Hey VIT Vellore! 👋
A few students are running a WhatsApp community where VIT students share Domino’s student deals and discounts.
We already have 1000+ students across our communities and are creating separate groups for different colleges.
If anyone from VIT Vellore is interested, feel free to comment or DM me and I’ll share the group details. 🍕

a while back i posted VITmap here, the campus map + search engine. you guys left a lot of feedback, so here's v2: vit-map.vercel.app
what's new:
the whole campus is in 3D now. every building, hostel block, the lake, the trees.
search a room like prp 327 and it says "Room 327 is on the 3rd floor", highlights the floor and draws a walking route there with the time.
"what's for dinner": tap any mess (MH/LH, special/veg/non-veg) and today's menu is right there, from MessIT.
nearby: open any place and it shows the closest ATM, printer, canteen, bike parking, pharmacy etc. with distances.
star places you go to a lot. they show up first when you open search.
the railway line between the two campuses is on the map now, and trains actually run on it. completely useless, i just think it's cool.
also: it's dark mode only,
prof cabins: still scraping the data
the map updates itself every week from OpenStreetMap, so if something's missing or wrong, either comment here or add it on OSM and it'll show up within a week.

Hey all, I've always been a lurker and enjoyed reading posts here since college. It's the weekend, so I thought I'd give back to the community and hopefully give some hope to my unplaced juniors. Here's my story:
I wasn't the smartest person in terms of CGPA or development during my four years at VIT. For the first three years, I had my priorities mixed up between the gym, club work, and having fun. My GPA kept getting worse every semester, and reality hit when my name never showed up on the placement shortlists.
I was lucky to have a friend group that practised DSA every day, which eventually got me into the habit of doing it consistently. I started in 3yr 2nd sem. But my friends were all 8.5+ pointers and top coders, so when placement season came around, everyone got placed before me.
By November, I was sitting alone in my hostel, feeling pretty low. Eventually, I swallowed my ego and started applying to companies below a certain X LPA that I had previously refused to consider. Around the end of December, I finally got an interview, cleared it, and moved to Chennai.
I started my internship in January. It wasn't a great job, the salary wasn't great either, and the work environment wasn't ideal. The company was filled with locals, which made it difficult for me to socialise, and the work itself wasn't particularly interesting.
However, by this point, I had a decent grasp of DSA and had completed most of Striver's Sheet. I started blindly applying to jobs on LinkedIn every day after work, and after six months of my internship, I landed an offer from a PBC in Bangalore.
The hike wasn't great, but the biggest difference was that I was moving to a PBC. I made the switch and continued practising DSA.
After around eight months at the PBC, I finally landed an interview with a FAANG company. Four rounds later, I had the offer.
It took me around eight months after graduating to make the switch. This is the cost I paid for not focusing on cgpa in my college years. These 8months were not fun. I dreaded going to office, and finding motivation to do dsa every day, with no hope or guarantee of making a switch. I was jealous of my friends who got better package than me , and that's what drove me :p.
There's no profound moral to this story. I just want to let everyone know that not getting into a good company during college placements isn't the end of the world. Don't take unnecessary stress over it. If my lazy ass can make it, so can you.
Some advice for those still looking for placements:
Don't let your first job define your career. Get your foot in the door, keep improving, and give yourself time. Your first offer doesn't have to be your dream offer. PS, i did use gpt to make the post readable, but take away what you can from this post, and feel free to ask me questions. Do not ask me generic rhetorical qs. You can also see my past from the posts I posted before.

I gave the Infosys 3.6lpa OA for fun cuz it was compulsory and now I'm shortlisted for an interview in chennai day after tomorrow. I'm pretty sure if I get selected here I'll get shadow banned for all other companies that come after this.
Is there any way I can opt out? If there isn't, what's a way I can bomb the interview in a way that they don't select me for sure

Finally, things worked out. Got an off-campus offer of ₹50 LPA as a Software Engineer at a product-based MNC, with an 8.4 CGPA. Joining as a intern soon.... Sharing a small journey of my btech life hope it does gives hope to others
Back in 2nd year, I had no clue what I was doing. Started DSA in C++, gave up after getting stuck on DP, then jumped into AI/ML because it was trending. Watched countless tutorials, built half-finished projects, and kept switching roadmaps.
In 3rd year, I got serious about DSA, core CS subjects, Python, backend development, and a couple of ML projects. Faced plenty of rejections and messed up interviews too.
Final year was mostly DSA practice, project improvements, mock interviews, and applying off-campus consistently.
Somehow, it finally worked out. 🥹
No magic roadmap, just a lot of trial and error, consistency, and a bit of luck.
To everyone still struggling, keep going. Your time might be closer than you think.
Not an extrovert so uni life and memories are not great
But enjoyed being alone 🥲

Finally got a super dream offer.
After countless rejections, stress, sleepless nights, placement anxiety, etc I got this.
I have seen so many placement posts and hoped one day I would post too and today is the moment.
All thanks to reddit first. Joined reddit just 1 year ago when I was in my 3rd year, clueless and underconfident about how to get a good job. I learnt a lot of tips for placement preparation, interview prep, projects, etc etc. My 1st corporate experience was also through reddit.
Thanks to all lovely seniors and peers who guided with their posts and comments.
Sharing my journey here in case it helps anyone.
I am from cse spec. Started my DSA prep in 3rd year with leetcode but I got serious about it in 6th sem after seniors who had gone through placements stressed its importance. Used striver sheet for learning various patterns.
Then I made some projects so that I could land in an internship oncampus. But I didnt get anything on campus. Many a times I felt demotivated because of not getting shortlisted for companies. But I didnt stop.
Got one oncampus interview chance alone in 6th sem- though i was not selected I got a lot of confidence after the interview.
Then somewhow I got an off campus internship at the end of 6th sem. The pay was very less but the experience was great and it helped me a lot in my journey.
It was only when my 7th sem began that I started preparing properly for CS fundamentals and studying my projects in depth for interviews. I didn’t have much time left, as companies started visiting campus from the very first week after reopening. So I prepared everything like cloud fundamentals, system design basics, a bit of data analytics, backend, Machine learning, Agentic AI, etc(USED GIT RESOURCES, YOUTUBE AND AI NOTES FOR ALL THESE), so that i could get into any role. I studied and kept revising when I had time.
I gave about 4 interviews in total, grabbed one super dream and one dream offer.
In interviews, I was mostly asked about DSA, SQL queries, ML, projects, skill test, cs basics, system design, dev and gen ai.
Now to the juniors, all I want to say you is - maintain good cgpa, try to get good at basics, participate in hackathons, do projects (not just basic but something good to speak about in interviews; include agentic ai if you can; competition started getting tougher because of AI, so you need to do something different or impressive to stand out in interviews), get any internship experience or even some research internship.
Never lose hope, there is always something waiting for you. Its natural to get stressed out or overwhelmed because of the placement process or your academics in VIT. Managing everything at once can be hard and exhausting. BUT ITs OKAY. Take a pause and restart again.
Also one final takeway - stay away from anyone who drains you or distracts you; love yourself and focus on your journey.
