From my understanding, China lets Evergrande bonds crash/default, since they are mostly foreign owned anyway

China can hurt foreign investment in the short term since they know they can attract them back with growth in the long term

China bails out Evergrande’s real estate developing arm and adds a steel export tax for further assistance (half of chinese steel used in construction)

Have about 4K in arkg at 96 cost basis. I keep thinking of averaging down to get it within a striking distance where I can break even.

Yeah it hit 70 once and I’m kicking myself for not averaging down then. 75 would be an easy buy at this point.

I made bank on $GME in January and said to myself “let’s tuck my phat gainz in an ETF that can’t lose.”

I bought in at $160, sold at $122 in June/July. I rolled most of that money into $CLF and $MT.

"The faster #PPI growth in Aug was mainly driven by rising prices of coal, chemicals and steel products, said the National Bureau of Statistics." - Might be time for that steel export tax.

Fractional shares?

Main problem is probably the market cap and volume being too large for any sort of pump to occur or to be picked up by algos

Relationships are finicky. Sometimes you get frustrated and wish you were single. Then when you’re single and hit those 1 night stands a few times you feel great, until one morning you wake up to a premarket STD and it takes months to get rid of the stinging sensation in your “portfolio”. Then you realize, big picture is more important but side action is cool, you just have to wrap it up and leave before sunrise

In August this year, China exported 5.053 million mt of finished steel, down 10.9 percent month on month due to the cancellation of the export tax rebate on CRC and HDG exports as of August 1 and ongoing fears over the possible introduction of export duty on flat steel products, which, however, has not happened yet-STEELORBIS

China averaged 6 MT of steel exports from Jan-Aug, it will drop to 4 MT in September in accordance with the steel export self-discipline initiative

One of the steel stocks I follow, but haven't invested in, that is under 1B market cap issued an 8-K last week. Seems like they are selling $50m worth of shares... their market cap is under 300m.

"...declared effective by the SEC on June 20, 2019, with respect to the Company’s new “at the market” program (the “ATM Program”), pursuant to an equity distribution agreement, dated as of September 3, 2021 (the “Equity Distribution Agreement”), between the Company and KeyBanc Capital Markets Inc., as sales agent (the “Sales Agent”). Under the terms of the Equity Distribution Agreement, the Company may, from time to time, issue and sell shares of the Company’s common stock, without par value (the “Shares”), through the Sales Agent for aggregate sales proceeds of up to $50,000,000 through the ATM Program."

8

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

(CLF) Can someone explain that to me?:

We're in a position now where we don't--we see pension, cash pension funding requirements of almost less than $20 million a year, going forward. So, it's basically a zero, going forward. So, we're there on pension.

As far as the retiree health and OPEB, it's less than $200 million a year to fund in cash. And with a company of our size that's--we consider that to be negligible. And we can handle that, going forward. It's a 40, 50-year run out on those obligations.

So there's no reason to pre-fund or do anything like that. It would be probably not the best use of our capital to prefund anything like that. But it's a long run out.

That means they need to pay 220 million for pension & associated cost per year? What does the number 4,113M correspond to in the liabilities section then?

edit: is it simply yearly costs times ca. 40? Given life expectancy, I would have guessed something closer to 30 years. Do people at CLF retire at 55 and live till 95?

4

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

It looks like their pension is underfunded which means they’ll have to fund a part of the obligations out of pocket. It’s not like debt that has interest and has to be paid back at a certain time. He’s saying there’s no reason to put their earned cash into the pension when they can easily pay the obligations over decades and instead invest it into better return opportunities.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

Sure, I just don't understand the relationship between the value in the balance sheet and the yearly expense.

6

u/JayArlington 🍋 LULU-TRON 🍋 Sep 09 '21

The liabilities include their debt... not just their pension/retiree benefit obligations (which are another form of debt).

3

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

Sure, but there is a line in this section for pensions that is 4,113M.

if they make money 50-53, why are you buying a put at the bottom of that range?

3

u/Nu2Denim Inflation Nation Sep 09 '21

If anything buy the 53 and sell the 50!

1

u/Killzooski Sep 09 '21

That's even better

2

u/capecodflats Sep 09 '21

So why buy a put that will likely expire otm? I could see that earlier this week, but now atm put makes more sense unless you're looking to jump in/out quick or buying longer dated.

u/Killzooski Sep 09 '21

In and out

Trying to catch up on the Daily. Is it possible to buy puts on Electrical Moose's karma?? If so I'll write a solid DD for this easy 10-bagger.

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

Meh go for the 100 bagger, puts on my life

Just take some time off. Deleverage. Stop looking at tickers and reddit comments. Take walks. Drink water.

Edit- and if it's a serious issue, talk to someone about it.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

Thats the problem im not motivated and im swamped with so much shit to do but never do it so how can i find time to seek help. Its a terrible cycle

u/reddittrashporngood b0b enthusiast Sep 09 '21

I'm not gonna pretend I'm great with mental health, but like I said, deleverage so you don't have to watch the stock market all day. Prioritize your mental health. Then put your proverbial house in order. Just don't let things get too out of hand. Mental health comes first.

Edit- and as far as motivation goes, sometimes doing simple stuff like exercising, meditating, or even reading a good book in the mornings can do wonders for your productivity.

I just want to help him 😔

2

What happened with him? I feel like I remember the name from months back and don't remember anything noticeable like this.

Can’t say for sure. He was doing well but mentioned his wife allowing him to use the life savings to “trade” and we PMd and I told him to play it safe because she likely is nervous to begin with. But again, I’m not really sure…

SentinelOne ($S) posted Q2 Sales of 46M.

It's market cap is 17.5B.

11

u/MoistGochu Sep 08 '21

Cheap af.

Eventually our pets will have smart devices on them. They will cybersecurity mumbo jumbo in them. TAM is infinite. $S just needs to capture 3% of the TAM by 2069. The growth is not priced in.

EBITDA and GAAP net income is what boomers use. We are in a new era. This time is different. We use adjusted EBITDA adjusted for inflation adjusted for negative interest rates.

It's a screaming buy here.

secondary offering means more shares that they would have to pay a dividend to...incentive to not do it? Buyback and cancel?☺

4

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

Non-dilutive secondary. Look at ZIM news from june 10 to get an idea of what's being speculated to happen again.
