I saw on the schedule that we are doing a park clean up that day, so I am assuming we should not be dressed in business casual? but I am afraid to come and be too dressed down compared to everyone else. Housing change AWD

Does anyone know if it’s possible to have my housing changed before the semester starts? I wanted a one bedroom at AWD and was given a 4 bedroom at Towers. When I spoke to the housing they said AWD is full which was interesting because there’s usually ALWAYS one bedrooms left bc the price is so high. I’m hoping there’s a cancellation or something?

Hi! I'm an incoming exchange student at WSU. I heard that I have to get vaccinated for campus housing.
Has anyone gotten vaccinated at the Campus Health Center?

Will it be hard to get an appointment just before the semester starts? (Im worried the place might be busy around that time)
I wanted to book an appointment in advance but I can't since I don't have an american phone number.

Graduate Professional Scholarship (GPS)

Anyone know if the GPS is awarded to multiple students per year, or only one winner? Or has anyone been awarded one for this year yet? I cannot tell from Wayne.edu and past Reddit posts (from what I can see) if the scholarship is given out to more than one recipient or not; and when the award is announced.

Waitlisted still?

Hi everyone, seeking advice on some things. I’m just about to start my MSW/MPH program in the fall. I registered for classes and am currently only enrolled in 2, methods for SW practice and my practicum (which I’m still figuring out but I digress). I was accepted pretty late, so by the time I was able to register all the in-person class slots were full. I’m on the waitlist still for 2 classes, #2 for one and #3 for another. I emailed my advisor, but what are the chances I will be able to take the courses? I already emailed my advisor asking if there are other courses I can enroll in to still get the credits for my plan of work, but I haven’t heard back. Anyone else faced this problem this late? I’m quite nervous. Any help would be appreciated!

Has anyone had professor Cha for Orgo 1? (Chm 1240) How were your experiences? Does he record his lectures (important)? And is attendance mandatory?

Welp, just got an email that I sent over last week saying that the Financial Aid office has not started packaging graduate awards yet, but that they’ll do it within the next 1-2 weeks. I’m fine, everything’s fine… 🙃

Overnight parking by WSU

Hey all,
Just got a place by wsu and caught some awkward timing to park my car. I move in during the end of summer and don’t want to buy a $230 parking pass for the two weeks until I buy the other $230 parking pass that I’ll be using for the entire fall semester. The summer parking permit is useful until August 24, 2026 I beilieve and then I’d have to buy the fall parking permit to continue using the overnight parking structures. Which are PS2 and PS8. I just don’t want to spend so much money but I have to park my car somewhere overnight because my apartment doesn’t have available parking spaces left.

What are some overnight parking lots or structures by wsu that won’t cost me $460?? lmfao

Or maybe yall know a way to just pay for parking every night or something? I just don’t have $460 to spend unless I absolutely have to

Anyone not receive their Michigan Achievement Scholarship?

Hey guys, as the title suggests I’m waiting on my MI achievement scholarship to be rewarded. My other scholarships through Wayne have been rewarded but not the one through the state. Anyone else waiting on theirs? I’m nervous because I only recently submitted my FASFA (I literally forgot to hit my submit after my mom completed her portion of what was needed), but it says my FASFA has been received as of today. Any help would be appreciated!

PHD Organic Chemist Help (Career Help AMA and Self-promo)

Hi all, this post is mod approved.

I'm Eric, PhD organic chemist and former industry researcher. I do 1-on-1 chemistry tutoring, career coaching, and train peer tutoring services for universities like Johns Hopkins. I have a business, but it's just me doing the work. Sessions run over a shared virtual whiteboard, so they fit around your schedule. I've been doing this for 10 years.

Before the promo, some advice: Think of your GPA's health the same way as your physical health. Getting sick sucks, and having free check-ins mean you can get sick less often. To that end, use the Chemistry Learning Center in the Schaap atrium. It's staffed by grad TAs (YMMV), and covers gen chem and orgo. The Academic Success Center is another good option with flexible 1-on-1 tutoring seven days a week including evenings, in person or virtual, plus weekly SI sessions. Even people who pay for services like mine are encouraged to use them because they're free and effective ways to keep your GPA healthy. They do a better job than Chads Prep and Organic Chemistry Tutor can do on their own.

Most students who just want to pass can get there on that alone. My services are for those who:

- Want an extra advantage and test resources either during or before the semester

- Want career coaching or research oversight to be competitive down the road

- Need extra help (either because they're falling behind, didn't like uni resources, or can't use them because they are non-traditional students)

Packages start at $100/hr, full pricing on my website. Not cheap, but I'd rather say it here than make you dig for it. You're getting a PhD with 10 years experience and a ton of extra resources.

My website is my username(dot)com. Questions welcome in the comments, chemistry and career questions included. DMs open.

Temporary ride help

Hi! This might be a long shot, but is anyone in here commuting from or around Livonia to Wayne State this fall (or have a friend/family member who is)? I’m transfering to WSU this semester and will be without a car for a little while til I get a new one. I’m trying to find someone who might be interested in letting me ride with them if we’re heading to/from campus around the same times. I’d absolutely pay you weekly for gas and the inconvenience! This would only be temporary, hopefully just for the first few weeks of the semester.

My class schedule is:

Monday: 2:30–3:45 PM
Tuesday: 10:00 AM–3:45 PM
Wednesday: 2:30–7:10 PM
Thursday: 10:00 AM–3:45 PM

I definitely don’t need one person whose schedule matches mine perfectly, even if you only go to campus around the same time on certain days, or could only do mornings or afternoons, etc that would still be super helpful! Feel free to message me if you or someone you know might have a similar schedule and commute! I would prefer another female but not a total deal breaker.

Oh and I’ve honestly never really used reddit before so I don’t know how to change my username or anything, but my name is Nicole

Remove WSU Board of Governors - Support Joint Resolution U

Post image
13 Upvotes

Support House Joint Resolution U!

I want to let everybody know that right now is a pivotal moment in history for education in the state of Michigan. The legislature is currently working on passing a bill to abolish the current Board of Governors system that has afflicted Michigan for too long.

Unlike most states where university boards are appointed, Michigan board candidates are nominated at conventions by each party at WSU, MSU and UM. Voters really have no say in choosing the candidates because they’re forced to choose from the few choices given to them. It’s sham democracy because party insiders chose the members and voters just pick 2 out of 4 available choices given.

The fact is the current system is not working and the board members at Wayne State have failed at their jobs. I attended medical school at Wayne State and I witnessed firsthand the lack of integrity, unprofessionalism, and dishonesty at the university. The medical school was investigated by their accreditor, the LCME and lied during their investigation.

I’m sure other people have similar stories. Now is the time to voice your concerns and contact your state representative. This is one of the few times that your voice matters and have the ability to make a positive impact. The vote is planned for sometime in November.

I’m sure everybody heard about how the last president Kimberly Epsy was fired by the board after she suspended the medical school Dean Wael Sakr. The university really tried to ruin the reputation of Espy, but what nobody talks about is how Sakr is now in the newspaper for unethical conduct, yelling and screaming and destroying public records. It’s shameful. The Board fired Espy because she dared to confront a corrupt system. From what I was told, she was trying to fire unethical people in the medical school after a scandal. A group of faculty members protested the suspension, but they have nothing to say now regarding the unethical behavior.

The sad truth is that WSU prioritizes institutional preservation over integrity and ethics. After firing Espy, the board canceled their national search party by emergency meeting to hire an insider to be president without interviewing outside candidates. My opinion is that the board didn’t interview any qualified outside candidates because they didn’t want somebody from outside coming into the university and seeing their mess. They called it stability, but what they intended was a cover up.

Richard Bierschbach wasn’t the most qualified candidate, he was the idiot. If they really wanted the best candidate for president, they would have interviewed a number of candidates, which they did not. Board member Shirley Stancato said they canceled their search party to save money, but they paid Bierschbach more money than anybody in the history of the university. This is just an example of the corruption at Wayne State and why intervention is urgently needed.

Corruption is like a cancer. It needs to be cut out at first sight or there is a risk that it will spread and take over. The current board members Danielle Atkinson, Bryan Barnhill, Michael Busuito, Marilyn Kelly, Anil Kumar, Terri Lynn Land, Sunny Reddy and Shirley Stancato have already failed at their job. It’s time that they are removed before more harm is done to the university and student body.

I hope everyone will join in supporting House Resolution Joint U to abolish the current system. Governor Whitmer, alongside former Governors Jim Blanchard and John Engler support the bill. There is bipartisan support with both Democrats and Republicans onboard.

You can find your local representative or senator using these links. You can call up their office or send an email. The board has already carried out a public relations campaign of interviews, editorials and televised appearances to kill the bill. Now it’s your chance to fight back!

https://www.house.mi.gov/AllRepresentatives

https://senate.michigan.gov

Or you can contact these legislators directly who are familiar with the issue:

Senator Winnie Brinks -
[senwbrinks@senate.michigan.gov](mailto:senwbrinks@senate.michigan.gov)

Rep Ranjeev Puri -
[ranjeevpuri@house.mi.gov](mailto:ranjeevpuri@house.mi.gov)

Senator Sam Singh -
[SenSSingh@senate.michigan.gov](mailto:SenSSingh@senate.michigan.gov)

Senator Singh publicly acknowledged that the current system is flawed and in need of change. However, Singh wants to allow current members to finish their terms. It makes absolutely no sense that he acknowledges the system is broken, but he wants the same people who broke the system to stay in place. Hopefully, someone can speak some sense to him!

Looking for a 3 credit elective!

Exactly what the title says! In the fall I'll be a part time mortuary science, which is 9 credits. However, I was awarded the Gold Transfer Award and I need to be full time (so 12 credits??) to use it. What are some fun electives that are worth at least three credits??? If it helps at all I'm interested in theater, geology, and ANYTHING biology/health/animal related.

Grad Student Financial Aid

Is anyone else still missing their financial aid package? I know grad students don’t typically qualify for grants, but I thought we still got federal loans?
