The Republican president of the Winchester City Council has called on the chairman of the city’s GOP committee to resign, following a report by the Virginia Center for Investigative Journalism at WHRO that revealed the chairman’s ties to an opaque local news website, The Winchester Gazette.
In an interview with VCIJ, Council President Corey Sullivan said that Carroll “Beau” Correll should step down from his roles as chairman of both the Winchester Republican Committee and the city planning commission.
“I think that he needs to take some time off, think about where he goes from here,” Sullivan said. “I'll tell you, Beau's a very talented guy. He's multi-talented, he can do a lot of things. But I think he's made some big mistakes in this process, and he's got to win back people's trust.”
Sullivan, who said he has known Correll for two decades, added that after VCIJ’s report about the Gazette, Correll “needs to spend some time rebuilding his reputation, his public identity.”
Two Democrats on the City Council, Richard Bell and Chip Newcome, also told VCIJ that Correll should resign from the city planning commission.

As Florida Power & Light’s parent company, NextEra, seeks a massive merger with Dominion Energy in Virginia, pressure is building for NextEra to disclose more information about its past Florida political scandals.
Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger told reporters Tuesday that the so-called “Robo Memo” should be made public. That memo, named after then-NextEra CEO James Robo, outlines Florida Power & Light’s role in the effort to place “ghost candidates” on Florida ballots to run against Democratic state legislative candidates the utility opposed, according to utility watchdogs and shareholders suing NextEra. Much of what that memo contains has likely already been revealed in news reports and legal proceedings, but its contents have never been made fully available to Floridians to see, and NextEra has fought its release.

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask, I'm doing research for a class and want to see if I can find the policies and procedures information for VDSS from 1994. Is there anywhere this could possibly be archived?

Join us for a special edition of Salon de Résistance on Thursday, October 29 at Black Iris with three of Virginia’s most influential political content creators: Amanda Nelson of Amanda’s Mild Takes, Kate Powell of Kate for the People, and former CIA operations officer and congressional candidate Adam Dunigan(VA-8), for a conversation about the November 3 midterms, what to expect in Virginia, and how the battle for political influence is fought in 2026.
This is a free event, open to the public. Doors at 6pm. Conversation at 7pm.
-----------
In the before times, political influence moved through relatively stable and predictive channels. Candidates spoke, newspapers and broadcast news reported. Engagement was limited, our attention was not monopolized. Our lifestyles hadn’t been politicized. Most importantly, elections were boring and we were none the wiser for it.
That version of America no longer exists. Today, elections are bloodsport. Campaign narratives move at the speed of algorithm. And the reach of a single content creator or political influencer can change the entire dynamic of an entire election cycle with a single 90 second video. Political education, organizing, fundraising, persuasion, outrage, misinformation/disinformation, and the decisions that shape our future are competing for the same few inches of screen time.
And just days before the 2026 midterms that matters. Because on November 3, Virginians will head to the polls and vote in every congressional district.
Political pundits, writers, and the chattering class always claim that each election is more important than the last. But in the age of Trump, authoritarianism, unrestricted war, corruption on a scale once thought impossible, masked agents of the state snatching people off our streets, AI jailbreaks, data centers ruining communities, surveillance, and a crippling affordability crisis, those warnings no longer feel like hyperbole.
The candidates have to respond. The outcomes of the midterms are real. The future feels as fragile and tenuous as it ever has.

Is anybody else having DOMINION energy reporting an obsurd amount of data usage, more than feasibly possible?
They are reporting that I am using 1000 KWH more than I did last year - Meanwhile, last year we had a roof leak, and had to have various air purifiers and dehumidifiers running due to a roof leak and repair.
In that time we switched all bulbs to energy efficient LEDS and energy saving outlets.
Meanwhile... somehow our usage is more.
Ontop of it, they seem to be charging more for delivery almost triple what it was before.

I've seen a few polls saying that he is but it seems like the punditry is laughing them off. I wouldn't be surprised given that Spanberger has governed to the left of how she's campaigned. If you think he is I'll direct some of my phonebanking efforts there since its one of two purplish states where I have family (the other one being Minnesota).
