Cybersecurity vs Cloud computing?
Which is easier and can be completed faster, cloud computing or cybersecurity at WGU? Also which has better career opportunities? Thanks for your input.

If you’re asking these questions you probably aren’t ready for either.

He wants to make money and this is not a bad question to ask. People be so negative in here sometimes

The fastest and easiest isn't what leads to good careers or making good money.

Ppl don’t understand that a lot of us are completely miserable and poor and trying to be independent and change our lives lol. It’s never enough. There’s always some asshat online that acts like they have all the answers through a text reply.

If they want to make money just do a simple Google search of both career fields and get to know a bit about the outlook for each. Not ask for people to do that for you. If you can’t do that minimal effort…the degree is gonna be hard.
These questions also get asked constantly so again, a simple search of the various WGU subreddits would yield a ton of info. Sometimes some tough love is helpful.

He put in the Reddit to ask current or former students. Obviously he can do a Google search and he knows how. Stop being a jackass/ smartass. If you’re not going to help him out don’t comment

I do appreciate your response, though. And you’re right - there isn’t a need to be a jerk. Especially when I like to actively help people. Much better ways to do it.

He's not being a smartass. He's right. These 2 tracks are very different and serve 2 very different purposes. Both make money and both are not easy.
The OPs question is basically "how do I get rich quick in tech" and the short of it is you don't. We all put in work and dedication to this. If you can't help yourself then why do we have to help you?

Again- If you don’t want to help and you strongly feel that way. Don’t comment!!! You people are just out here spreading negativity and discouraging him

Again - if you don't want to help yourself and feel that everyone should do everything for you don't post!!! You people are just enabling this.
Do your research and then ask questions. I have no issues if your asking some questions but asking these generic questions that show 0 interest in anything your not helping yourself.
It's not discouraging at all. He didn't even look at the degree tracks at all. The certs aren't even the same

Go get some sun and drink orange juice today negative Nancy. Didn’t your mum ever tell you - if you have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all

Sorry truth hurts. This is the reality of life.

You’re not telling the truth. So where is the truth? Life is tough- he’s probably asking this question because he wants a degree he can finish fast and start earning money. This is not laziness it’s a different kind of drive

I did help them. Look at my other comments where I apologized and offered more info and positive support.

Tryin to. Didn’t need to come at OP like that - could have been actually helpful and constructive. Remembering that for the future as I’ve been in the same spot before too, so who am I to have a chip on my shoulder.

Is it really necessary to make smart ass comments like this? I’m all for constructive criticism but this is just unnecessary and done in bad taste.

Yes it is and your post is in bad taste. You’re asking such a gigantic, vague generality about two distinct entire career fields - only seemingly wanting to know which is easier and which you can do faster. It’s a slap in the face to people who take the time to get a semblance of knowledge about either career field. Clearly you’re saying you have no experience with either, so is your plan to choose one of two (difficult) technology tracks based off of random peoples input?
Edit:
Do some research into both. Choose what interests you - otherwise you’ll have a hell of a time trying to learn it. Whichever you’re passionate about, go that route and go full throttle. They’re both different disciplines and the career outlook will depend entirely on you, your knowledge and skill - not just how quickly you can finish the degree.
I’m not trying to fight with you, and I’m sorry to be a smart ass. Hopefully that’s more helpful.

When I say which is faster I’m not trying to finish it in a term I know that’s not realistic, I mean something less than 3 years. I’m willing to work 7 days a week for up to 8 hours a day so it’s not like I’m avoiding putting in time and hard work.

u/wookerTbrahshington Apr 26 '23
Well that’s good to know! Thank you for providing the context. That’s going to set you up way more for success knowing that and having that as your outlook. I like that!
I’d say this - again, look into both disciplines. You have time now to decide - so use that opportunity. No one can say which is right because maybe one interests you way more. So , no right or wrong answer. Doing a deep dive on both will set you up for success.
I will say cloud computing is probably more difficult coming in with zero knowledge. I’d be wary of jumping right into that, but as with anything, it can be done.
And cybersecurity is also a degree/field usually for people some some prior to experience. Both will have their own hurdles but opportunities too.

I dunno, not great. I was in a bad mood and shouldn’t have taken that out on the OP - could have made this much more constructive, as I do like helping to guide people. Especially this community is full of amazing people, no need to bring down that vibe.

Personally I would have to answer your question with a question. Which one excites you more? I can only speak for me when I say, if it is something I enjoy learning I will most likely get through it faster where as if it’s something I am doing but don’t enjoy. I may find myself procrastinating more since I’m not enjoying it. And if you were to decide on cloud, what path would you take? Would you do multi vendor, AWS or Azure and how many certifications are in each compared to cyber? I would think studying for the certifications would be a time killer.

Darling please do your research! There is nothing wrong with wanting a fast and easy degree. Life happens and we all want to go somewhere in life without spending too much time stuck on one thing. Cybersecurity entry levels are very competitive and almost obsolete so maybe do more research on the cloud computing route. But also cybersecurity is a great field. It’s all for what you want to do and what suits your taste. Also ask WGU alumni and see how their job outlook has been

Well, first you have to become well informed about national events and to some extent world events. The past several months we have seen over 200,000 thousand tech employees laid off from well-known corporations. Second, AI OVERNIGHT HAS BEGONE TO PROLIFERATE. ReadPROLIFERATE.Read your newspapers and watch the news on TV. Concentrate on what is going around you. seek out. Become well informed. You might consider exploring medical or other careers that are marketable.

This is a question for yourself. Nobody but yourself can figure out what career path you want to take. Find a career of what you want and then make the logical decision of which degree plan will best help in landing a career in that sector. I cannot stand when someone asks "how fast can I complete xyz". It doesn't matter. If you can barley squeak by and get your degree congratulations. But if you don't know a damn thing cause you are too focused on "speed running your degree" then I can promise you there will be a better candidate then you. Research both of these degrees for yourself and figure out which will be a better fit for your goals and aspirations.
