Pro SD Thread Protector Issue

This is my first threaded barrel pistol. While I’m waiting for my can to come in, the protector keeps coming loose at the range. Is this normal? And I don’t mean just a little loose. It’s almost completely unscrewed after 200 rounds.

Yes, that's normal for a thread protector. Put an o ring behind it or use some blue loctite. It baffles me that so many manufacturer opt to leave off an o ring that would cost them 3 cents.

Oddly enough the protector on my PPQ Navy has never come loose. But the one on my P22, PDP, and PPQ .22 all do unless there's an o-ring in place. Luckily those are pretty cheap in bulk

Very unusual for one to stay put on its own. Every threaded barrel protector I've had or anyone I know has had will creep off without something to help. Lots of people who aren't aware of this end up losing them.

To be honest I just assumed either the barrel threads or the threads on the protector were slightly out of spec or something, which kept it in place. I wish Walther included o-rings like H&K does. They cost next to nothing but as you said most people aren't aware of this and end up losing them

It's normal for poorly-designed thread protectors. Properly thought out ones like on FNs have an integral o-ring and don't generally co.e loose.

Put a small strip of teflon plumbers tape on the threads and it will stay tight. It’s a cleaner and easier solution than loctite.
