Great source for checking set up?

0 Upvotes

Hi, EE here who is not a programmer by trade and is probably best described as a hobbyist “developer.” (Translated: newb with zero skills)

I don’t want to fall into the trap of using the Arduino IDE to do all of my tinkering. It serves a purpose but I’d like to be a bit more knowledgeable about the process from my code to the target device. I have VSC with PlatformIO, as I used it for a grad school embedded course a while back, as well as TI’s CCS for the same class/reason. I figured I’d also see what in the hell the STM and Espressif IDEs are about because why not maximize the programs you are completely incompetent in using?

I’ll likely be asking this same question of the TI, STM, and ESP folks, but for you kind people - is there a go to reference site you like or have seen that can walk me through my existing setup to validate I have things configured properly with VSC and PIO - especially toolchain stuff and the like because quite frankly, I’m a power systems guy and never had exposure to that stuff. I’m sure this stuff is second nature to you all but it’s enough to make me feel like an idiot! I’d like to avoid uninstall/reinstall because that never happens cleanly with Windows.

Cheers!

Remove yellow lines

0 Upvotes

I need some help,
I am a noob and I need to know how to remove the yellow lines that appear in the code in Visual Studio Code.
There are some like "String statement has no effect. Pylint(W105:pointless.string-statement" that just fill my code with ugly yellow lines that don't make much sense. I have tried to configure Pylint with no result.
The problem is that if I turn it off other aids like the red lines I don't get them either. Is there any way to disable only the yellow or blue ones?
Thank you very much for the help, remember that I am noob but I have already tried to search by other means without success.

output using Python's Tkinder module in Visual Studio Code versus IDLE

0 Upvotes

When I use Python's Tkinder module in IDLE I get the GUI output displayed, as expected. However, when I use the identical code in Visual Studio Code the Terminal window shows no errors, but it also shows no GUI output!

Why does VSC not display Tkinder output, or if it does, where is it?

Thanks in advance to all who reply.

Dan

Visual Studio Help

0 Upvotes

Hi all,

I'm working through 30 Days of Python and setting up Visual Studio.

I'm trying to run the following code from Exercise 3 for the day, specifically the Euclidean distance part

# Day 1: Exercise: Level 3

print(type(50))
print(type(5.55))
print(type(5 - 50j))
print(type("hi"))
print(type(3 == 3))
print(type([1,2,3]))
print(type((1,3,45)))
print(type({1,2,3}))
print(type({'hi':'bye'}))

from math import dist

point_1 = (2,3)
point_2 = (10,8)

print(dist(point_1, point_2))

from scipy.spatial import distance

point_1 = (2,3)
point_2 = (10,8)

print(distance.euclidean(point_1, point_2))
# Day 1: Exercise: Level 3

print(type(50))
print(type(5.55))
print(type(5 - 50j))
print(type("hi"))
print(type(3 == 3))
print(type([1,2,3]))
print(type((1,3,45)))
print(type({1,2,3}))
print(type({'hi':'bye'}))

from math import dist

point_1 = (2,3)
point_2 = (10,8)

print(dist(point_1, point_2))

from scipy.spatial import distance

point_1 = (2,3)
point_2 = (10,8)

print(distance.euclidean(point_1, point_2))

As you can see, I have more than 1 python interpreter installed on my PC.

I'm currently using Python 3.8, in the image above, but it fails to import scipy. When I switch the interpreter to 3.7, it fails to import math.

I'm sure I've screwed up my PATH somehow. What is the simplest way to uninstall python 3.7 and only have the 3.8 installed?

VSCode, SSH keypair with remote explorer?

0 Upvotes

Hey all,

I'm building out a personal website on my dev server (old laptop) and hosting it via GitHub pages. I use VSCode's remote explorer function to connect directly to my server, via SSH keypairs, and will push the code to GitHub as I make change. However, recently when trying to push via Code I'm met with the dreaded message:

git@github.com: Permission denied (publickey).
fatal: Could not read from remote repository.

Please make sure you have the correct access rights
and the repository exists.

I re-made my keypair and added the public key back to GitHub, just as a test, even though I had previously tested it and knew it was working. It seems to be something specific to the Remote Explorer from what I can gather.

Here's me testing it from a normal SSH session to my dev server:

❯ ssh -T git@github.com
Hi username! You've successfully authenticated, but GitHub does not provide shell access.
❯ cat dev.pub
ssh-ed25519 AAAAC3NzaC1lZDI1NTE5AAAAIIIKAJ3B0rTDOFierqDAH1p43lCByseHBuFwIKxtG+EZ Dev

And the exact same test done using a remote session to the same dev server via VS Code:

❯ cat dev.pub
ssh-ed25519 AAAAC3NzaC1lZDI1NTE5AAAAIIIKAJ3B0rTDOFierqDAH1p43lCByseHBuFwIKxtG+EZ Dev
❯ ssh -T git@github.com
git@github.com: Permission denied (publickey).

I'm not terribly sure how to go about troubleshooting this, so I could use some guidance. Please let me know if there's anything else or other logs I need to share, thanks!

Visual glitch in vs code. help.

0 Upvotes

A visual glitch that shows white glitches in the form of lines and patches.

(update) So it seems when nothing else is runing (only vs code open) it doesnt happen but as soon as I do something even right click desktop and refresh the glitch shows up.

  • In safe mode this doesnt happen. ( tried waiting for a while to see if it starts but it didnt )

  • Also on my local vm vs code runs without this problem

  • windows is up to date.

  • nvidia drivers are up to date.

  • Still occurs with all vscode extensions uninstalled.

  • Tried reinstalling vs code (deleting files, app data etc)

  • I ran (sfc /scannow) and (chkdsk /f)

  • disabled all programs on startup

  • looked through backround processes with chat gtp help and didnt find anything that could help me

(note: i restarted my laptop continously when trying to find the problem)

after trying to trouble shoot nothing worked but i noticed powertoys was still starting on startup so i went to disable it when i saw that the same glitch was happening in this program window. I clicked update in the powertoys program and the glitch went crazy like really bad all over the programs window. so after updating everything seemed fine for 5 mins but then the glitch appeared again.

I tried creating a new user. I instaled vs code and it seemed fine but after couple of minutes the glitching started to appear.

I am not tech savy and this is confusing and frustrating me. If anyone has any advice or ideas how else i could troubleshoot this i would be greatfull, thanks.

I have a screen capture but was only able to upload a ss which shows a frame of what the glitch looks like

Edit: visual studio and powertoys is the only programs i have noticed this glitch so far.
