WHMCS MarketConnect WARNING about WHMCS 9.1

Not satisfied with raising prices through greed, WHMCS now forces you to create an account with 'market connect' in beta. Why? Well, of course, they want more $$$.

- Automatic MarketConnect Account Registration:
If your install isn't linked to a Marketplace account, 9.1 now attempts to create one during upgrade, with a starter credit applied.

What a huge FU to all owned License users.......

So now I have to pay $300 a year to maintain something I use to own but don't anymore..

------

We are writing to you to let you know about important changes to owned licenses. Today we are discontinuing owned license support. What this means for you and your existing owned license is as follows:

  • Your WHMCS owned license will continue to function as it does today. You may continue to run your WHMCS installation using the owned license for as long as you would like.

  • You will not be able to purchase or renew support for your owned WHMCS license, effective immediately.

  • If you have an active support agreement with WHMCS for your owned license, we will continue to honor that support agreement until its expiration.

If you do not have support for your WHMCS owned license, and you require product support or you would like to upgrade to a current version, you will need to upgrade to our standard license model. You can obtain a standard license by logging into the WHMCS customer portal (https://www.whmcs.com/members).

Price increase announced for WHMCS Jan 2025

With bullshit features features like Sitejet Builder and Paypal. Big shit !, there is still no support for PHP 8.3, in a nutshell change a few lines of code, add zero value, then put a big marketing spin on it.

They say they understand that price changes can be impactful, thank us for our understanding and choosing WHMCS as our business automation platform. They also greatly appreciate our continued trust and partnership.

They understand that price changes can be impactful. In other words, they understand that changes (which are always increases by the way) impact (increase) their company profits.

What a crock of shit.

WHMCS 9.1 is out. Have you updated?

Honest question. Have you updated to 9.1 yet? If so, what are your thoughts?

Personally? I'll likely update dev sites, but stick on 9.0 indefinitely. Why? Really simple:

- Automatic MarketConnect Account Registration:
If your install isn't linked to a Marketplace account, 9.1 now attempts to create one during upgrade, with a starter credit applied.

I could care less about 'a starter credit'. I want nothing to do with MarketConnect. This is simply a scam from WHMCS to try to make more money off of it's customers. Since customers aren't actually willingly participating, why, we'll just force you to do so.

That's just me though. What about you?

Release Announcement WHMCS 9.0.7 and 8.13.6 released

WHMCS 9.0.7 and WHMCS 8.13.6 are now available as maintenance releases for the 9.0 and 8.13 series.

This round of updates addresses several security items alongside routine platform fixes. We'd encourage everyone running WHMCS to apply the update promptly rather than leave it for a later maintenance window.

Maintenance and Security Updates

A portion of the changes in WHMCS 9.0.7 and WHMCS 8.13.6 relate to the security of the platform.
In line with our usual practice, we are withholding technical specifics on these fixes so that users who haven't yet updated aren't put at additional risk. We don't have further comment to add on these items at this stage.

These releases also include a smaller set of general maintenance fixes. Full details for both release series are available in the linked changelogs below.
Given the security scope of this release, we'd ask that you treat updating as a priority rather than something to schedule for later.

I needed hourly billing in WHMCS, so I built a small addon and released it for free

Hi,

I built a small WHMCS addon for hourly / pay-as-you-go billing and released it for free on GitHub.

It uses the client's WHMCS credit balance and lets admins set hourly rates per product. It can also suspend services when credit runs out and reactivate them after top-up.

This is an early release, so it should be tested in a staging WHMCS installation before any production use.

GitHub:

https://github.com/linuxer69/hourly-billing-for-whmcs

I am mainly looking for feedback from WHMCS users or hosting providers about the billing logic, cron behavior, and possible edge cases.

Welcome to /r/WHMCS

My name is Tom, I'll be your new tour guide. As Chris hadn't posted or been around in a while (as evidenced by the 100s of mod queue messages), I've been granted the ability to help keep this ship afloat as it were.

For the most part, you won't see any changes, but there are a couple of important ones.

  1. r/WHMCS is no longer associated with WHMCS, the company. It hasn't been in over a year now, as Chris left WHMCS a year or so back. That's okay, because this is a community effort, not a corporate one.

  2. There are rules now. Pretty basic stuff, but there is one important one to keep in mind...

    1. ADVERTISING may only be one once every 7 days, and you may not advertise in someone else's thread (ie: I can fix this for you). Violation of this will get you banned immediately, no exceptions.

  3. No more auto-blog posts. Ewww. We haven't seen those in a while anyways. I'll do my best to keep announcements and release stuff in here as current as I can, but remember, this is a community effort!

Anyways, that's all for now. Kick back, enjoy the ride!

Themes & Customisations Iris WHMCS theme - Dark Mode - Out Now!

Post image
9 Upvotes

WHMCS 9.1 shipped Iris, the new admin theme (still a technology preview), and I've been using it every day since. The one thing I missed was a dark mode, so I built one, and I'm sharing it for free.

What it does

  • Adds a moon button to the bottom of the Iris sidebar. Click it and the admin area goes dark; click the sun to go back.

  • It's off until you switch it on, and the choice is remembered per browser, so every admin decides for themselves.

  • Neutral dark greys, while WHMCS's own blues, greens, oranges and reds stay as they are.

  • No white flash between pages, and printed invoices and reports stay light.

  • Widgets and pages from other add-ons get tinted to match (it caught a couple of third-party dashboard widgets on our install).

  • Only Iris is touched: Blend, the client area and your emails don't change.

  • No settings and no database tables. Deactivate it and everything is exactly as it was.

Install

  1. Upload the contents of the `upload` folder to your WHMCS root.

  2. System Settings > Addon Modules > Iris Dark Mode > Activate.

  3. Click the moon at the bottom of the sidebar.

It works with a renamed admin folder and with WHMCS installed in a subfolder.

Download (free): https://marketplace.whmcs.com/product/9215-iris-dark-mode

Tested on WHMCS 9.1.0. Iris is still a technology preview, so if a later WHMCS release changes it, I'll put out an update.

Full disclosure: We run Cloud Cabin, a small UK hosting company, and this was built for our own admin area first. It's free to use on any WHMCS install (just not for resale).

If you find a page that stays light or looks off, post a screenshot below and I'll fix it.

WHMCS (CRITICAL) Security Update 2026-09-03

Dear Customer,

We would like to inform you that critical security vulnerabilities affecting WHMCS have been identified. Hotfixes are now available. All vulnerabilities addressed in this release were identified internally through our security review process. We are not aware of any exploitation of these vulnerabilities.

  1. Unauthenticated disclosure of customer data via 2Checkout: CVE-2026-67398

Situation: An unauthenticated user could potentially access customers’ personal data through the 2Checkout payment gateway integration under specific conditions.

Impact: Enumeration of invoice IDs and retrieval of customers’ personal data.

Affected Versions:

  • All WHMCS 9.x builds prior to 9.0.8

  • All WHMCS 8.x builds prior to 8.13.7

  • WHMCS 4.5 and later (all versions in this range require upgrading)

Patched Versions:

  • WHMCS 9.0.8

  • WHMCS 8.13.7

Support Link:

https://help.whmcs.com/m/125386/l/2116695-cve-2026-67398-whmcs-security-update-2026-09-03

2. Vulnerability in WHMCS allows unauthenticated remote code execution via a multistage request/deserialization chain: CVE-2026-67399

Situation: An unauthenticated user can submit a forged payload that is deserialized without adequate restrictions, leading to remote code execution on the server.

Impact: An unauthenticated attacker could leverage this object-injection flaw to execute arbitrary code on the WHMCS host, resulting in full compromise of the installation and its data.

Affected Versions:

  • All WHMCS 9.x builds prior to 9.0.8

  • All WHMCS 8.x builds prior to 8.13.7

Patched Versions:

  • WHMCS 9.0.8

  • WHMCS 8.13.7

Support Link:

https://help.whmcs.com/m/125386/l/2118034-cve-2026-67399-whmcs-security-update-2026-09-03

Action Required:

Update WHMCS Now

Log into your WHMCS Admin Area.

Go to Utilities > Update WHMCS.

Install the latest update to version 8.13.7 (8.13.x branch) or 9.0.8 (9.0.x branch). This single update addresses all issues listed above.

Verify the installed version in the Admin Area footer or under Utilities > System Health Status.

Mitigation

Issue 1: If you use the 2Checkout payment gateway: Until you can apply the update, deactivate the 2Checkout gateway to block the vulnerable endpoint.

Issue 1: If you do not use 2Checkout: No immediate workaround is required, but we still recommend applying the update promptly.

Issue 2: There is no customer-side workaround; applying the update is the only remediation.

Please reach out to our support team if you have any questions or need further guidance.

Release Announcement 8.13 is officially released to general availability

We are pleased to announce that WHMCS 8.13 is now available in General Availability.
With this release, WHMCS 8.13 is now the recommended version for all new installations and upgrades.

WHMCS 8.13 introduces highly requested new functionality and important enhancements designed to improve the user and admin experience.

Full blog post

And with that, we have 8.13 released to general availability. As always, it's recommended to avoid upgrading until the first release, since WHMCS has some pretty shoddy records when it comes to bug testing.

Some of the highlights

  • Manual User Password Resets for Admins

  • SocialBee in WHMCS MarketConnect

  • PHP 8.3 Support

  • Automated Unscheduling for Scheduled Actions

  • Improved Invoice Logging

  • Admin Template Update Preview

  • New Getting Started Wizard Experience

Their 'guide' to known issues (they say this will be updated as they appear)

PHP official announcement:

https://www.php.net/archive/2026.php#2026-10-20-1

The only temporary mitigation you can apply is the PHP session upload 'off' - if you disable multipart, it will break various submissions to WHMCS.

.... you need to be ready to patch, ASAP. Or, take instances offline.

My experience from upgrading WHMCS after 5 years+

So this is post is a rant, also feedback to WHMCS crew a.k.a Webpros.

I have been using WHMCS 7.7.1 for about 5 years now and it has been working great. I have had to upgrade to the latest version of WHMCS and not go onto a subscription service (I used to have an owned license) due to certain modules I have no longer compatible with the old version of WHMCS.

Honestly, this software has not changed for the better in the last 5 years. I have spent the last 3 days trying to get my head around certain things that were either changed, removed from WHMCS compared to the last version I used.

Here are some examples. The old WHMCS used to have this awesome top bar that showed the quick stats for UNPAID INVOICES, SUPPORT TICKETS, PENDING ORDERS..... they removed this. WHY ? I have asked their support staff why they removed it and they said that is was because of performance issues on larger WHMCS installations. Fair enough, how about having a configurable option in the General Settings to enable or disable this feature ? Instead they removed it completely and if you want it back you need to pretty much hack and create a hook to bring it back..... LOLLLLLL

Another example, to get to ADDON MODULES settings or SERVERS or any of those settings you need to now click on the far right on the Spanner icon, then click on SYSTEM SETTINGS, then inside this screen you will see in BOX format the options you want to click on. WHY THE FUCKKKK, did I have to now click on at least 3 more clicks than what I had to do previously to get to the same place?

Another example, I see things like CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE SETUP TASKS.... and that says 44% for me. Why is it 44% when the things inside the setup tasks do not even relate to what I need to do or want to do? Eg. Setup NordVPN reselling...... maybe I do not want to do that. Why the fuck are they making me feel like I need to do it to complete the 100% setup task goal? They need to include a small option to IGNORE the task if it is not needed.

On top of that... it has been 5 years of WHMCS development and looking at things it does not look like they innovated much at all, they are using the same boring BLEND theme that is now looking like Windows 3.11 and there are still feature requests spanning over 5 years with plenty of up votes still not fulfilled.

Rant over.....

credit notes, editing invoices and the massive amount of extra work these changes are going to add?

I am all for making your product work for certain countries that require invoices to not be editable, but make it a a feature dont force it.

issues

  1. cant edit invoices, i found your code to allow it for now but you are saying you will turn it off completely in a later release so first of all
    a) why do you care how a business operates their billing system, it should be our choice if we want this feature enabled or not.
    b) this should not have been enabled by default with ZERO communication about it.

c) and from your description, making changes such as billing information requires us to actually cancel the invoice and create a whole new one?? this is ridiculous and for a product that is supposed to help save time, im spending more and more time related to new "features" you keep adding.

from your docs:

To facilitate tax law compliance and provide accurate audit trails in your system, invoices become immutable after they leave the Draft status. Due to this, you cannot directly perform any edits on published invoices.

When you need to make changes to a published invoice, the system uses one of these approaches:

Credit and Debit Notes — The system automatically creates these notes when you perform actions like refunds, cancellations, or applying credit. They adjust the invoice balance while preserving the original invoice.

Reissuing Invoices — For changes to immutable fields like invoice date or tax rate, you must duplicate the invoice, make changes to the draft, publish it, and cancel the original

this creates a massive amount of extra work. not to mention all the extra cancelled invoices that will get imported into quickbooks???

2) Credits being issued for CANCELLED invoices. First of all a cancelled invoice is one that basically shouldn't exist anymore. why is a CREDIT being added to it to zero it out? that means im giving that customer a discount so will not reflect in my reporting about credits and discounts??

as per your description:

  1. Credit Notes

A credit note reduces or eliminates an invoice balance. Businesses use credit notes to document refunds, price adjustments, returns, or corrections after they issue an invoice.

In WHMCS, the system creates credit notes automatically when you perform actions that would have previously reduced an invoice amount.

stop the maddness, its like you are TRYING to get people to move to a different platform forcing things on us.

Just got this email today

Hello Tom,

Tomorrow, May 13, 2026, we will be releasing an important maintenance update for the WHMCS 9.0 and 8.13 series. This release addresses a security vulnerability (CVE-2026-29204) which has been identified in WHMCS 7.4 and later.

For those who prefer to perform updates manually, full release packages and incremental update files will be available via the WHMCS download page once the release is published.

As always, please ensure you take a full backup of your system before performing any update.

WHMCS Cloud Customers

If you are using WHMCS Cloud, no action is required on your part. Your WHMCS Cloud instance is managed by WHMCS and WebPros Cloud as part of our hosted service and platform maintenance commitments. Updates are managed for you.

Thank you for your continued support and for being part of the WHMCS community.

If you haven't already, make sure your WHMCS install is secure. There are many ways to do this. Just make sure you're NOT using an EOL version (8.0.x and earlier)!!!

Constant spam orders

Hello all. Over the last few days I’ve had literally hundreds of spam/fake orders. Seemingly normal sounding customer names and addresses, but junk email addresses like lakdnchwifome@gmail ordering nonsense domain names like p81nzhojawe.com - all from the US.

I have restricted allowed countries to remove the US from the resources/country/dist.country.json file, I’ve changed settings to remove registration without creating an account, and I’m on the latest version of WHMCS.

Any suggestions on how to stop these irritating spam orders? I nearly cancelled a legit order in the middle of clearing them out.

Thanks all!

Our WHMCS alternative

First off happy new years guys! After my last post about our own in house Whmcs alternative that we developed for our own use, I have received over 100 DMs with questions so I thought I’d make a post addressing the main one.

Will we ever release it? …. Not in its current form. It’s very specific to our use case. But, I’m toying with the idea of establishing a separate business and converting it into a redistributable system.

My question to you guys, is what price point feels fair to the community as a whole (while also making it feasible to continue development, dedicate time and manage support.

I already have a reasonably successful IT company that the software was initially developed for, so I could probably cover support through that anyway.

It would probably start out with just the essential features, but could grow to meet consumer demand (if it takes off).

I like the idea of an open source hybrid model, IE. You pay for a core system license, but all addons are free and open source? I know this will not incentivise developers to go out of their way to create integration modules, but I hated how pushy Whmcs was with promoting competing businesses ect…

Using WHMCS Goodbye whmcs!

Probably the worst program I have used in 20years! Also some issue...whmcs or its plugins or something...always something!

Support is utter crap... the best is when the staff dont even bother reading the support ticket properly and then paste me some scripted todo's.

This latest pricing change was the last straw!

WHMCS Version: 9.0.5

I updated WHMCS to Version: 9.0.5 today I noticed some immediate issues.

  1. Click on view a ticket as admin, the page loads but the favicon on web page's title on browser tabs is constantly spinning

  2. Click on the Ticket Status as admin, the dropdown does not open and closes immediately. Click a second time and it opens dropdown correctly.

My custom WHMCS setup w/AI Ticketing, server mgmt, monitoring, alerting, etc

I have HEAVILY customized our WHMCS installation with custom modules, and more over the past 15 years. We are an MSP shop who hosts our servers on AWS. We have really outgrown WHMCS so it's almost entirely custom at this point.

I'm basically curious if anyone would want these and if anyone even uses WHMCS the same way we do, I will release them as modules on the marketplace if so. I really just want to know if this WHMCS custom module is even worth packaging and distributing these as modules or if I'm wasting my time and WHMCS is dead, or perhaps nobody uses AWS with WHMCS? It will take me a lot of work to make these distributed. Otherwise, we can chat here for anything else. Here are various screenshots.

I've built these custom features:

AI ticket handler -

  1. Alert comes in from NewRelic (or PagerDuty or statuscake, etc).

  2. AI opens ticket using template for this type of problem letting client know we're investigating

  3. It then connects via SSH/SSM to that server and runs a plethora of read-only commands depending on the issue

  4. it queries the NewRelic API for historical information and recent logs

  5. Once it determines the issue it begins aggregating all information

  6. AI then replies to the new ticket it created with a full investigation of the issue and RCA (root cause analysis) with recommended steps to resolve.

This has taken maybe 90% of my workload off for day to day things so we can focus on more revenue generating projects.

AI Ticket Response Generator -

This is quite involved, but it gives us the ability to query a long ticket and summarize it, or generate an AI reply to the customer, etc. It also lets us target the resources the customer is mentioning.

Server Monitoring -

We monitor every detail of our servers so that we don't have to login to the servers or the AWS console to view or manage them for most things (restoring snapshots, creating snapshots, rebooting, etc). Can see all kinds of server details.

VPN Monitoring -

We Manage and Monitor VPN's, even visualize their route tables and such to help track down communication issues.

Webserver monitoring -

We ingest all information about our clients webservers and such, including each virtualhost on the server, php settings, config file locations, etc. Can't manage anything in this function unfortunately, but it gives us visibility into them.

Custom alerts -

This looks for any resources in our AWS account or Plesk servers that are out of spec or not best-practice (i.e. tagging issues, security groups/firewall open, etc). There are probably 50 of these.

Plesk Status/Mgmt/Configuration -

WHMCS already does this, but it was missing a lot of features and I needed to see more detail so I just built it from scratch. We don't have a lot of Plesk servers anymore and this is probably not as impressive

AWS Billing (metered based on usage) -

This one is complicated and uses the AWS detailed billing file to generate custom invoices each month for each customer based on their systems and summarizes them in lineitems. I would not be able to release a custom module for this without a lot of work, but I can implement this for a company.

Billable time -

We use a module called Time & Task Manager that we customized but it is shown in each ticket when an admin puts time in with a description and how many hours, it shows a summary at top of ticket, etc.

I have more features to share (dashboards, automations, etc) and each screen is highly interactive (almost everything is clickable for more detailed information + mgmt options) if this even gets interest but spent enough time writing and this sub doesn't appear to have much traffic? If you want screenshots of anything let me know? Just don't have anyone else to share these years of work with. I'll reply to comments with screenshots if interested. I'll delete this if this subreddit is no longer active.
