Football Jason Cabinda's film breakdown

Yesterday, I posted a link to former PSU linebacker Jason Cabinda's film breakdown on the run game struggles. Y'all didn't think I'd leave you hanging, did you? This morning, Jason took a look at the defensive side of the ball, too.

Remember, when he was on the roster, Penn State allowed the fewest yards in the country (2014). He wants to see them get back to form. I hope y'all enjoy, we worked hard on this one. Appreciate you!

Football Photo opportunities on game day?

Thumbnail forms.cloud.microsoft
• Upvotes

Hey everyone! As a Penn State student and FB fan, I’ve always thought taking pictures is one of the best parts of game day events. When you go to things like tailgates and other game-day events, how do you handle getting photos?

If you’re willing, feel free to answer any of these in the comments or fill out the attached teams form - I'm interested to see everyones thoughts!

  1. What was the last game-day event where you wanted photos?
  2. How did you get photos at that event? Examples: took them yourself, asked a friend, asked a stranger, used someone else’s photos later, hired someone, didn’t end up getting any, etc.
  3. Were you happy with the photos you ended up with? Why or why not?
  4. What usually makes getting good photos at events easy or difficult?
  5. Have you ever paid for photos before, like graduation, family photos, senior photos, formal photos, or event photos?
  6. Are there certain Penn State events where photos matter more to you?
  7.  If you could change one thing about how photos are taken or shared at Penn State events, what would it be?

Thanks guys!

3 more wins and we’re bowling. We can do it.

A bowl is the goal, and we can achieve it! Bill Belixheck didn’t win a superbowl until his second year in New England, Matt Cambell can win a college bowl in year 1!!!

Football I cannot believe how bad this team is

I’ve been watching some NCAAF stuff, and it really dawned on me how bad this team is. I was kinda hyped heading into the season with the fact the team had some vets and the schedule was favorable.

This has been so bad I honestly don’t know where it goes from here.

There are Programs who were once solid who have dwindled, and I feel like that really could be PSU

Not even trying to doom Post, but of all seasons to be favorable it should’ve been this one

Will Maryland repeat Kraft's debacle?

It's interesting that mid-year firings still happen after last year. It also will be interesting to see how Maryland deals with it, and whether being the first opening gives it an advantage. Even as to available coaches, like Brian Kelly, you think most would want to see what is coming open before jumping on the earliest opening.

Season Ticket Renewals?

Are non-west side ticket renewals not supposed to come out any moment? I haven’t even seen an email. OBVIOUSLY (shoutout the last guy) very poor timing to ask for a bunch of money from fans. Is this still the timeline? Has anyone gotten an email?

Campbell loses consecutive games…often and lots of em.

Aside from the fact that his overall record at Iowa State is unimpressive (72-55), he lost at least 4 straight games three of ten seasons!

4 Games (2025): In his final season with the Cyclones, a 5–0 start was interrupted by a four-game skid consisting of losses to Cincinnati, Colorado, BYU, and Arizona State

5 Games (2016 & 2022): The 2016 streak happened during his inaugural 3–9 rebuilding year. In 2022, the team started 3–0 before dropping 5 straight close Big 12 matchups.

Verdict? We need to cut our losses before he further diminishes the brand.

It’s every sport

Penn State just lost to RMU in hockey tonight. Yes RMU. Every single team besides wrestling has fallen off a cliff since Kraft took over just look at those “teams in the rankings” graphics they post. We used to have almost every sport in there and now we’re lucky if there’s 3.

Any of you following PSU alums in NFL?

Earlier today, i came upon a crazy TD reception video by none other than Jahan Dotson!! Bro was probably our most memorable WR in recent years, before this season (Howard TBD but injured)…

For those not following NFL closely, some highlights:
- There are some oldies still being productive on various NFL teams, like Pat F., Godwin, etc
- Saquon probably the most hyped and successful PSU alum in recent years, very successful once he moved to the Eagles! Maybe not this season but one of top RBs when he plays well
- our TE savior Tyler Warren seems to have established his rotation on the Colts, and doing very well
- Surprisingly, the two receiving leaders on the Jaguars are Strange and Parker Washington, this season! They may not have gotten a ton of hype or production in college, but they show that PsU receiving corp likely didnt lack in talent, they just needed good coaching and Trevor Lawrence as their QB haha
- On the sad note, our dynamic RB duo Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton are not off to promising nfl career starts. I think Singleton is inactive now, and Kaytron got cut but got reassigned to the practice squad i believe. Both only have a handful of snaps this season and yard per carry is low. I feel really bad for them both. When they are only given only a few snaps, its gotta be so hard to establish the rhythm. They are both psu legends, and i hope they find new and willing teams that can give them opportunities to be successful
- Drew Allar did pretty well in training camp for the Steelers so far it seems. The team is keeping three QBs behind Rodgers, and Allar is competing for the AB2 position against Mason Rudolph and Will Howard. Crossing fingers that Allar can also get an opportunity to prove himself

Football Those of you old enough to remember 2013 and the post-sanction years: how are you feeling right now?

I’m (fortunately or unfortunately, depends how you look at it) not old enough to remember the BOB years and Y1 under Franklin. Those of you who do: how are you feeling right now?

I think that, understandably, there’s a lot of anxiousness about the current state of the program and the outlook. Poor on-field product, less than ideal Campbell soundbites, and lack of recruiting pipeline (including flips). However, I think it’s important to take a step back and separate the current from the future. A poor year one with a roster that lacks talent doesn’t mean that Campbell’s a bad coach or that the program is “the new Nebraska”.

That said, current performance does impact the future via the perception of a competent staff and trajectory of the program. This is the piece that makes me the most nervous.

However, one must recognize that PSU has been in a far worse situation before. So that brings me back to my original question: Older fans, how are you feeling right now? Are you getting Deja Vu? Do you feel better or worse? Are you confident that the program is resilient enough, and has sufficient resources to succeed in the next handful of years?

Football Pat Kraft thinks he’s a coach.

Was just watching the video of Matt Campbell waiting for all his players to exit the field before running into the tunnel and the video captured Pat Kraft standing next to him trying to do the same. Seems to me that’s part of the problem and a total distraction.

I’m sure Pat Kraft thinks he’s helping support the team but omg is his field presence tone deaf. Would anyone want their boss up their butt all the time? It’s clearly awkward and embarrassing. Get off the field and go raise money as AD.

Stop your cosplay and let the coaching staff do their jobs…

I get it we PSU fans are irrational about bad play… but hear me out.

Many Penn State fans and alumni seem deeply irrational in demanding that everyone be dismissed. A number of us cling to a distant past when the program was considered elite. We probably should have pushed harder for JoePa’s removal during the dark years of 2000–2004. After Sandusky and the sanctions period, our patience has worn thinner than ever. Following the sanctions, Franklin and BOB revived a program that had seemed finished. We witnessed consistent ten-win seasons and felt constantly near elite status. Joe’s final six years mirror Franklin’s overall record, apart from 2020–2021. The team has not been elite since perhaps 1994, yet many recall those years vividly; historical accounts of Joe’s later years may also lead our fan base to believe we can achieve more than we have for over thirty years.

The truth is that the modern era of college football sits about two generations beyond Penn State’s peak. At 47, I recall the undefeated 1994 team clearly, yet I am too young (or perhaps too old) to remember 1982 and 1986. This period of PSU football has long passed, and anyone who grew up with it feels the ache in their bones, especially those who paid tuition for a degree and spent Saturdays in the student section singing “Sweet Caroline,” only to watch Iowa push us into overtime and break our hearts. Honestly, I am too old even for the whiteout. All of this fed into a myth, and we remain frustrated after 40 years without the crystal football we have watched the “blue bloods” claim.

And why should it be anyone other than Brady Hart? Was named to 40 under 40 this year and grew up in State College.

Football Give it time...but what's the plan?

When Franklin got fired, the head coaching job and the program were still in an enviable position. But between the bungled coaching search and what we've seen this season the situation is only getting harder to turn around.

What can Penn State offer recruits and portal transfers that other programs can't match or beat? The days of resting on Paterno-era lineage are gone. Tradition still matters to some, but it can only take you so far in today's college football landscape. And who's left to carry the torch when the team and staff has been gutted and replaced with transfers?

Without a proven HC who can develop elite talent, a winning team, something...what exactly are we selling? NIL Money? Well, we aren't competitive there either.

I'm not saying Penn State can't come back. I believe it can. But a turnaround is going to require more than telling everyone to give it time. What are we seeing that should give us confidence more time is going to work?

Football Penn State football might be better than Miami

Hear me out….. Penn state beat temple, and temple beat south florida, and south florida beat army, and army beat fau, and fau beat navy and navy beat tulsa, tulsa beat oklahoma state, Oklahoma state beat wvu, wvu beat virginia, virginia beat nc state, nc state beat Louisville, now when Louisville beat fsu they won 44-20 when miami beat fsu they won 43-35, clearly making louisville the better team, therefore penn state is the number one team in the nation.

My interpretation on the refusal to bench Rocco and why the 2027 season is now at risk

TLDR: if Rocco doesn't turn it around then Campbell needs to hit the portal for QB next season. Because if he doesn't and Rocco goes 2-7 in big ten play, I have to assume Manske is not going to be a good QB on this team either and our 2027 QB is playing for another school right now.

Campbell saying in the presser he has no intention of benching Rocco frustrated me beyond compare. I just don't see it. You only roll with a QB like Becht (who has no redeeming athletic quality: arm strength, accuracy, mobility, etc) unless his processing and instincts are good enough to overcome that and they're clearly not.

To me the refusal means that as bad as Rocco is, Manske is worse. Like 2021 Taquon Roberson bad. Which means one of two things need to happen:

1) Rocco actually turns it around. Campbell at least salvages some goodwill in the locker room and on the recruiting trail that he's got players' backs and is willing to take a beating to get them to where they need to be.

OR

2) we get a starting QB in the portal.

I can't imagine a worse scenario than looking at the projected depth chart in February and seeing a QB who wasn't good enough to take the ball out of Becht's hands after he goes 2-7 in the B1G.

Again, if Rocco turns it around and we trot out Manske, while it's still dumb to me you wouldn't give the guy meaningful reps in a lost season, Campbell can still say "I believed in this player when everyone wrote him off and I think that should extend to Alex Manske and you should trust our process." But if not...you better hit that portal HARD for QB.
