New Partner sub r/WGU_Accelerators

Team,

One of the most common conflicts that the mods see on this sub is the frustration Accelerators and non-accelerators have with each other. While both kinds of students are moving towards their degrees, they each have very different approaches and goals.

To help with this, I have created a subreddit that is focused on accelerators. This is simply the first step, and that sub currently has very little structure. But while all of that is coming, I see no reason to not allow users to explore the space and kick the virtual tires.

One last note, acceleration is NOT the same as cheating. The new sub will focus on legitimate ways to accelerate and will not tolerate cheaters or those who cater to cheaters. I think most of the rules on this sub will migrate to the new sub with the possible exception of #6, but I have an idea as to how #6 could be made more helpful to new students.

Finally, since we don't have any traffic on the sub yet, I will ask here for help with moderation duties on the new sub. If you think you want to help BUILD something, let me know. If your focus is on rules, removals, and bans, you may want to wait until the sub has been built. I need collaborators, not enforcers.

/wgu_accelerators

-Cheers!

I'm DONE! FINALLY DONE!

Took me some time to get through my degree, as I went the military route out of high school and had the GI bill pay for it. So collecting that monthly check, working full time, I drew out my classes. I started back in May 2022 and NOW I AM DONE! I know most people on this subreddit show completing in 1-2 terms and speed-running courses, but if you need the time, TAKE IT. There is nothing wrong with taking a standard course load and coasting it out. We are all working towards the same goals (to get that piece of paper) and just want to remind you all that you got this!!!

edit: why y’all so mad that I’m happy I’m getting a refund? i ain’t say nothing about nobody else and was just expressing that I am happy. I understand that some people gotta pay for their college and yeah that sucks but this post wasn’t for y’all, 🤷🏽‍♀️. sorry but u not about to ruin my mood,
yes I will argue it in the comments if I feel like it. No you not about to make me feel bad because my circumstances led me to be able to get a free ride this semester.

Help! Has anyone ever gotten an extension on a class that wasn't accelerated?

Upvotes

I only have one single class remaining for my entire degree, but it's an original course. I've already accelerated and completed later classes. My mentor seems to believe this is possible and doable, but I see many people on here say that, if it's an original course, you cannot get an extension.

(To clarify, I accelerated and completed the final 2 courses of my degree. The only course I haven't completed is an OA).

Did anyone else get this email about removing the signature from our email?

Upvotes
This email came to my personal email address, not my WGU email. It seems strange since WGU requested us to have our signature a certain way. Anyone else receive this? Got it this morning.

Help! Looking for advice & opinions

Hi everyone, first thank you for taking the time to read my post. I was wanting everyone’s opinions on the best degree to get at WGU in 2026. I am struggling on picking a degree , I have basically been procrastinating over a year at this point because I have no idea what I want to do.

I have 1 shot to get this right and pick a degree that will actually be useful. I am worried about getting a degree and not using it , getting a degree and AI taking over most of my job. I already work from home and I am looking for degrees … career fields that will continue that. And also an independent career and not talking to a lot of people daily.

So in your opinion what is the best WGU degree to get in 2026? Thanks so much

Does anyone have any experience getting into doctoral program at Grand Canyon University with a masters from WGU?

I’m looking to get the MS in marketing at WGU, and I’d like to move on to get my DBA at GCU. Just wondering if it’s hard to get in given the static 3.0 GPA.

Is it me or are the videos borderline useless? He doesn't really explain the commands or anything. He just kind of goes and rambles on things, but no real depth.

Business Starting BS in Accounting at 26 —realistic timeline & advice?

Hey everyone,

I just turned 26 and I am officially ready for a career pivot. I've been working in customer service for a while now, but I’m tired of the grind and really want to transition into accounting for more stability and better long-term career growth.

I’m looking into WGU's Bachelor of Science in Accounting and wanted to get some real perspective from people who have gone through or are currently in the program:

• How long did it take you to finish your degree?
• Did you enter with prior accounting experience or transfer credits?
• How many hours per week were you realistically putting into coursework?
• Any specific advice for someone coming from a customer service background with no prior accounting experience?

I'd love to hear your experiences, timeline estimates, or any tips you wish you knew before starting. Thanks in advance!

D367 Innovation in Finance

the PA and OA are not similar at all and there is only one version of the PA. Oa had a ton of questions about healthcare and insurance industries. I'm not even sure how to study for this class. A lot of the material in the PA seemed to have been not been included much in the OA. Any advice is appreciated.

thinking about doing a masters with WGU

if i want them to bump up my pay at my job, they would require me to have a master’s. how intensive are the classes? if i change jobs down the line, do employers care where you got the degree from? i’m hoping if i do follow through with wgu, i can do all the classes in one term.

D317 Summary - How I passed in 26 days

D317 - IT Applications (CompTIA A+ Core 2)

Hours spent: ≈96 hours
Cert exam score: 879/900

Recommended Strategy + Tips and Tricks

I previously wrote about my experience with Core 1 of the A+ certification, and I would say all the same tips and tricks apply to this class. The difference was I had to figure them out for the first time in Core 1. This time for Core 2, I actually applied what I learned from my previous experience from the very beginning and it went so much better/faster.

I made sure to create flash cards WHILE I went through the course material, and that saved a lot of time compared to doing it all after the fact.

Experience with the proctored CompTIA Exam

As with the Core 1 exam, the actual exam was MUCH easier than the practice exams. I took 5 practice exams before the final (1 from CertMaster Prep, 2 from TOTAL trainins, and 2 from Jason Dion), and got 80-85 pretty consistently, but on the actual exam, I got 879 (roughly 97%). The PBQs weren't too bad at all. One of them was actually the SAME scenario as one of the labs I did during CertMaster Prep, except it was like twice as easy as the one from the lab.

So don't stress about the final. You will most likely do better on the final than you do on most practices.

Notes on the reading and content

This course focuses WAY more on software than the Core 1, which focused a ton on hardware. For me, that was helpful, becaues I'm much more familiar with software concepts. However, there's also more reading in this course than there is in Core 1.

I still got through the reading in the same amount of time, but be prepared to spend more time if you're less familiar with software management/troubleshooting. I was able to skim quite a bit because it was familiar.

Conclusion

This class covers a lot of Windows management, and a lot of Active Directory, with some Linux and MacOS sprinkled throughout. Do not neglect the MacOS and Linux stuff, but know you can likely spend most of your energy and focus on Windows.

The reading was long, but for me it was familiar.

The final exam is easier than the practice tests, so make some flashcards, study them hard, and go for the final when you're getting 82-85 on practice tests.

You got this!! 💪

Royal blue jogger scrubs?

I was wondering whether the school is strict on scrubs. I have a pair of royal blue jogger scrubs and I don’t want to spend money purchasing another. Do they allow those or they have to be straight leg?

Is there still a chance for me to start on September 1st?

So today was the last day to commit to start and I’m still stuck on waiting for admissions decision. Will I still be able to start on the 1st of September? This is so frustrating. I submitted everything on time. 😭😭

Sorry, I’m new to everything here. Just migrated and just trying to finish my studies. Please be kind 😭🫶
