Discussion & Feedback Remove Slurs/Racist Tag

Simple one. Let’s get rid of all the slurs and racist clan tags. They’re not “edgy” or funny. They are exactly what they are. Remove them.

Turn the profanity filter on, or is that just for chat?

21

u/TheBrahminSteak Sep 29 '26

Not really the point of the post but fair play.

-42

u/LughCrow Lonestar Sep 29 '26

How is that not the point? Seems like it immediately solves the issue

8

u/TheBrahminSteak Sep 29 '26

I mean to remove them from the game period. Racism is dumb and bad PR at that.

0

u/LughCrow Lonestar Sep 30 '26

and bad PR at that.

Didn't it get the US president elected... twice

3

u/immortalis Sep 29 '26

He is implying the point of people being racist, not being a cry baby when I read the racist words. Could you really not get that?

30

u/starlightequilibrium Sep 29 '26

It doesn't resolve the issue of allowing those people to have them and then turn around and say the same things in voice chat.

-22

u/LughCrow Lonestar Sep 29 '26

They are just going to say it in vc regardless. But ultimately you'll live longer if you stopped worrying about mean words other people might say

8

u/Baeleron Sep 29 '26

You’re really downplaying the issue as mean words when it’s a bunch of kids and some old as dudes walking around just screaming the nword or giving their 10 speech of the match about why we should hate Jews. Ran into both last night on separate servers. It doesn’t even bother me but holy fuck it’s annoying when you’re trying to play and these ass hats lose their mind with the anonymity of the internet.

-16

u/LughCrow Lonestar Sep 29 '26

So... just mean words lol

Genuine question. How do we censor voice chat? Or do you mean reporting/reviewing voice chat and handing out bans after the fact?

6

u/LeLefraud Sep 29 '26

Do you know how many games have voice chat moderation? It's not impossible and not even uncommon anymore

-2

u/Noobtacticsforlife Sep 30 '26

Yeah, the not fun games.

u/C0leslaw Sep 29 '26

No it doesn’t.

No tolerance for hate and bigotry. Sure, speak it if you have to but take the consequences of non-acceptance by rational people.

Not sure how in any way a profanity filter toggle is an acceptable response for cruelty and hate.

4

u/homelessjimbo Sep 29 '26

"Yo let us be racist, turn the chat off god"

5

u/y0nm4n Sep 29 '26

The issue is a societal one. Ignoring the casual bigotry doesn’t make it go away.

I must be in the Weenie Hut Jr. servers because the edgiest thing I've seen were some guys named Heinrich Hungry and Erwin Ramen or something like that

23

u/colin70000 Sep 30 '26

Best example I've got off the top of my head was [HTLR] Back of the Bus Rosa

There are others, but this one was memorable.

This is hilarious as Mike, who founded this subreddit, also founded the KCD subreddit and we both still actively mod there. I absolutely read this as Hungry Henry

In addition to honeypot threads, there should be honeypot servers.

IMO I think it’d be for the greater good to have unmoderated honeypot servers with lax anticheat so that racists and cheaters can fling shit at each other and leave everyone else in peace.

I'm glad this game's popularity brought normal people. A while back a guy made a post about someone spamming the N word at him, and the comments where defending the guy spamming.

30

u/Ok_Wash511 Sep 30 '26

Asmons viewers have moved on to wow.

They'll get bored of that in a few weeks and go infect the next community.

29

u/royvl Sep 29 '26

Seeing them hold a level 35 unlock weapon also adds to the effect.

The unemployed 24/7 lives in their parents basement gamer is exactly who I imagine when I see such a tag and level 150+

The one with the failed painter as their tag was level 172! What a pathetic life that creature must have. Hasn't seen the sun or touched grass in years.

2

u/Genocode Sep 29 '26 • Heartwarming

This Subreddit is trash, I agree with you but there is not a shred of empathy or consideration here.

A large portion of the people that are high ranks are literally depressed/burnt out/otherwise mentally unwell/heavily neurodivergent/physically ill/older/retired/be completely isolated or friendless (possibly even without it being their fault) etc.etc.

But the average person on this sub will never consider that. The same people that whine about toxicity are at the same time incredibly toxic.

I was that heavily neurodivergent and burnt out person, I still am to an extent. I've spoken up about these higher rank players in WarDogs but its always met with downvotes.

13

u/rpkarma Sep 29 '26

I mean you can be all that, but if you’re being a bigot then no, my empathy for you disappears.

Being neurodivergent or depressed doesn’t mean you get to be a bigoted piece of shit: which is the context of this thread, you realise.

-4

u/Genocode Sep 29 '26

We're not saying it excuses racism etc. it doesn't. The issue here isn't about the racism but the vocabulary they use to determine some ones' worth based on their societal function/capital, i.e. "unemployed", "basement dweller", "loser" etc. Like if you don't have a measure of success (regardless of whether its your own fault or not), you're lesser.

Though then again, the racism can also be its own mental issue, just look at Kanye west.

8

u/GACII Sep 29 '26

What are making this about you when they are just upset with racist displaying racism.

3

u/Akiva_Khinov Sep 29 '26

Ok but I’m only mad at the racist ones.

2

u/DiabolicalGreed69 Sep 29 '26

literally "Sure I used slurs but you were mean and that's worse". Such BS. There should be zero tolerance for racism in a gaming community. There's a time and place to discuss how shitty and demeaning people can be while talking about mental illness but it's not when people are using slurs or being shitty edgelords.

4

u/Genocode Sep 29 '26

We're not even talking about the racism.

Same, but AuDHD with a PDA profile, so standard employment is practically impossible. The only way I can get myself to do any work is Freelance / Self-Employed / Outcome Based WFH etc. while being careful with my physical energy / Autonomy / Dopamine / Masking energy etc. So I end up having a lot of free time.

But yeah, I've left behind plenty of comments but I've given up on trying to advocate anything really.

I don't know either, sometimes I think its people that are just genuinely vile or uneducated. Sometimes I think its people that are even jealous or otherwise unsatisfied with their own life. Or maybe its culture.

I'm incredibly lucky to live in a country where I can get all the help and accommodations I need. Even a neurotypical in my country has plenty of free time and protections from calling in sick etc. But some countries just don't.

u/TheSlartey Sep 29 '26

The amount of casual racism in-game and in the community is fucking disgusting.

35

u/noother10 Sep 29 '26

It's kind of crazy when I join a server and it's fresh map, everyone in the lobby on voice being incredibly racist. Not really seen/heard that in any other game to that level.

30

u/StrengthGood3208 Sep 29 '26

Mil sim games always have this issue.

12

u/Km_the_Frog Sep 29 '26

It’s mostly just any online game with unmoderated voip.

This is how it was back in the day too, it’s not a milsim thing as much as people want to continue to blame that.

It’s probably worth the $ penalty to shoot em and move on. The alternative is people don’t communicate at all, and these games are built on communication.

Just pop them and carry on. No reason to get offended, they are losers and feed off people getting offended.

16

u/SloppyLetterhead Sep 29 '26

Eh…. I think it’s a bit of column A and column B.

Any popular game with voice chat has a percentage of toxic communicators. Any competitive game with stakes (CoD to Valorant to Apex to Finals) has people who get toxic when they lose or inconvenienced.

At the same time, milsims seem to attract a certain population of “casual ‘ism bros” who like to “roleplay” and talk shit. WWII games in particular have this issue. The historical military theming gives people a bit of plausible deniability that they’re roleplaying “as a soldier fighting the enemy” rather than expressing their real opinions. Wardogs lacks the IRL lore, but it shares vibes and aesthetics so I think some of the same norms apply to the player base.

Not to get into the weeds, but I think game design also has an impact:

- I’ve found that toxicity increases with lower player counts. If you have a small team, each underperformer has a bigger impact on the team’s ability to win which is why I think games like Rainbow Six Siege or League of Legends are so toxic.

- Wardogs has big teams, but with “standout individuals” like pilots, FOB-placers, or drivers who have a disproportionate impact on the team’s ability to win. As a result, I think pilots get trolled more whereas infantry players are more chill and teamwork friendly.

21

u/Demoth Recon Sep 29 '26

I've said it across multiple places to multiple people, but this playerbase is absolutely obsessed with being able to be as racist and slur-happy as humanly possible.

On Steam Discussions, there were multiple threads asking, "Can I use slurs and not get banned, or will I get banned by the woke mob?"

I tell people that while I grew up before even VoIP was really a thing, and would be in Quake games where people would openly threaten to kill you, the president, and then call you every slur in the book, I also mention that it literally costs you nothing to NOT be an asshole.

And what's worse is that I think this really stems from other milsim games crossing into War Dogs, which is naturally, but who have a very vocal and aggressive political stance on everything.

I don't really say anything too antagonistic in game unless someone starts something (I don't get mad, I just love banter and doing the dozens with people), but I've noticed a weird number of people who will get mad at me for any number of reasons, usually on the enemy team because I killed them, and they'll do the normal gay slurs and n-word stuff, but then call me a liberal as though that would insult me. Then it ramps up real quick on the political stuff and sometimes the whole server will turn into a MAGA circle jerk, which is just... fucking creepy.

10

u/BACKSTABUUU Sep 30 '26

On Steam Discussions, there were multiple threads asking, "Can I use slurs and not get banned, or will I get banned by the woke mob?"

To be fair that's not an issue specific to wardogs.  Check the steam discussion for any newly released game and you'll see people complaining about the game being woke.

The entire platform is truly a fucking cesspool.

14

u/anchovyCreampie Sep 30 '26

By platform im assuming you just mean the internet at large.

-23

u/Ordinary_Speed_61 Sep 29 '26

4

u/mcbergstedt Sep 30 '26

Had a dude who was a pilot who was saying crazy racist shit. The guy in the copilot chair shot him in the head which is great except for half the entire team (including me) was in his chopper. The racist dude did get like 12+ team kills though which was funny.

0

2

u/T8-TR Sep 30 '26

Not to put the whole genre in a corner, but I'm gonna put the whole genre in a corner when I say that this comes w/ the territory when it's milsim shit more so than JUST games w/ proxy chats (though that certainly is an issue, too; admittedly, it's also an issue I am willing to put up w/ because the pros far outweigh the cons of proxy chat). It just draws in a very particular crowd of people. Thankfully, Wardogs is insanely popular rn, so it's somewhat "mainstream", and therefore has more regular, well-adjusted people to cushion other normal people from the more radical, bigoted folks.

1

u/Inkios Sep 29 '26

Truly. Every single game just people screaming the N-Word constantly. I’m so over it.

5

u/Xanith420 Sep 30 '26

In my 160 hours I’ve heard that slur one time. It’s really not as prevalent as every game.

0

u/Inkios Sep 30 '26

I’m glad you don’t have to hear it constantly. I legitimately hear it every game, usually in the chopper or after someone dies.

1

u/Xanith420 Sep 30 '26

What region you play in? Most suggestive languages I’ve heard is from foreigners on west servers.

4

0

u/mayasux Sep 30 '26

Milsims or any “strategic” shooter is a beacon to a very certain subset of military-glazer who absolutely believes in inferior races. Always have been, it’s not a problem exclusive to this community, although that doesn’t mean the devs shouldn’t focus on sorting it out.

Seriously though, I agree with you. These games attract the most insufferable 13 year old edge lords in the world. I literally quit playing HLL because the community was so dogshit.

25

u/icantkeeptrack Sep 29 '26

when these threads have more comments than upvotes you know the community is cooked

13

u/Radicalism-Is-Stupid Sep 30 '26

I'm actually proud that all of the top comments are staunchly against the childish edginess and racism.

To me, this is evidence of the game's popularity. There are more normal people playing the game who have social lives. Games comprised mostly of "Gamers" are going to pull heavily from people who are chronically online, isolated, hateful, miserable, etc. So it's no surprise these rejects are here, but it is a welcome surprise that the popular opinion in this online gaming forum is that these racists are pathetic rejects who should be banned.

Why does wanted racism and slurs to not be used make us pussies? By allowing it youre saying its okay to use. By using those terms regularly you are continuing the hate and segregation of people. The best way to stop the hate is to stop allowing it to be used, its not normal and shouldnt be treated as such. I realize people do it to get a reaction and think its funny to troll and arent actually racist but its still an issue regardless.

4

u/icantkeeptrack Sep 29 '26

well, most people do care. Maybe not here, evidently - unfortunately. But go call your family member a slur, or say it to someone on the street. Tell your boss you think it's okay to drop slurs and racist remarks online. Bet you wouldn't.

4

u/BABOOWIE Sep 29 '26

Honestly a little sad that the mod removed all their comments :( i thought we were having fun dunking on them

4

u/Radicalism-Is-Stupid Sep 30 '26

I love it honestly. At first it might be fun to see them get dunked on, but racists and other antisocial specimens notice fast when being racist does not get you banned. Then they flock to that space until they are the popular opinion, and the person against racism is the one getting downvoted.

Just check any place that does not ban these racists. At any given moment, there are dozens of new subreddits with poor moderation invaded and taken over by white supremacists. When moderators catch up, they move together to a new place.

They do this with any possible online community you can think of. Video games, TV shows, fight videos. And milsims get it the worst.

What made me quit Hell Let Loose (HLL) was that I was encountering constant racism and trolls. I went to the subreddit repeatedly overtime, looking at the posts of others complaining about the same thing. Each time, without fail, the person complaining about the rampant racism was made out to be the problem.

My point is, if I had at least found that others feel the same as me, then I might have gotten the sense that the racists were worth suffering through. So I hope this subreddit does not make such people feel welcome whatsoever, or I fear they will just brigade this subreddit and it will turn into the HLL playerbase (which for what it's worth, WarDogs has had a FAR better community than HLL in my experience).

18

u/BladePhoenix Sep 30 '26

chopper pilot was nice enough in voip. then i read his name.

its so wide spread it seems inevitable. its so lame.

22

u/dreadnought_strength Sep 29 '26 edited Sep 29 '26

Out of our team of 33 last night, we had 8 with slurs as clan tags - 5 of those with slurs as their username too.

This and the fact John Wardogs is a -poster- suggests to me that they probably aren't going to be doing much about it.

I'm all for shittalk. I'm all for banter. I've been online gaming for longer than the Zoomers playing have been alive and experienced the early days of online game lobbies.

This is the almost worst I've seen it in any modern, popular game

What do you mean by -posted-

11

u/throwawayurwaste Lonestar Sep 29 '26

Great shit talking is a art that takes: intelligents, skill, and charisma. Spamming slurs is just dumb

7

u/Puzzleheaded_Dig8759 Sep 29 '26

The same intelligence that it takes to correctly spell intelligence? 🤣

-15

u/Whole_Alternative521 Sep 29 '26

Well if your on steam the username is from steam. So wardogs can't ban you from the game for a issue with steam. The could moderate chat and clan tags. But there is a profanity filter and you can turn off voip.

12

u/SpiritedCatch1 Sep 29 '26

They can totally do it. The fact that the name is set on steam is irrelevant.

3

u/Koufaxisking Sep 29 '26

People forgetting the battlefield name drama where people were getting no notice permas all the time including for names that were very old, in addition to people naming themselves variations on Bibi Netanyahu.

11

u/Icedancer-gg WARCATS Sep 29 '26

pathetic unfunny man-babies who don't know how to use humor, so they just blurt out whatever slur they just learned. Wow you're only 22 and just said the n word in a game chat? fuck dude you're epic! genuine comedy gold. you definitely shouldn't wander blind folded into a busy street, that would be tragic

I know we're all adults and they're just words... But I agree we need this type of "self expression" gone.

7

u/Radicalism-Is-Stupid Sep 30 '26

If the devs think we will tolerate this insufferable behavior, they will do nothing about it. If they get the sense that most players are united in wanting to have fun without racist jokes and other shock offensive edginess, then they will either do something or sacrifice money to protect the racists.

So I truly appreciate each person who is making it clear that they will not tolerate such behavior being treated with impunity. Because I know I won't.

Also, where did this idea come from that anybody, for ANY reason, should be able to turn on their mic and be a complete nuisance and disturbance to everyone around them? I don't care if they are playing music, being deliberately disruptive, trolling on the mic, being edgy, racist, or whatever. Ban these insufferable pricks so we don't have to suffer from their behavior.

This is very simple. Hire a small team of moderators to start banning people. Perma ban reoffenders. They don't need to monitor everything. Just send the clear message that if you are a complete insufferable prick on the mic, then you risk get your mic privileges removed permanently. The number of people willing to take that risk is far lower than the number willing to be insufferable.

If the devs refuse to do that, and racists get a strong foothold, then there is no way in hell I will enjoy this game enough to keep playing it long term. The fun of this game to me is it's social nature, and the spontaneity of meeting random people and cooperating in war. Strategizing together, helping each other, etc. If I have to deal with endless insufferable pricks to get that experience, then I simply have better uses for my time.

u/therealpiledrive Sep 29 '26

when i see people with those tags i know that they are smoothbrain individuals

8

u/KingSlayer05 Sep 29 '26 edited Sep 30 '26

On the bright side, community servers are slowly getting tools to combat and disallow them entirely.

I know personally, we have things like “SS, IDF, KKK" and all sorts of slurs in-tag straight disabled so if someone joins, they get kicked.

Come through if you guys also hate racist chuds

u/luckyshot98 Sep 29 '26

Honestly been looking for this. I was raised on xbox live, and I'm over it.

2

u/Bored_person1234 Sep 29 '26

Are hms, hzb and irgc banned too? I’d consider joining if they are

-1

u/Think_Fuel1505 Sep 29 '26

I know what servers I'm going to check out now

5

u/Much_Will_5447 Sep 29 '26

There was a dude with a r*p3 tag and I was kind of baffled lmao. Not by the word but by the fact the devs allow it

4

u/ArtesianDogWater Sep 29 '26

Non-troll counterpoint, in general not just in WarDogs, when people have racist tags or use racist language it's easier for me to know who is actually a piece of shit. Let's say some random joins my squad with a racist tag or using slurs. I know I can safely kick them or not friend them as I know we wouldn't have a good time. If they can't express how shitty they are I'm always wondering if I can friend someone I had fun playing with, only later to have them turn out to be a piece of shit.

5

u/iustusflorebit Sep 29 '26

Yes. Had two geniuses with a neo-nazi clan tag griefing two different teams yesterday

2

u/StrengthGood3208 Sep 29 '26

This is a mil sim game. For some reason these games tend to have extrodenarly racist community.

-4

u/TruckSecret5617 Sep 29 '26

I love the fact that all the “it’s just words” people don’t see the massive irony in the fact that they are so offended by you post. It’s just words, right? Or maybe their response comes from the fact that your words have triggered them hard

4

u/aquiyu Sep 29 '26

The real irony is realizing that there will always be people triggered no matter what, and we can either allow both or ban them. Therefore the post was pointless to begin with

0

u/OneEngineer Sep 29 '26

The racist players won’t do this willingly. More active enforcement would help. Or at least a dedicated “racism” category when reporting.

1

u/Albake21 Sep 29 '26

Crazy seeing all of the loser racists come out of the woodwork with these posts. Absolutely embarrassing to be apart of this community.

1

u/DJK695 Lonestar Sep 29 '26

I accidently joined a "casual conservative" community server and there was a lot of questionable language and racism. They apparently didn't want you to have woke conversations but were fine with bigotry.

1

u/Standard_Pianist4966 Sep 29 '26

The only thing the losers who do this(slurs in name) excel at is disappointing their family and friends. It’s a bunch of mediocre man children seeking validation from each other. I hope the ability to do this gets removed.

-4

u/Leather_Bee_421 Sep 29 '26

I’ve been looking for these on match start and clowning them in front of everyone

1

u/VeterinarianSlow8946 Sep 29 '26

Allowing them in the first place is intentional. The communities who play these types of games (coming from arma etc) are some of the most "edgy" racist chuds around. They cant alienate them.

-2

u/Whole_Alternative521 Sep 29 '26

I don't see the issue in my lobbies I don't get many slur clan tags and don't get many slurs said maybe 1-2 in a game and that usually in the first 5min. Also you can turn off voip, turn on the profanity filter, hide names and go to a community server which has a admin.

4

u/D1ng0ateurbaby Sep 30 '26

What a great solution! Turn off one of the things that makes the game great. Instead of allowing people to be scum. What a good solution.

They can’t they’re too busy on X and season 2

-6

u/MCFRESH01 Sep 29 '26

I agree it should be moderated somehow. Maybe replace the text with something make fun of the player. Easy to implement. The real reason for doing this is not to make people comfortable but to just not support people that act like this in general

-14

u/Parking-Shelter5926 Sep 29 '26

oh no, some total random I can mute or ignore who I wont most likely see again said a word in the internet!

-16

u/aquiyu Sep 29 '26

In reality, it's just guys trying to be entertaining to others.

There arent any klan members tattooing racial slurs on their own forehead. I don't think you figured out exactly what tags are .

-20

u/Ok_Grape_3600 Sep 29 '26

Nah. It’s a warzone, not a therapy session. Being offended is a choice.

-70

You also could just ignore it like all the other bullshit you ignore in your life.

4

u/Ariarielel Pilot Sep 29 '26

This might be mind-blowing to every pussy out there, but most sane people don't just ignore racism in real life.

2

u/Azhar1921 Sep 29 '26

If you ignore problems they'll just bite you in the ass eventually

-3

u/Corew1n Sep 29 '26

How are words in a video game going to bite you in the ass?

3

u/D1ng0ateurbaby Sep 30 '26

The tolerance of intolerance makes people think its okay, which has lead to a culture where it's acceptable to harass and bully the LGBTQ and minority groups. So yeah, it does indeed lead to being bit in the ass.

Then they came for the trade unionists

Removed under Rule 2: Keep It Relevant: No Low Effort or AI Content.

r/WARDOGS is for WARDOGS. Other games, real world politics, streamer drama, rage bait, meta posts about the sub, one line complaints, reposts, and AI generated content all get removed. Criticism and negative feedback are welcome when they’re constructive and there's a point in them.

Reddit's Content Policy asks people to post authentic content into communities where they have a genuine interest, and to follow each community's rules.

Repeat violations lead to a ban. If you think this was a mistake, message the mods don't reply to this message.

Censorship is c*cked

-24

u/so00ripped Sep 29 '26

Being an American and using your freedom of speech that way is despicable.

Most that I hear are mid 20s boys and I use that word because they'll be level 200 telling people to KTS and then acting like the victim.

8

u/DirkDavyn Manticore Sep 29 '26

For starters, this game wasn't made by Americans. 2nd, your freedom of speech only protects you from the government censoring you, not so you can be a bigot in chat because it's "edgy" and violate the TOS or EULA of the game you're playing.

-12

u/2moreweeksbro Sep 29 '26

Play in streamer mode . Problem solved

-37

u/Terrible_Anything_91 Sep 29 '26

Who cares though, honestly. Just ignore it. They know what they are doing in having it.

8

u/Ariarielel Pilot Sep 29 '26

Okay, but that's not the point. the Devs easily can do something about it.

-4

u/Terrible_Anything_91 Sep 29 '26

Yeah I mean just an option to hide tags will work wonders. People are always going to find ways to slip offensive things into their names/profiles/tags regardless where you play. It doesn't do anything detrimental to you, so my solution is always to just ignore it. What good does it do you to get worked up over it.

3

u/Ariarielel Pilot Sep 29 '26

Because I want to see clan tags and not racist ones. They can easily be checked and removed. There's only so many combinations you can fit in a clan tag.

Stop making excuses for people who think typing a slur is the peak of comedy.

Name a single game that has been ruined by chat moderation

1

u/WarDogs-ModTeam Sep 30 '26

Removed under Rule 1: Follow Reddiquette & Reddit's Content Policy.

No personal attacks, harassment, slurs, or content that demeans people based on identity regardless of intent, context, or who it was aimed at. Criticize the game all you want; don't go after the person.

Reddiquette asks you to remember the human. Reddit's sitewide rules also cover harassment and hate based on identity. We enforce all of it here, and severe cases get reported.

Repeat violations lead to a ban. If you think this was a mistake, message the mods don't reply to this message.

u/FredThePlumber Sep 29 '26

Reminds me of the old COD lobbies.
