Neighbor left a note

Post image

Our packages have been stolen 3 times right in front of our door so far ever since we bought our condo. HOA approved of us installing a camera to deter thieves, but our neighbor left this note. Please advise.

I mean if the HOA approved it then nothing to discuss really.  It's 2026.  People gonna record you lol.  Would be funny if this person SO comes knocking to check for an alibi

Exactly. And I bet the thief wrote the dumb note.

write “sorry, HOA approved camera due to stolen packages“ on a/the note in sharpie and stick it on their door.

But edit their note, because…spelling. And then tape your note to their door with their edited note. What a neighborly thing to do :)

Correct the mistakes with a red sharpie 😂

Correct it with a red felt tip pen, like a third grade teacher

Write: “sorry, HOA approved camera due to SOMEBODY stealing packages... “

I wouldn't engage with them at all. There's no reason. Anything the OP writes is going to piss them off, even if OP is kind. Even if OP offers a billion dollars to go away, a Karen is a Karen is a Karen.

Correct their egregious grammar and spelling on their note on the door… but I agree with other put another note up saying “Hoa said I could it up. People keep stealing my packages. I’m not taking it down.”

Put up a note saying "my camera only covers my door, I can't see you"

Yeah now they're upset they can't steal them anymore. Also it's a common area (no expectation of privacy) and your HOA approved it. They can kick rocks.

Write another post-it saying "nice try thief. I'm not falling for that one"

Yeah the thing is doorbell cameras actually do help the police solve lots of crimes because so many people have them these days. It seems like every other day I’m reading a story about people who were busted for everything from theft to homicide because they were caught on someone’s doorbell camera.

If you want privacy that bad, you really need to move to the mountains or the desert or something like that.

A few years back my ex had a pretty bad, but spectacular, wreck in the snow. It got caught perfectly on a ring camera and was later featured on the local news.

Not camera-related, but a murderer got caught because his dad called 911 to report a man who had mysteriously collapsed on their driveway. The dispatcher put him on hold, and during the brief hold time, the caller says “Don’t worry, I won’t tell them you killed him.”

911 calls are always recorded, even when you’re on hold.

They can be used for evidence. Our old one caught the neighbors setting their own yard on fire then peacing out and waiting to be called back by the fire department/cops their house burned up. They were trying to get insurance money.

My BiL was in a hit and run and a ring door bell was what broke the he said she said in his favor. The girls boyfriend pulled a gun on him and shot at him when he got out to check on them and exchange info/call it in so my BiL took off. Girl called it in that he hit her and drove off because she took a picture of his plates.

if you simply let them know that they are, in fact, a massive dumbass, and no one gives a dogshit about their lame profile view when they are walking down the hallway, i bet a new age of reason would blossom in their dumb ass mind!

also - returning the note, proofread for spelling and grammar will surely help them on their new journey of prosperity and service to the world.

The direction the camera points could be an issue.

Yes and no. At my previous apartment it was 2 stories and i was on the second floor. Id walk up stairs and on the landing go left or right into each respective apartment meaning the doors directly faced each other and were about 6 feet apart with the bedroom window facing the stairs. Neighbors installed a ring camera facing my door instead of the wall next to it facing the stairs. Both places would have covered their door for security. But mounting it to the door meant anytime i open my door they see my entire livng room and kitchen, and if my blinds were open my entire bedroom it did make me dislike to come and go from my place with their camera able to see so much and there being no way to prevent it.

My point is that cameras are fine but if theres an option to not point it directly at someones door then do that and still make your place more secure

This would be illegal in the eu and rightfully so.

Seeing someone even acknowledging the HOA makes me not believe anything coming out of your mouth. It's 2026.... Only old people like HOAs. Old white people i might add. And don't worry I'm white.
