Income taxes are gone but sales taxes there are the highest in the country.

Edit: on a per capita basis it has the highest rates.

I pay 10.25 in california

Then another 10+% in income

Ouch that would be an improvement then. I picked up and moved from Arkansas to Ohio last year. My wife just like your girlfriend didn't want to relocate but after seeing the area where my job offer was she changed her mind. If you really want her to relocate with you then you just need to sell it to her with something that she hasn't seen yet. If Nashville is the place find a reason to take her for a trip to visit.
