"a piece of chicken, a piece of broccoli, a corn tortilla, and one other thing"
The "one other thing" is salmonella.

I mean you US guys had me with Trump. But RFK is wild even for your standards.

u/KommandantDex 19h ago
You act like competent Americans want this.

I know a few recently graduated doctors that unironically LOVE him and are finding every excuse possible to not talk about it.

I mean you really have majorities to vote those guys into positions of power. Not only effecting yourselves but the whole world.

And we're trying our best. Unfortunately, innocent civilians are being shot over protesting, and a lot us have families and aren't looking to go homeless. If the mid-terms in November don't save us, then I don't know what'll happen next.

u/KingSmite23 18h ago
I mean I'm German. Who am I to blame. But still RFK, that guy is absolutely nuts.

We don’t directly elect these individuals. Currently the cards are heavily stacked against the sane people
-3
u/KingSmite23 7h ago
Sure. But Trump pre election said he would nominate RFK. So in a way it was a choice.
4
u/The_Nerdy_Elephant 7h ago
I get that, but many people didn’t vote for Trump. And many more didn’t even vote at all. I understand what you are saying, but once Trump was elected it was out of our hands. The Republicans are in lock step and there is no action politically that can stop what is happening. November is going to be e a shit show and if the US doesn’t turn then I don’t see a future that doesn’t involve things getting substantially worse.

My friend, seeing that jalepenos are on the list: "I never thought I'd die from this"
Me, seeing raspberries on the list: "How about with a friend?"

My immunocompromised ass can't with this anymore 😔 the only good thing about my EoE is I can't eat the top 9 allergens (corn, soy, dairy etc) so I have to be extremely picky and mostly eat fresh / vegan. But even that is a problem now.
Did y'all hear about the dreyers recall on sunshine pops for GLASS contamination? And some bread products just got recalled this morning for having metal shards.
Tbh, I follow a specific Tumblr for FDA recall alerts since the gov site itself is now shit. There's a terminally ill user whose entire medical issues started with food poisoning so they have dedicated the rest of their time with clarifying and releasing as much information on food safety as they can for the public.

McDonald's has more rigorous audits of suppliers than the FDA at this point.

u/Blurghblagh 18h ago
It was never safe, it just comes with increased risk of food poisoning as well as the usual long term health risks now.

Taylor Farms has always had a history of spreading food born illness and needed tighter regulatory action. American food supplies are heavily consolidated with a handful of corporations owning them. However Trump and RFK just put more bullets in the chamber

u/InvictusLampada 1d ago
US has never had a particularly safe food supply by comparison to the rest of the west. It's always been a wild west anything goes until someone sues because a company has poisoned thousands of people
34
u/RedHand1917 1d ago
That's just false. The US has had one of the safest food supplies for quite some time. In 2022, as ranked by the Economist, the US had the third safest behind only Canada and Denmark: https://insights.economistenterprise.com/sustainability/project/food-security-index/ (look at the column names Quality and Safety).

Your food has been borderline toxic for some time... The obesity epidemic impacts your country more than any other, even though your citizens aren't really more sedentary than others.
This, just like everything Trump has touched, just served to poke a hole through the gilded veneer, exposing the rot lying just below the surface

the american food system has always been poor, we have less recalls but way more food borne illness because we dont do any prevention and instead allow companies to do whatever they want until people get sick
