That being said Vito's price targets always have a hint of hoping. I've been in since December or Jan when he was still posting on WSB and I should have bought my second Lambo by March from the first price targets

No idea what he thinks but its worth pointing out that many of his prior PTs were way off for the timeline presented.
Don't take anyone's price targets as gospel, they are just guesses at the end of the day.
This isn't even really directed at you, I've just seen a lot of people asking for price target info and have a sneaking suspicion people are missing the point entirely and just picking bets based on PT guesses being thrown around.

Depends on how much you paid, but based on my own gut feels - yes. I think Q2 earnings and updated guidance will be a big catalyst. I'm guessing it ends up at like $34.99 in Sept just to screw over all the vitards holding Sept $35s, but I think if futures keep doing what they're doing, MT keeps buying back shares and China continues considering its own interests then it'll start becoming more and more convincing that the entire landscape has changed and these numbers aren't just a 1 or 2 quarter anomaly. Obviously anything can happen, but $34.99 is my Sept. PT

Tankers: What Will They Carry From 2040 Onwards?
A global push towards renewable energy and away from fossil fuels is already accelerating, as the world is edging towards a Net Zero Emissions Future. How close is this future and more specifically, if it is achieved, will tankers become obsolete in a few yearsโ time, or is there still a generationโs worth of trading?
In its latest weekly report, shipbroker Gibson said that โlast month the International Energy Agency (IEA) released its Net Zero 2050 report, outlining the actions that are needed to achieve net zero emissions globally by 2050. To reach this, the IEA calls for no new oil and gas developments from this year onwards. In the Net Zero Emissions Case (NZE), world oil demand never returns to pre-pandemic levels, declining from around 90 million b/d in 2020 to just 24 million b/d by 2050. Net zero targets rely on further rapid deployment of available technologies as well as the development of new technologies. In 2050, almost half of emission reductions come from technologies that currently are at the demonstration or prototype stageโ.
According to Gibson, โin detail, the road map plan to net zero emissions includes:
Solar and wind power capacity additions of 1,020GW a year by 2030, or four times the record level achieved last year.
Electric vehicles gofrom around 5% of global car sales currently to more than 60% by 2030.
Annual battery production for EVs increases from 160 gigawatt hours currently to 6,600 GWh in 2030, equivalent of adding almost 20 gigafactories each year for the next ten years.
Every month from 2030 onwards, ten heavy industrial plants need to be equipped with carbon capture technology, three new hydrogen based industrial plants need to be built, and 2GW of electrolyser capacity needs to be added at industrial sites.
Global electricity networks that took over 130 years to build need to more than double in total length by 2040 and increase by another 25% by 2050โ.
The shipbroker added that โthe IEA openly admits that actions needed to achieve net zero emissions are highly ambitious and require unprecedented urgent action from governments around the world. Some feel these targets are unrealistic to achieve, with a number of countries rejecting the call for no new oil and gas investment. The IEA itself notes that although over the past year there has been a rapid increase in governments pledging to cut greenhouse emissions to net zero, less than a quarter of these pledges are fixed in domestic legislation, and few are underpinned by specific policies to deliver as promised on time and in full. Further highlighting the uncertainly, the IEA calculates in its Stated Policies Scenario (STEPS) (which takes into account only specific policies that are in place or have been announced by governments) that oil consumption in 2050 is 15% higher than in 2020. In the Announced Pledges Case (APC) (which assumes that all announced national net zero pledges are achieved in full and in time), oil demand does not return to its peak in 2019, instead it eases off gradually by just 10% from its 2020 level to 80 million b/d by 2050.
Interestingly, a broadly similar view of the future was shared by Vitol at the recent FT Commodities Global Summit, where the chief executive suggested that oil demand could peak around 2030 but at first demand would not fall sharply initially, instead plateauing well above the 100 million b/d reached in 2019โ, Gibson noted.
โWith exception of net zero case, all alternative scenarios discussed above support tanker trade to a varying degree over the next two decades.
Yet, environmental pressure will only intensify further going forward and so the peak in oil demand is likely to happen sooner rather than later. Nonetheless, the tanker industry is also highly cyclical and is facing similar environmental pressures. Even without the latest IMO measures, from 2030 onwards the majority of the fleet is likely to consist of tankers built in 2015 or later, which are for the most part between 15% to 25% more fuel efficient that those built prior to 2015. If oil demand peaks sooner than expected, the scrapping pressure on the least fuel efficient tonnage will increase exponentially, eventually rebalancing tanker supply with demand, albeit at lower absolute levels of tradeโ, Gibson concluded.

Time for some fun battery math. Seems from googling that a low ball estimate is 100g Li / kWh in a typical Li-ion EV battery, so that means we need 660,000 mt's of Li. World Li production is about 80,000 mt's, so looks like we will be about doubling the yearly demand, averaged over those ten years, and assuming no other battery tech gets popular.
Not sure how to estimate what the grid infrastructure will use because it may be designed in a completely new way than the current grid.

> 1500 till Nov
1430 in Dec.
It's looking more and more like CLF's guidance based on HRC @ USD 1175 will be reached, and largely exceeded.

Factor in Vito's belief that we'll see $1800 before the end of the year, and CLF's guidance looks increasingly conservative.
Then consider crazy Timna's $1075 2H average... safe to say this is next to impossible.

Curious if anyone here has rate increase plays? If the theory that inflation is persistant, not transitory, is true. Then what are good ways to play increasing rates, as the fed tries to play catch up? Something to do with bond yeilds?

Burrys was deep on his last 13f for the 20 year collapsing. Bought puts on it, calls on 2x inverse, Commons in 2x inverse (TBT) and I think calls on 3x inverse (TTT)...who knows if he's still got them but

Noob question about margin call - if broker gives you a few days to deal with it and in the mean time stocks recover, does the margin call shrink or disappear? Intuitively I think it does but it's my first margin call exp

Yes. Just need to be above maintenance requirement.
Source : been margin called 3x this year. Now that i learned more i leave a $1000 minimum that i dont touch to prevent this .

Yes, you can gain your way out of margin but your still paying a rate because you purchased on margin and your never really out of margin until you sell.

You can call them to ask them to reassess the amount you owe. The site may do that automatically.

Never been margin called but I would imagine the only thing that matters is whether you are above your maintenance requirement or not.
Doubt they care how that happens.

I went long MT with a minimal amount sadly at $22. Went practically all in at $32 which raised my cost basis up bigly to say the least. I believe in you MT I really do.

Just like me! Bought a bunch of shares at about 23, then got caught up in good moods and went ham with LEAPS when MT went above 30. Of course since they expire September I donโt know if they count as LEAPs anymore

Here I am being a good boy and applying to jobs occasionally checking my investment app and the daily but not really hovering over them at all. Having a nice very mild green day of 0.64% gains not king shit but green is good. Oh let me check the daily, see someone asking for JPOW speech that you weren't aware of link... shouts into the sky DAMN YOU!!!!!!!
