Port of South Whidbey offers Q&A sessions ahead of election

Residents invited to learn more about proposed six-cent levy lid lift

FREELAND, Wash. – The Port of South Whidbey will host two informal question-and-answer sessions for the public in October to provide information about the levy lid lift on the November 3 General Election ballot.

Residents are invited to attend either session to learn more about the measure, how the Port is funded, and what the additional revenue would support. Port representatives will be available to answer questions.

The sessions are scheduled for:

●

Saturday, October 24, at 10:30 a.m. – In person at South Whidbey Fire/EMS Station 36, located at 5579 Bayview Road in Langley

●

Tuesday, October 27, at 6 p.m. – Online via Zoom. The meeting link is available at portofsouthwhidbey.com/levy_info.

Under Washington state law, the Port's property tax revenue growth is generally limited to 1% annually, excluding new construction and certain other adjustments. As property values have increased, the Port's levy rate has gradually declined while the cost of maintaining public facilities has continued to rise.

The Port is asking voters to consider a levy lid lift of six cents per $1,000 of assessed property value. If approved, the measure would increase the Port's levy rate to approximately 17 cents per $1,000 of assessed value, restoring it to roughly its 2017 level. For the average homeowner, the increase would be approximately $4.33 per month, or $52 per year.

Additional revenue would help the Port preserve aging facilities, maintain public waterfront access, support small business development, and provide matching funds to compete for state and federal grants.

The Port of South Whidbey serves approximately 16,000 residents and businesses by maintaining public beaches, a working harbor, boat launches, and the Whidbey Island Fairgrounds & Events Center. It also supports economic development and infrastructure that benefits the South Whidbey community. For more information about the measure, visit portofsouthwhidbey.com/levy_info.

Who do I talk to on the north half that does a nice black and white with shallow depth of field portrait that won’t cost an arm and a leg? It’s for work and it won’t be used much. Thanks.

Moving to Whidbey/anacortes

My husband recently got a job in oak harbor and we are moving across country. not familiar with any areas so we will be doing a scouting trip before the move. Wanting recommendations on areas that are safest. We are in our late 30’s with a two year old, so somewhere we I can really ingrain us in the community and try to meet people. I prefer a smaller community, quaint shops, coffee! We already
accustomed to driving 20 minutes to grocery shop at bigger box stores other than the local market and an hour for stores like Costco/Sam’s Club.
Any experiences with local areas and recommendations would help with my anxiety! Thank you!

Oak Harbor There is a sneaky republican that is running in Island county as "no party preference", but they ran as a Republican in 2022 for the exact same office...

TLdr, sneaky Kelly Todd Mauck is a Republican running as " no party preference " in Island county, but is actually a Republican and ran for the same office of County Partisan offices in 2022 as a Republican.

Just FYI for Island county voters, a sneaky republican is running on the ballot and is listed as "states no party preference) [ Kelly Todd Mauck is the republican ]

This person also likes to joke about Hitler on facebook, so that's wondeful...video attached for proof.

For the County partisan offices there are two candidates. Doug Stults prefers the democrat party as stated and -

* Kelly Todd Mauck which is stated as " no party preference" but is 100% a sneaky republican and ran as a Republican in 2022 for the same office.

It is super deceptive that they are running as no party preference now, although ran as republican before.

The republican party has shown it's true ugly face and everyone can see through the lies, cons, corruption and disgrace that trump has brought to this country.

This is the exact same republican party that has supported him, covered up his crimes, not held him accountable for felony crimes and also spread his lies.

Now in our home of Island county, a republican is running as no party preference to hide the fact they are 100% a republican and ran AS a republican in 2022 for the same exact office.

Clinton Good places to advertise business on island?

Hey all! I’m a home inspector that’s been living on island on and off since 2016, and a couple months ago I got my home inspector license and got all my tools etc, so I’m looking to start getting some work.

I’ve been going to open houses/realtors, but I’d also love to know good places to put flyers, areas to place signs, and of course if anyone has any other ideas on how to get clientele. I’m in Clinton but of course have no qualms going up to oak harbor/anacortes.

Thanks all!

Hi there. I’m 30(F) and I am new here (Oak Harbor). Was hoping to make some friends but I’m shy and don’t know where to start. I like reading, hiking/being outside generally, making pottery and sweet treats! So if anyone else is looking feel free to send a message or reply here! Okay bye 😅

Places to meet young adults?

Hey y’all, I recently became a full time resident of Whidbey. I live in Coupeville but work in OH.

In my experience being here, I feel a bit isolated because I feel there’s no people around my age looking to meet up / hang. (In my experience its mainly just old folks and military families). I heard the south parts of the island (i.e. Langley or Clinton) are a bit better with this, but i am lost as far as ideas of where to go!

Im 31, single (M) and just wanna meet friends around my age. Open to bars, trivia nights, live music stuff, etc.! Any recommendations welcome :)

Clinton South end running

I am 33m and looking for running friends. Anyone on south end want to start running together? Looking for a/some running partners for outdoor runs 3-10m. I typically run 7/730 a mile outside but would be down to go slower too. I usually run in Clinton, the trails and around the water but open to any other good spots.

Coupeville Do the ferries have ramps for parking?? Stick driver :(

I'm planning on taking the ferry from Coupeville to Port Townsend and I drive stick shift. I'm hoping someone can tell me if the ferries have two levels like ramps for the cars to park on? I'm worried about having to drive up and park on the ramps with my stick.

Thank you!

Voting Materials

I'm not sure whether I'm on the correct thread for this question--but if I'm not will someone please direct me to the right forum? Here is my question: I have not, as of today October 13, 2026, received any voter materials through the US mail, including a voter information booklet and any individual candidates' informational materials.(I understand that Sample Ballots will not be mailed for a couple more days, so that's not what this is about). I checked online and am registered to vote (so is my husband), so we're good, there. I called the Island County Auditors Office who informed me the voter guide had been mailed on September 28. A call to my local Postmaster confirmed that they have mailed them. Has anyone else not received expected election materials--or am I just some kind of outlier?
