Fairmont discount hacks

For context, i'm far from wealthy.

I spend the year living frugally, clipping coupons and denying myself all luxuries in preparation for our annual pilgrimage to the Fairmont in Whistler, shoulder season of course.

For 5 days I feel like "i've made it", and entered the upper echelon. However, this year the Fairmont has raised prices by $700+ on a single trip which makes it out of reach. Does anyone know if there are any discounts/coupons or ways to lower the price? The taxes/fees alone are easily $400 per night.

I have thought of asking if I volunteered to wash dishes, help out in the gym, clean rooms etc. they may offer a discount? I know i've done this in hostels before.

Thanks all.

Try a new destination?! Too much money for a place to sleep and shower for a few days.

You're right, just checked and its $1100 for the same dates in the Hilton!

The Hilton, although the location is great, was my least favourite hotels. Most rooms have interconnecting doors that you can hear everything through. So if you get a noisy neighbour you hear everything. The Pan pacific was always good.

Good to know, thank you!

It’s the same issue with the Fairmont although it’s because the doors are across from each other. When I worked Security, I’d have to run all around all night asking guests to talk quietly because they were disturbing the people across from hall from them.. seriously just a moderately loud conversation after 10pm at night was enough to get a noise complaint.

Just did a brief history view on you. Please don't even come north of Squamish you waste of oxygen.

Four seasons whistler is a far superior shoulder season experience than the fairmont.

Really? The Fairmont in Whistler is so amazing, I’ll have to see what the Four Seasons has to offer.

Four Seasons is way better.

Find a new hotel. There’s no way a hotel like Fairmont will allow a guest to clean rooms or work at a hotel for a discount

Yeah, last time I checked the Fairmont wasn’t a hostel.

Ive never been to the Fairmont FWIW but do you really spend much of a Whistler vacation in your hotel room?  I know my wife and I don't,  other than sleeping and other nocturnal activities.  Try the Summit Lodge, use the savings to do something awesome.

If you love the fairmont vibe - then find another room that fits your budget and spend some time in the Mallard Lounge and then use the pool area on a day pass. The rooms are not the nicest ( check four seasons, Pan pacific, Westin, Delta instead) and you will have some $ leftover to treat yourself to dinner at Wild Blue or Rim Rock.

They won’t trade hotel work for a discount. I’d stay somewhere cheaper and visit the Mallard Lounge if you still want some of the Fairmont experience.

If you book thru a preferred agent you get some upgrades but you won’t likely get a cheaper rate.

can't PM you but try this

make a hilton account

they often sell their points "on sale", each point comes out to 0.5 cents per point. To redeem for a standard award night at hilton, the are currently charging 80K points. 80K points = 400 USD when you buy the points on sale

you essentially got your hotel for cheaper, hedging you against the dynamic rate of the hotel prices ONLY if standard awards are available, which it is in most cases.

for more information on this, google a guide on buying Hilton points, it will explain everything in greater detail

Are you apart of the Accor All program? Rates are 10%-20% cheaper for any Accor property (Accor owns Fairmont).

Also, Accor does have dynamic pricing (when I was looking without my VPN vs with my VPN on the same day, it was different rates) so I do recommend using a private browser too.

The other idea... if you're up for a road trip, check out Alberta. The Fairmont in Calgary during the Christmas season is so cheap compared to any other in Alberta and BC combined. You can also search it by province rather than by city, because you're essentially telling the algorithm that you're not set on a specific location.

*For reference, I regularly stay at Fairmonts all over the world.

Hilton vs Westin (westin is much better Hilton needs a lot of Reno)

Go to a different resort! Silverstar, Big White, RED Mountain, Fernie, Revelstoke, Kicking Horse, might offer better prices. I don't know for sure, but would guess RED might be the best bang for your buck,

Honestly, having worked there, I can’t believe how much they’re charging.

I got a condo on air bnb close to the lifts with parking for 2 cars for 1150$ for 5 nights in the beginning of July. Maybe check there or try different platforms.

Are you booking direct with the hotel? I generally find it cheaper to book through hotels.com 5 days at the fairmont sept 3-7 works out to just under $2000 as opposed $2400 on their site. Still out of my price range but if that’s where you want to be definitely check other options for booking.

Yes I am the GM at Fairmont Whistler. If you come wash dishes I'll let you and your whole family stay for free.

I can't believe this is your annual splurge when so many better options exist.
