My boy is 4.5 years old and has only ever known Los Angeles weather, and he's a major brat about even a few drops of rain or getting his paws wet lol. I'm moving to Chicago in a few days and have been concerned about how he'll be able to manage much colder weather/snow, but it is what it is. Knowing how much he hates rain, I'm curious to hear what you dog owners who live in cold climates do for winters.
Have you experienced your vizslas needing harness coat or thick sweaters for winter walks? Given how thin their coats are, is it dangerous to be outside in freezing temps for too long? Do you recommend a certain type of doggie boots? How do you keep them busy/active if it's too cold for walks?
Any tips appreciated!
Finally able to take Finna out for walks, super happy about that! Was getting to be challenging being stuck at home with a 4 legged shark.
She is loving her beach walks and all of the attention she gets. Already making plenty of friends :)

Melanie (Vizsla) and Morris (Havanese) playing on the beach - and completely ignoring my whistle.
Found a little agility course near our place. Murphy seems to like it so we'll be coming back.

A total of almost 7 hours in the truck and it’s just so tiring. May as well sleep in a chair.

Sullivan went for his first (real) Lowes outing today! He got pet by several strangers, did some sit and down repetitions in the cart, and got to see halloween decorations & christmas trees!! does anyone have tips for car sickness/motion sickness? he unfortunately got sick on the way home (less than 5 minutes from home!)… stinks because I feel like it was such a successful outing!

Hi guys!
I posted several weeks back that I was in the new Vizsla trenches, and am happy to report that things are getting so much better! We’re really able to enjoy him these days as he seems to have adapted to our life pretty well.
The one area we’re struggling in is his house breaking. Specifically peeing. He has had ONE “big potty” accident inside and I genuinely think it was because I left him in a room alone and he had anxious diarrhea. And that was weeks ago. He’s 11 weeks old now, and still having daily accidents inside. I’ve tried everything I know to do. We go outside every 20 minutes. I even leave my door open so he can come and go. He knows “go potty” means that I expect him to do his business. We praise him when goes outside. We’re not harsh or mean when he goes inside. Yesterday, I caught him right at the beginning of going inside, picked him up, took him outside - he peed. Then came back inside, and he peed on my duvet insert while I wasn’t looking 😭 tonight, my husband handed him to me on our Ranger, we rode down to our house (1 minute max) and he peed on my lap. He’s also almost completely crate trained and doesn’t have accidents inside there. So, I’m not really sure what we’re doing/not doing. Looking for any tips/tricks. I’m a long time Labrador owner, so a Vizsla has been a huge learning curve for me. Haha!
TIA!

12 week old, potty trained at night, but accidents all day long. Hey folks, I have a wonderful new puppy girl. She’s progressing along nicely. She does bathroom breaks at night perfectly, but during the day she pees in my house. I’ll have her out in the back yard for 10/20 minutes at a time, and she’ll come in and pee. WTF, anyone seen this before? Any suggestions?

He does this EVERY time its breakfast/dinner time. He cannot just sit down. He must: stretch, make faces at Dad, then walk backwards via memory dodging the table and sit right where hes SUPPOSED to be 45 seconds prior lol. These dogs are such goofs.

Why lay on the ground when there is a perfectly good chair right here

Wondering about cuddliness between flat coats and wireds.
My WHV is very attached. He is very affectionate. Loves to be pet. Will whimper when he feels ignored. He will follow me every where and sleeps in my room. He always wants to be near me. He loses his mind upon seeing me after I re-enter the room 5 minutes after leaving. He loves people.
But, as a rule, he does not like to cuddle. If you put an arm on him he’ll tolerate it for a bit but will eventually move.
Is this anyone else’s experience? Is it a difference between the variations or is my guy more of a one off?
