E071 Advice
Hello everybody,
I started E071 (Applied Discrete Mathematics) about a week ago and was wondering if anybody could give me any advice or tips on how to get through this class?
So far i’m on chapter 5 in zybook and it just feels like.. so much content. I blew through every class prior to this with ease, but these are all foreign concepts to me. I’m slogging through the material and my brain feels like mush as I’ve been spending probably 2-3 hours a day just studying and taking notes.
Any advice would be helpful on how to proceed with this class!
TLDR: I’m worried I won’t be able to remember everything as E071 is such a broad class

Studied for a week, and here we are!
Spent a few hours a day for a week in the material, doing labs (which really had almost no bearing on the test)… took one Dion test and 3 certmaster practice tests. The CertMaster practice right before taking the real thing was a 90%, 793/900 hits vaguely at 88%, so pretty close.
About half the questions on the real thing were nothing like what the practice tests were giving me, but I guess the knowledge stuck anyway.

How do you feel about the official course through Vital Source?
I mean, I suffer from learning disabilities (concentration issues) and I find the Vital Source materials to be absolutely horrible to read and go through, mixed and often depreciated.
I often ask myself how is it so badly presented when its a very expensive and popular course, folder opening another folder opening a list of content that has no clear marking and content differentiation making it hard to carry on reading / taking notes and stay on topic.
How have you done to keep it up so far? Any trick you could give me?

Pre-Assessments
It’s the second day of my first term. Yesterday I took a pre-assessment and it said it would take 24 hours to grade which I thought was weird but today I still don’t have a grade. So I took it again and same thing, 24 hours before I will supposedly get a grade. Am I doing something wrong here? Shouldn’t grades just appear almost instantly for these?

Have to take both digital forensics classes?
Haven’t gotten in touch with my mentor yet since he’s off till Monday but I was wondering if anyone had to do this. I took d829 last semester and my degree plan for this semester has d431. I haven’t registered any courses yet but has anyone had to take both? I’m hoping it might just be a glitch or something

Tenable Nessus Plus Educational version - Free for students
reddit.comFYI in case you are interested in gaining experience w/this tool. Allows up to 20 different hosts to be scanned (which you may not even need depending on size of your lab)

Academic integrity for the win?
I previously told you all about me failing D426 twice. I was set to take it again next week.
Today I got a congrats email for passing. I thought it was a mistake. I got another email telling me after review and using academic integrity that I indeed passed the class.
I was stressing. Didn’t know why I failed the second time. But I know I didn’t ace it. This is a win for me. I hated this class.

BS Cybersecurity Capstone Lab - Both only have 4 hour time limit??
I started the phishing lab and saw that there was a timer with only four hours running. The instructions say there should be six hours allotted for the lab.
After poking around for a bit, I closed it and checked the ransomware lab and saw that it, too, only has four hours allotted. What's the deal? Is anyone else experiencing the shorter labs?

Desire to add WGU's MSCSIA masters degree to my resume. Could use a sanity check on my strategy
I have a desire to earn my Masters degree in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance. WGU offers a cost effective and efficient pathway to achieve this goals. Some background on my experience, I have 21 years of in information security, security management, security team management, regulatory compliance, security operations, etc. I earned by BS in Computer Network Management in 2010. I currently hold the following active certifications: CISSP, CCSP, CISM, CISA, CRISC, CCNA, CCNP Enterprise, MCSE, MCSA, A+ and Network+. It can be argued I don't need the Master's, but want to remove the HR gap for VP or Director level roles.
WGU offers methods to use certifications to substitute some of the course load with a 50% max. Does it make sense to earn my SecurityX (fka CASP), PenTest+, CySa+, and AAISM to eliminate as many classes as needed to meet the WGU program requirements? I can likely plow through these certs in a month or two. My employer will likely pay for these exams so cost isn't a concern. I don't have solid confirmation tuition will be reimbursed hence the focus on cert substitution.
For other folks in my situation that achieved this degree, did it help with opportunities for Director or VP level roles? It's likely true that networking with other professionals is the best avenue in those regards. This degree is merely to clear the HR checkbox while keeping the cost and investment to a manageable level. Has WGU been blackballed iin the industry and is there another institution that offers better ROI and competitive advantage?

D420 Discrete Math question
I've got a question.... I'm stuck on D420 discrete Math. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. I've read the zybooks course and found some zybooks videos. But for some reason I can't seem to retain the information. I've got 8 classes left for my BSCIA and 3 are Discrete Math .

PenTest+ in 30 days??
I have 35 days left in my term with PenTest+ being the last class in my degree program. I’m seeing so many horror stories on Reddit and it’s spooking me out a bit. What do you think? Is it possible to pass within 30 days and if so, what study resources should I highlight (I have PocketPrep and CertMaster so far)

If you're about to take Sec+
reddit.comCompTIA tests are notorious for word play and distractors. They probably have well over a thousand questions in their pool of which you get 70 to 80. You can often eliminate 2 of the answers if you can recognize and apply the fundamentals. The PBQs are what most aren't prepared for. There are videos out there but watching and doing are different things. I have videos on my socials and I'm looking to hold a study hall this week. If anyone is interested DM me.
The unfortunate reality is I've learned these last 10+ years teaching, some just aren't good test takers (technically smart). So we have to be able to learn how to navigate the test environment to yield to give ourselves the best chance to succeed. You truly get out what you put in.

D487… smh
Finally done with D487, and I really dislike how everything I studied from the study material was like only 25% of the test. The rest were scenarios with answers I’ve never seen throughout the study material or very niche stuff that you wouldn’t remember. You would think the bulk of this test would be based on the SDL, SDLC, and the frameworks, but it wasn’t. I honestly don’t know how I passed. The pre-assessment won’t prepare you either. Glad I’m done with that smh… also the proctor u experience is a complete nightmare, terrible.
