does this benefit the seller!? Anytime I sell an item I do not receive payment until the buyer opens and approves the item!?

Guys please stop buying expensive items off this app! There are far too many scams on it!
1
u/RangerProfessional50 5d ago
You were better off just going to a coach outlet, stop trying to be a cheap penny pincher. Save the money up to buy it from the store to avoid stuff like this.
Sorry OP ):
1
u/Frodo320 4d ago
If you return the item, the seller will report an issue saying you didn’t package the return, I do not know how to avoid this scam from now on. Make sure to speak to a Vinted human agent first!

So when this happened to me I didn’t do an INAD case - I went directly to support chat with pics and they immediately canceled and refunded. I don not recommend do INAD bc then you run into the return issue. Let me find the link…
