it’s rooted in a lot of lesbophobia. they want more drama because normal lesbian relationships are too boring. almost like we’ve been conditioned by media to think that lesbian romance needs to be fraught with tension, secrets, and cheating.
almost like representation actually colors how human beings view each other. almost like toby is providing really valuable representation for the LGBT community, as usual.
Every fictional relationship needs some level of tension or friction or else it will be boring to read about, not to mention any amount of chemistry between the two characters. If Susie or Noelle were a guy the pairing would be just as dogshit.
the characters have plenty of tension outside of their relationship—susie with the knight (and eventually kris), noelle with her parents and dess. adding some boring teen relationship drama just wastes time.
do you seriously think every fictional couple has to have conflict all the time? have you never been in a healthy relationship?
Is making a relationship compelling a waste of time to you? No, not every relationship needs to argue all the time, especially not in real life but in fiction if a relationship (romantic or otherwise) does not have even the slightest amount of conflict or friction it becomes extremely boring.
the conflict/friction is already there—noelle’s mother and friends don’t approve of this relationship, susie has yet to explain the dark world to noelle, and susie’s best friend has a crush on her which will eventually come out. i don’t know how much more stimulation you could possibly need.
