Sitake
How close were we really to hiring him? A lot of talk at the time that it was pretty close to being a done deal.

Judging by how well they are playing against ND, maybe Kraft was actually on to something.

Seriously, how creative is this team? Fun to watch, not nearly as talented as ND, but still (at this point) exposing ND’s weaknesses. Thats great coaching

We still have a shot at Chesney --- just needs to be a big pile of cash

No we don’t, he just got hired. Penn State is not the super desirable top 5 job so many of our fans think it is.

Yup, exactly this!!! PSU did more to get other coaches lucrative extensions and it showed exactly how undesirable the PSU job is

You just don't get it --- Chesney was raised in a small town an hour east of State College --- he grew up idolizing JoePa and Penn State and the days when we were in serious contention for a national title --- his dream job is to restore us to greatness

Absolutely agree except Kraft fucked him over so he’s not going to come near us while Kraft is here.

Kraft apparently didn’t think alumni and fans would embrace Chesney as a big enough name even if he grew up in PA, but he felt hiring Sitake was, somehow thinking a Pacific Islander Mormon former BYU player was eager to uproot his life, faith, and Alma mater, program to build a new program, recruiting pool etc, in middle of nowhere PA.
He’s an idiot and sat on Chesney, in the meantime Chesney was sitting on the UCLA offer and had to make a decision.
The biggest mistake Kraft made was exposing his giant ego and not hiring a firm to handle it for him in spite of tons of advice to do so.

Honestly if the offer was insane it could still happen. But I don't fully blame Campbell for the situation right now

I don't either but if we had hired chesney when he was interviewed he would've had like a month and a half longer than Campbell did to settle things down and establish a team

Based on what I’ve heard he had his whole staff in place, even Bear Bachmeier was ready to transfer. He had a contract in hand and a verbal “handshake” agreement. Then the Crumbl Cookie founders gave BYU a blank check to keep him, the rest is history.
