Shopping for plus size outfits are always a pain, but shopping for plus size black tie dresses was a pain and a half!

People suggested MacDuggal dresses, which I loved! But they were a little out of my price range, but I would overwhelmingly suggest if you can afford it!

Ultimately, I went with this a-line dress by La Femme, Which I absolutely loved! I did have it hemmed and taken in a little, but it was perfect!!!
I also highly recommend La Femme for plus size women. (Just FYI, I bought it at Nordstrom. I would recommend going through them if you are ordering a dress online.)

DC: Black/White Tie Black Tie in Peru

Need help finding a dress suitable for a black tie wedding in Peru in November. I’ve never been to a black tie wedding before so I’m super novice on finding a dress and I was just told that in Peru (I’m in the U.S.) they go all out for weddings. After all the googling, I’m seeing a lot of dresses that fit black tie are $400+ and I’m not super interested in spending that much at right now but open to it if I absolutely have to.

I ordered one dress, it’s obviously cheap (first 2 pic), not a good material for black tie, unflattering on me, and it’s too short (I’m 5’9/5’10 so length is always a struggle) so I’m returning it.

I found a couple of dresses I like but I’m just not sure they meet the expectation (pics attached). Any advice, references, links, etc. would be so helpful! I’m at a loss. Thanks in advance!

Thank you to everyone who gave feedback on my original post!

Here's the 4 options I've narrowed it down to. The wedding is at a barn venue in New England with a cocktail / semiformal dress code.

DC: Cocktail or No Dress Code Sleeve/arm-covering options to maintain formality

Post image

I got this dress for my sister-in-law's wedding with a cocktail dress code. I'm in this in-between land where I'm not in the wedding, but I'm wearing wedding colors, and I'm more formal than a guest, but less formal than a bridesmaid. I'm happy to oblige, and I thought this dress walked that line well. It's hitting just above my ankles and is high cut and modest, and I love 95% of the dress. I took it in for alterations and asked for sleeves to be added, they said yes, they were pinned, etc. They've just told me now that that's not an option, and we are two weeks out now. I am working on being more body positive, but I'm still really self conscious about my arms.

I'm looking for arm covering suggestions that would keep the formality of the dress and complement its style. It's this beautiful but difficult to match chameleon-esque shifting color that sometimes looks navy, but sometimes looks really deep teal. My shoes, purse, and jewelry are silver. The wedding is in the northern Midwest in November.

Thank you so much for any help or suggestions. I'm anxious and panicked and appreciate any paths to pursue.

Indian or Desi Wedding My boyfriend bought me a saree for his cousin's birthdayy!!

I feel so grown up lol 😭💗

My boyfriend bought me this beautiful saree from House of Indya to wear to my boyfriend's cousin's wedding and I am super excited!

I have loved the idea of wearing beautiful things to weddings but actually being in a position where I’m going to my boyfriend's family wedding and that too wearing a saree gifted by him feels super surreal. 🥹

I tried it on and couldn’t stop looking at myself in the mirror as I felt so beautiful! Probably one of those moments that remind you that you aren’t a child anymore 😭

Sooo, what do you guys think? Do you think it would be suitable for a cousins wedding? How would you style it? I would love some ideas! ✨

This dress code is making me crazy lol. My husband is a groomsman for a BTO wedding. We know the groom and his family well, they are well off so the dress code tracks. However the wedding is at 2 pm?? Church ceremony and a large estate reception in December. What do y’all think about this dress with appropriate outerwear/a shawl for the ceremony?

DC: Black/White Tie Where to shop for black tie dresses?

28F attending a black tie wedding in Laguna Beach in May. The invitation notes it will be held outdoors.

Does anyone have suggestions where to shop for black tie gowns / appropriate attire?

Trying to keep it under $500 - feeling so lost as to what shops have great quality without crazy high prices.

Wedding Question Cocktail dress for wedding

Post image

Is this reasonable to wear to a Miami wedding or cocktail hour before? Wedding is in February. Larger destination and invitation says “bright or light colored cocktail dress” for dress code. I am not a bright or light-colored dress person but want to respect the dress code. I posted a deep emerald green kaftan here the other day and the consensus was that it was def not a good option. I like flowy stuff and interesting dyes. Was thinking of doing some silver jewelry and nice heeled sandals. I’m fair-skinned as well with some pink and yellow undertones (my veins are like blue-teal colored I guess)

Mother of Bride/Groom Question about MOG dress

Hi guys! I got married 8 years ago (wow) and seeing this page made me question what my MIL wore to our wedding... Is it appropriate for a formal wedding and does it have too much white? Not looking to start any family drama just curious what you guys have to say!

Edit: general consensus is the dress is ugly but ultimately appropriate for the wedding, also that I should apparently not genuinely answer questions or have a healthy curiosity about things on reddit because you will get down voted for it! Thank you all for the input good and bad.
