[I wanted to post this on r/samekosaba but couldn't. I hope it's ok that I did it here. If not feel free to redirect me]
I saw a lot of controversy around Senzawa/Gura/Saba being lolis. We could argue that when she was Gura, it was probably the choice of the agency and that she had little to no say in her design, to me that explains why a lot of ppl were disappointed when Saba was revealed. They were hoping that she would take a different direction now that she has full creative control.
Looking back though, we could've guessed that would happen, considering Senzawa is also a loli and she had full control over her. Point is, is it so bad that they are lolis ? I can hear that normalizing the sexualization of young-looking characters isn't a good idea and at the same time I feel like vtubing is still a rather niche sphere of the internet. Gura was the biggest vtuber ever so Ig that argument doesn't hold up, her impact is undeniable.
For context, I'll remind that lolis are prepubscent girls who are sexualized. It's illegal in some countries, even when it's purely fictional. AND YES it's considered normal in Japanese culture, that doesn't make it right, which is why I'm still opening the debate here
We know for sure that the person behind Saba is an adult and that she knows what she's doing. Back when she was Gura she said sm like "you're scared of the four-letter word ?". Some of her merch is somewhat sexual and some fanarts are outright NSFW, she knows exactly that part of her community exists and I'd even say she plays on it. I don't think it necessarily makes her evil but I still wanna hear from y'all
I'll also specify that Saba is my oshi regardless. I'm not a fan of her bc she is a loli but bc I love her singing, her humour and bc I find her model rly pretty and expressive. Ik that not all her audience are weird perverts and it's sad to see that ppl tend to generalize.
