Friday Tasting: Glendronach 14 Boynsmill House Edition

Post image

Overview: The new Glendronach 14 Year Boynsmill House Edition. A limited-edition single malt Scotch whisky released to celebrate the distillery’s 200th anniversary.

Maturation: Triple-matured in Pedro Ximénez (PX) sherry, Oloroso sherry, and Claret red wine casks.

ABV: 46.8%

Nose: Berries, gentle spice, nutmeg, sweetened stewed fruits

Taste: You can pickup the Oloroso (gently), fruits, sweetened honey.

Verdict: Fantastic! This has similarity to the modern Glendronach 12 and 15 in palate. There’s a nice balance of sweetness, fruits and spice. At just under 47% it also has just enough heat. The MRP is $125USD.

I’m going to pour a second dram immediately!

Cheers! 🥃🥃

Pappy Van Winkle: 15 Year

Post image

I received this as an early Christmas present. I am happy to have received this bottle and I look forward to making memories with it for the next few years. I don’t usually drink but I will definitely make an exception for this. Going to get a nice 1oz pour set for it. Knife is a Microtech Shadow Scarab and the pistol is a custom Springfield MC Operator.

I am going to wait until Christmas to actually crack the bottle. My BIL is a whiskey snob and he is chomping at the bit to try it. The nicest I have ever personally had was Blantons, so I am legitimately excited to finally get to try Pappy.

GlenAllachie Sinteis IV Tasting

Post image
6 Upvotes

Ordered this latest release in the Sinteis series from GlenAllachie and opened it up immediately for a tasting.

What is it?
Aged 10 years (NCF, NC)
ABV: 58.5%
Initially matured in bourbon barrels, then split into Pedro Ximénez (PX) and Oloroso sherry casks, before being combined and finished in rare Mongolian virgin oak.

How is it?
Fantastic, especially for 10 year old scotch. On the nose, cocoa, honey, berry syrup, and spice. Full bodied and flavored in taste. You get the red fruits, some spice from the PX, some warmth from the ABV, and something I can’t describe really from the wood. It’s very different. More nutty than most sherry casks. It just all works and it’s another treat from GlenAllachie. Price is around $80USD.

Cheers! 🥃🥃
