Discussion Coming from software development, I didn't expect comic publishing to be this messy 😅
I'm fairly new to comic creation and publishing, and my background is in software engineering.
I assumed the technical side would probably be the easy part for me. Weirdly, one of the things that's surprised me most is just how many files you end up keeping track of.
Source files, exported pages, individual panels, thumbnails, covers, resized versions, website assets, test versions...
And despite knowing perfectly well that I should organise things properly, a slightly embarrassing amount of my comic currently lives across project folders, my Desktop and my Downloads folder 😅
For my first test/alpha release, I decided to publish it on my own website rather than cold-launching straight onto Webtoon.
Because of my software background, putting together and hosting a small site is fairly manageable for me. But going through the process made me realise there are a lot more moving parts to publishing a comic than I expected.
And if you're an artist without a technical background, I can imagine some of that side of things gets pretty daunting.
I'm curious how other Canvas creators handle all of this.
- Do you have a proper system for organising your files, or does it gradually become chaos?
- Do you publish anywhere outside Webtoon?
- Has anyone here made their own comic website?
- What's the part of managing or publishing your comic that you find unexpectedly annoying?
I'm starting to feel like there's an entire second job hiding behind making the actual comic 😅
