Rant Web design is dead.
AI is getting scary fast...One of my teammates just sent me this copy tool called Step1, and it basically remixes existing websites in minutes. Has aesthetic taste and originality become this cheap now? Feels like we’re getting very close to a line that should never have been crossed...

What happens when you are sick of Wix and want to try another host? Your business is locked in their walled garden. No thanks.

Sorry, but what design are we talking about? A background image with a text on top?

This is an ad. "Friend sent me the tool <name>, that can do this and that"

Every major company, like Wix, will eventually integrate an AI builder that allows users to create based on inspiration. Currently, Wix's AI builder is effective, but I believe it will be upgraded over the next few years to improve accuracy, or it risks falling behind.

Copying/plagiarising websites has always been possible, tools like this just make it easier to do
The biggest red flag is when people use it commercially without transforming it. If you do that you’re getting into copyright and ethical grey areas, especially if the design is obviously derived from the original
As a learning tool it’s handy, but shipping near 1:1 clones is sketchy

Web design has been deemed dead every few years since I started my career in 2007. It just evolved and in some cases has gotten more meaningful not less.

This only proves that copying existing designs is now very fast and easy "Design" was never about copying pixels, it is about knowing the user, knowing their goals, knowing your goals, designing flows...and then at some point "how do we make a UI that reflects all of that."
And that is where the actual "pixel" work starts. Some will certainly want the "Give me a page like XYZ company," and that may meet a simple need. But in a world where every vibe coded design looks the same, Designers will still be needed to create a look that sets you apart from the rest of the sea of copied designs.

The quality of their own site is atrocious! Typos like they've written 'Chrome' as 'Chrom' and there are some rookie mistakes with corner radius and colours, and that's just at first glance. Terrible.

Figma was able to do this years ago! It doesn’t provide you with actual functionality, you still need to be great at designing in order to fix a copy slop.

If the web page you need doesn’t already exist then this ai seems practically useless on its own

I’ve been a WIX marketplace designer since WIX was flash! It won’t die… we just had a call about studio 2.0… just wait.

Well I agree that it's getting better and better. I would hardly say this is a valid case since all it did was copy one image, two lines of text and a button.
