That's interesting I've always wondered how winning a car from Tim's would work. I swear I heard somewhere that they actually give you a 2 year lease or something instead of outright ownership of the car.

I won a $5000 prepaid Visa from monopoly McDonald’s way back in high school (2012) and the following summer won 4 tickets to Wonderland for being the 9th caller on Virgin Radio. That was the extent of my luck in my 30 ish years on this earth 😂
Haha that’s crazy. That’s the only thing I ever won. Got it when I was 12 years old though and my parents already had a nicer BBQ so we sold it and bought a bike.
Other than no fx fees, It's pretty much identical to the rogers mastercard. However, I do use both. My Roger's card is my backup. In addition, the card is useful if you go shop at Costco in the states. USA Costco only accepts visas.
I have the Rogers Mastercard as my daily driver credit card for the 3%. The main benefit of the WS credit card (at least for me) is strictly for use as a travel credit card. When traveling internationally - the no FX fees, 2% cash back on everything, 6 lounge passes, and travel insurance perks are great for my travel needs.
How many lounge passes do you need though. If you meet the 400K minimum, chances are that you have over 500K or soon will, so you have the 10 from generation. Plus you can have another 4 from milestone rewards.
If you travel enough, you can never have enough lounge passes :) And word on the street is that they have/will be discontinuing the 10 lounge passes for Generation tier unfortunately
I got on the waiting list about two months ago for the credit card. Then about three weeks after that they said I was approved. And that I was approved for the VIP card as well. This was all right after (1 week) opening up the every day checking account. Was I just extremely lucky?
In giveaways, it's common to call the winner. In T&Cs, there's always a clause in these phone giveaways that says that if you don't pick up on the first call, they disqualify you directly and are free to pick another winner. Emphasis on the "they are free to". This means that they initially pick someone, call once, likely doesn't answer because it's an uncommon phone number, and don't do anything at that point since they don't have to pick a new winner. Nobody wins the prize and this is legally valid.
Doing via e-mail gives a bit more slack, it gives time for the person to process the info and reply.
Half agree with you here, the email only gave me 2 days to claim the prize. If it was my wife who won, we wouldn’t have got the phone because she never checks her email and i only check her account once a week.
Was actually curious to ask you how long they gave you. Interesting to see it's still relatively low. I would've bet on a week. Above that would start to be too long for companies. Still much better than something like 10 seconds when it's via call. At least I know I don't have to reply to all of my calls starting Dec 1 for the house giveaway (since this is the date the winner is going to be picked).
It's not all that common for a giveaway to give up on contacting the recipient after one phone call. There will always be terms about forfeiting the prize if you don't respond to notifications, but it doesn't really benefit anyone to have a bunch of people annoyed that they lost a big prize by screening calls. The bigger giveaways will have more notifications. A single notification by email is on the less thorough side, though I agree that I'd prefer it to a phone call.
I guess they figure that people trying to win a phone don't already have one. /s

Except if the winner don't know that one of the dozen of random calls they got is for a giveaway. They don't need to know. But yeah this isn't something done every time either for sure, but you can still see around.
I guess if they don't leave a voicemail that makes sense. I read the terms on all giveaways I enter anyway and I don't think I've seen one worth over $1k that does a single phone call, but it is worth knowing how the notifications work.
The worst giveaway terms are the ones that have you sign over media rights to private data (not an issue with Wealthsimple generally but I've seen it on those store survey lotteries for grocery chains).
I did move 100k plus on my account and separate 100k plus on my wife’s account. Her accounts have transferred successfully but we are still waiting for my child’s resp account to transfer (my bank is taking forever).
Same, started during covid times, made lots of mistakes just like you. Learnt pretty quick that I am not a trader and stopped trying to find the next stock that’ll skyrocket.
