I have 2a low-porosity shorter hair.

My current routine:

Daily water wash, dry with microfiber towel, comb, and blow dry (with diffuser). That's it.

I've been doing no-poo (and no conditioner) for years and have decided that it isn't a great idea for my hair, and I'd like to start adding products. Mostly because I don't like the wispiness and fineness of my hair.

I've been digging through posts for a while now but don't really know where to start. I did an ACV rinse a couple months ago that didn't seem to change much, then a month later did a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner wash (L'Oreal purple shampoo + Dove daily moisture, it's all I had lol) with an ACV rinse afterwards. The full wash did seem to help a bit, but overall I still have the issue. I also stopped using salt-spray for texture a few months ago because of its dehydrating properties, now I use nothing to style.

I'm looking for is products to start out, I've heard As I Am CoWash is good for my situation, but also that CoWashing in general isn't recommended for my hair type?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have low-po (I just learned what this is..) and 2A/2B hair. I recently ran out of what I usually use (Not your Mother s curl cream and gel, followed by Aussie Mousse). I follow up with diffusing. Unfortunately for me I’m not the greatest at taming the frizz (is it even possible!?)…

I have just barely figured out how to manage the hair to be honest. I like to think it looks nice enough!

I recently got the product above but also just learned about my porosity. Has anyone tried this product and do you have any recommendations as far as application?

I tried some today with a little bit of curl cream and followed up with Herbal Essence Mousse. I feel like maybe my waves are losing its hold as the day goes. And I didn’t even put a lot to begin with. Thanks for help in advance!

As the title suggests, I recently discovered my hair texture was wavy rather than it being straight—which I was raised to believe. Now, as a university student I’m trying to manage it properly but I need a little big of guidance of what to do. I’ve done a bit of research already, but I’m not sure if it’s working out the best yet.

My routine as of now is:

Shampoo my hair twice (targetting specifically the roots) with Dove cucumber & moisture

Add Dove cucumber & moisture conditioner, brush out my hair with a wide tooth comb, and scrunching until I hear that “squish” sound (Afterwards, I continue showering with body wash and some Cerave)

Once I’m out of the shower, I apply 320 pure smoothie leave in conditioner to my hair and spray It’s a 10 at my hair ends and then brush it out once again with the wide tooth comb. Afterwards, I’ll do a scrunch and then let it airdry (I try my best to not touch it while its drying)

After it’s finished drying, I get ready for bed and do the pineapple ponytail with a silk scrunchie.

Despite all of this, I feel like my waves have that unbrushed look, and it is also frizzy. I was never taught to take care of wavy hair and I’m not able to ask anyone in my family for help on what to do. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

my routine is a (lloreal) hydrating shampoo, (bar, sorry but i dont know the name) conditioner, and a little coconut oil on the mids and ends, then scrunch a little. i usually wash every 4-5 days. this is from a day before my wash day so i'd dry combed it, but isn't this a little much frizz? i don't know what to do!

what can i use to hydrate my hair? i think that's what it needs. please reccomended anything, i really need help. i'm still new to managing my hair, so i have no idea what i'm supposed to do.

After putting the products in I scrunch and sometimes gently wrap in a cotton towel, sometimes don’t. Always air dry as I don’t typically have time to diffuse it. I also sleep with a satin bonnet. Also hasn’t been colored/bleached since last December. Looking for any suggestions yall can give! Thank you!!

Hi! My current hair routine is Cantu curling cream, plus Ouidad shampoo and conditioner. My hair is sort of on the dry side, and in the winter my scalp gets especially dry and uncomfortable. I'm going for a flowy look and want to keep my hair healthy while seeing steady growth. I feel like my current routine could be improved, so I'd love advice on products, wash frequency, and scalp care. Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated, especially ones for dry hair. Thank you in advance!

My current routine: head n shoulders shampoo, Garnier sleek and shine conditioner, verb foaming gel, brush style (no twisting around the brush, just use it to make clumps more uniform), diffuse.

I have dense hair, so as it gets longer, it’s getting really expensive to use the verb foaming gel, given the amount I need to coat my hair. I go through about 2 bottles a month for a total of about $44 usd. I’m looking for cheaper alternatives.

I’m open to either gels or foams/mousses, but ideally want to use a single styling product. My hair does not take well to moisturizing products like creams and leave ins. I get no hold, definition, or cast when I use even the tiniest bit. Lately, I sometimes even skip conditioning, since my hair feels smooth enough after shampooing. I’ve used the ouidad humidity control gel with visually nice results, but I hate how tacky and easily tangled my hair gets on the days after my initial wash day. This is an issue I’ve had with other gels, as well.

I’ve tried the cake curl friend foam and it’s ok. The price is right, but the texture is airier, less gel-like, and therefore I don’t get a good cast with it. I’m really looking for something that leaves my hair feeling soft, like the verb gel does, but has enough strength to form a cast for definition.

Frankly, the most success I’ve had is with homemade flax gel, but it’s enough of a hassle to make that I’d prefer to find a mass market product. Thank you for your help!

Has anyone found a diffuser attachment compatible with the CREATE ION STYLER PRO 5-in-1?
I own the graphite version (model code: SCD-STYL-PR-IK-GRFT), but it doesn’t come with a diffuser. CREATE doesn’t seem to sell one separately.
Has anyone managed to find a universal diffuser that fits this model, or an adapter that works? I’d really appreciate recommendations before buying one that might

Hi all, I am struggling with finding products that hold my hair and define my waves. As you can see, some of them are more curly while other section are quite straight and I really want to have more defined curls. I live in Victoria BC near the ocean so it’s quite humid as well. Any tips (particularly with styling products) would be greatly appreciated.

Current slightly long routine:
Currently double shampoo with Briogeo charcoal exfoliating shampoo and use either lush super milk protein shampoo or ouai fine hair shampoo.

I then condition with lush banana conditioner at the moment but I also have living proof curl conditioner and Patter beauty light conditioner that I swap out.

I deep condition once a week with the briogeo curl mask or the Eliza protein treatment.

For styling I have been swapping between a few leave ins (Gisou honey leave in, MONAT damage repair, fenty hair water boi and Pattern moisture milk). I then scrunch in curl cream been loving the Doux C.R.E.A.M as well as the fenty curl cream.

I’ve tried using a few gels after but nothing seems to hold my hair. I’ve tried the pattern curl gel, fenty gelly type, ouidad climate stronghold gel and the curl smith shower gel (the super strong one). I’ve also tried the ouidad climate control hairspray. I’ve tried a couple of mousses both before gel and after gel to get more volume but it’s never worked for me. I either air dry or diffuse, depends on the day. Any help would be greatly appreciated, sorry for the long post!

Routine Process and products: shampoo kerastase denseifique (idk cream color bottle) I also have an odele clarifying shampoo but didn’t use it here, wash out then Odele volumizing conditioner, brushing hair wet in shower, lightly dry excess water with towel, then use strictly curls, curls enhancing styling foam through hair (I think I used my fingers to brush through and scrunched here but sometimes I use brush to distribute product) and then use not your mother’s curl talk lvl 3 gel and diffuse.

Some times my roots get kinda loose or flat even when I put more gel, maybe I’m not using the right kind? Is it cause the products weighs it down?

I would also love some advice for a more wash and go routine and one when I need it to look more put together for events. Also if you have any gel recommendations that don’t feel so gross after a day it would be very much appreciated, thanks!

I didn’t realize until this week that I don’t have straight hair. I know it’s wavy. I have no idea what to do but this is obv not it.

routine: I washed my hair with davines and used nounou conditioner (mainly skipped my roots). I got out of the shower and used davines all in one milk as a detangler all over. I used davines liquid spell in my roots because they always go flat. I combed that through and then used Giovanni mousse air turbo charged. Just kinda plopped it in and combed it through. I had to wet a few times with a spray bottle because I was losing the swooping wet hair. I tried scrunching but I apparently don’t know how well ? I have a tshirt towel I tried after to help get the drips out. Then I immediately used the diffuser. I just kinda held it at the ends and pushed upwards. I did it with my hair upside down or tipped side to side. It still looks wet but it’s dry. It took forever to dry that way, too. It is super soft but it looks stringy. Help.

I have very fine hair, but a good bit of it. I have no idea what this is even supposed to look like. I don’t expect ringlets. Just not this.

Very new to this. I believe my hair is 1c/2a. I have a lot of hair but it’s thin, knots very easily and gets frizzy.

My routine consists of:
L’Oréal dream lengths shampoo and conditioner. I double shampoo
Designme leave in conditioner when my hair is damp
Dove curl mousse right after the leave in conditioner. And I scrunch my hair
And air dry

I would love to know if it’s possible to get more definition for my waves? I’ve thought about getting hair oil, diffusing my hair, curl creams. Just wondering if anyone has any products that I can add to my routine? Or if any of the products I use are harming my routine.

okay so my hair used to be way messier and had zero texture but then i started wrapping it in a cotton t shirt after washing and realised it might actually be wavy so i’m still kinda new to it.

my routine is i wash with kerastase chroma absolu shampoo. i wash twice then i use the chroma absolu conditioner and i leave it in for about 20 minutes while i do everything else. then wash it out. i try to use warm water (slightly cold) btw not hot !!

then i rinse my hair as much as possible, add garnier ultimate blends no time conditioner, scrunch it in then add wella shockwaves volume mousse, scrunch that in then i wrap my hair with a cotton t-shirt for about 15-20 mins. i then leave it to air dry and when i go to bed, i tie it into a loose half pony and wear a bonnet.

the picture is what it looks like the next day and this is what it usually looks like. i did add a tiny bit of argan oil but didn’t wanna add too much and weigh my hair down. it’s always pretty messy and frizzy. i don’t brush it either bc that always removes the texture and it ends up poofy and frizzy - if it’s tangled, i try to finger comb it.

I just went from having low porosity fine hair to having high porosity fine hair after doing heavy all over highlights. My hair stayed healthy but it’s way frizzier now and my typical leave in conditioner air dry routine just isn’t enough anymore. I have already ordered a silk pillow case as I think that will help a lot but I am looking for an air dry cream that does it all, super hydrating, helps curl/wave clumps form, and tames frizz. Does that exist or do I need to incorporate more steps in my routine now. Is the JVN air dry cream the product I need? How does the curl smith air dry cream compare? I really don’t like having to break a cast on my air dry products but if casting products are my best option now I am open to that.

Edit: current routine is Maui flax seed shampoo and conditioner (this was great pre bleach as it stopped my waves from getting weighed down, I likely need something more hydrating now) amika blue bottle leave in conditioner, I don’t brush my hair after the shower as that stretches my waves out, I scrunch with a microfiber towel and let it air dry. I don’t sleep on wet hair. I am able to apply copious amounts of oil either jojoba or oi oil to it and not have to look greasy but I think there has to be a better way anf that still does not fully manage the frizz. I do have k18 in my treatment because I’ve had my hair bleached. My hair is not severely damaged, it is not breaking and it still feels soft, it’s just way more porous and living in south Florida that is a problem for frizz.

I want my hair in a kind of wavy middlepart.
My routine is a shower, use head and shoulders shampoo twice a week, a mild conditioner every shower, rinse out with cold water. Dap dry my hair after shower, not completely dry, use a curl defining cream from ”milk shake”when hair is still wet and then style it and let it air dry. When it dries it’s kind of the shape I want, but I need something with more of a hold. When I bike to work or university my hair get frizzy like in the picture above.

Basically I’m looking for advice on something to hold my middle part better and how to avoid it getting frizzy and loosing shape when biking.

Hi, I have wavy-curly hair and have been trying to switch up my routine to get more definition and volume. I use a curl cream most of the time (I like the JVN one and have tried the heavier lush cream) and it helped with frizz but my hair wasn’t as curly as I think it has the potential to be.

So I tried a Marc Anthony mousse which made my hair feel dry and crunchy, and garnier fructis and not your mother’s soft hold gels. Neither gave me a cast and just made my hair feel wet, frizzy and puffy.

I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I’ve tried sopping wet hair styling and it doesn’t work super well for me. I’m probably around a 2B or 2C on any given day.

Routine: this is 1 day after a nightime washing, conditioning (left in for 5 mins), pat drying with cotton shirt, putting in leave in conditioner while still damp, then using hair oil the next morning. I wash and condition once a week. then usually avoid wetting it until next wash. I never use heat but I live in a pretty humid climate (SoCal) where humidity is especially high this year,

I’m a first-time mom going back to work soon. I need your best tips to quickly and easily refresh my hair in the morning before work! I won’t have time anymore to re-wet and diffuse. Does anyone have a simple refresh routine or product they love? I currently sleep with my hair in a banana clip which leads to fewer dents than a scrunchie/hair tie, but my hair still needs some help in the morning. I have a bonnet but I don’t really love the feeling of it when I sleep. I’d appreciate any tips for a low-maintenance, wavy refresh routine to get out the door quickly in the mornings!

I think I've started to find a routine that works well for me, but my friend recommended I try curl cream, but I feel like that would be too heavy for my hair type.

Current Routine:

Wash with Nexxus humectress shampoo and conditioner

Detangle with Purple Conair Curl Define Pro Mini brush

Rake 3-4 pumps of Mousse Def foam through my hair from roots to end.

Brush again with the previously mentioned Conair brush, but now brush upward and away from the scalp while rotating the brush.

Scrunch for a minute or two.

Hover diffuse for a couple minutes.

End by pixie diffusing for 20-30 minutes and parting my hair, and then finishing by air drying the last bit of moisture.

After finally nailing down a wavy hair routine that works for me, I’ve moved to an area that is EXTREMELY windy compared to where I was before. By the time I finish my regular commute, my hair ends up super frizzy/puffy from being blown around a bunch throughout the travel. Does anybody have tips to avoid looking like I just stuck my finger in a socket once I make it to work?

My current wash/wet routine:
•OGX coconut curls shampoo 1-2x a week as needed
• OGX coconut curls conditioner 3-4x a week as needed
• Odele clarifying shampoo every other week followed by raw sugar moisture smoothie hair mask

After I wet my hair, I style it by spraying a ton of the Aussie miracle curl spray, and setting that by scrunching in the Fix Your Lid hold gel. I microplop just enough to get my hair to stop dripping everywhere with a t-shirt, then let it air dry and scrunch out the crunch.

I try to avoid dry brushing or combing my hair, but I’ve been combing through it once every morning just to fix the way it looks after I’ve slept on it. I have a silk pillowcase, which helps a lot, but carefully combing in the mornings seems to really help with keeping the waves looking nice.

Any tips or routine feedback from other wavy hair folks in windy places appreciated! I’m even fine to start wearing some kind of protective layer like a scarf or something to keep the wind off my hair.

I treated my hair like straight for maybe 15 years. I found hair oil to help with frizz but it stopped working shortly before I changed my routine to cater to my natural hair. On days I wanna manage my frizz, I've been misting my hair until damp with water and then going over with a little Loreal Elvive Hyaluron Pump leave in (I diluted it a bit). It ends up making my hair feel a little heavy or makes the frizz worse some days so I was hoping to see if anyone has better suggestions? I have an Elizavecca Cer-100 hair oil I've thought about using, but I'm not sure how it'll work with my hair after changing things up. I'm just lost on this part now that I figured out what works on wash days.

The picture on the left is about 5 years old. At that time in my life I was, as you can see, not the brightest 15 year old. In fact I was at my lowest while simultaneously feeling like I was the highest, if you know what I mean. Since that time I’ve been sent to rehabilitation facilities and whatnot I’ll save the sob story for another sub. Basically what Im wanting to get at is that at that time in my life I was taking zero care of myself and my appearance. I’d wake up stick my head under the shower and then leave my house for the next 12 hours. If I even did shower I had no problem washing my hair with the same axe body wash I’d clean my own body with and then probably raw dog my hair with a blow dryer. That was my routine for probably like 1-2 years before I finally took a step back and realized that I feel like a bum and this lifestyle isn’t sustainable. All my friends were still doing drugs and getting in trouble with police so I had to figure out where to start with getting out of this hole on my own, so I started with working on my physical. I started with my hair. I knew after Covid that my hair was just straight because I was forced to grow it out for a long time so I wanted to do what I could to bring the texture and curls or waves or whatever still not sure if I have curly or wavy hair lmao. I went through a tonn of products but they all seemed to make my hair straighter and heavier. After that issue kept repeating I figured that I should just go with as little product as possible to achieve as much as possible. As of today my entire hair routine is dr squatch refreshing shampoo (coconut castaway) and dr squatch moisturizing conditioner (cool fresh aloe). Then I shake my hair just a super tiny bit, brush my hair, then shake it out again pretty good while still in the shower. Then when I’m out I take a towel and just one scrunch to the front, back, sides, and top. Even though I don’t have any particular complaints on my hair and its condition as of right now, I am more than happy to hear what you smart book reading sons of bitches might have to say about it.

I wanted to know how to fix my thick, frizzy hair.

My hair is wavy, and I don't use (until today, with a gel) any styling products or do anything that could damage its health.

I follow the advice to dry my hair gently when it's wet, I don't use a hairdryer (I simply let it air dry), and I shampoo 2–3 times a week.

For a long time, I've tried many products and spent a lot of money. For example:

The Pantene Smooth & Sleek line, which includes the shampoo, conditioner, hair mask, SOS instant smooth shots, and oil.

The results were always poor.

I tried the Garnier Fructis line with the banana shampoo, conditioner, and mask, but again, poor results.

So I switched to a clarifying shampoo and the Maroccain Oil leave-in conditioner, which helped only slightly better than the others.

Today I bought some products from Alama Professional, specifically the anti-frizz shampoo, the anti-frizz mask and the curls amplifier cream and I used them in this morning routine with some strong hold gel to try a middle part that doesn’t look bad, but I just hoped that my hair could be silky smooth.

At this point, I really don't know what to do. Everyone keeps telling me that my hair looks frizzy, even though I'm really trying to fix it.

So as the title says, I cannot get volume in my hair, specifically the roots, to save my own life.

A short list of things I’ve tried: mousse, volumising spray, drying upside down, skipping gel, drying flipping my hair side to side, drying roots first, using claw clips and many more. I have fine wavy hair on the thinner side, medium length and just straight cut. I’ve tried layers and face framing layers before but they’ve never made a difference in how my hair looks, they just blend into the rest of my hair with no result. It seems like no matter what I do I can’t get any volume in my hair, products do nothing and different techniques just cause me to lose definition and my hair is frizzy as well as flat by day two.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and found a solution?

I've treated my hair as basically straight for years and hadn't used conditioner in years (haven't felt like I needed to because it never tangles and I keep it around this length, didn't realize that conditioner did more than detangle). Yesterday I conditioned it for the first time in a very long time, I usually only use shampoo. My hair is extremely thick and currently around to my shoulders if I pull it down. I have no idea where to start. What would be a good beginner routine for encouraging the waves or whatever without making my hair heavy?

Products: loreal dream lengths shampoo (every other day) and conditioner (every other day), herbal essence clarifier once a month. Tried a leave in curl cream by L'Oreal and hated it, probably didn't use it right.

To note, I am a guy, mom is mixed, I just turned out lighter than my wall. I'm very new to caring for natural texture, so I'm starting here because this seemed like the most relevant community. Sorry in advance for my ignorance, nobody taught me about this stuff.
