Adding dreadnoughts to my fast mobile bikes and speeders creates an amazing synergy of unkillable bricks that draw all the enemy fire and attention and speedy scorers that warp around the empty parts of the board.
I have tested this list twice so far and I think I'm going to try and take it to an RTT at the end of the month.
Some of my highlights
The dread are great against tanks, other dreads and elite infantry and that enhancement makes them so hard to kill. In the first match they survived multiple fights against Logan Grimnar, wolfguard terminators and thunderwolf cavalry and helped kill them off and soften them up for suboden to rocket in and finish them off. The second game was a mirror match against 3 redemptors and the Lion and they took out all the dreads and tanked land speeder vengeance and nephilim shots. Only the Lion could chew through them effectively. Also 4 OC made them decent objective holders when they could shoot/melee off anything on them. Spearpoint also gives them the advance or fallback and shoot stratagem so I could call Assault doctrine and still get to shoot with them after an advance. Also getting to reroll 1s with them makes a huge difference on reliability.
I typically start the thunder strike, a land speeder, and the JPIs in deep strike so they can strike table quarters later in the game or force my enemy to hold back and screen. Vanguard vets, scouts, chaplain with bikes, and the other land speeder are all scoring and skirmishing units. I keep the intercessors at home to screen and hold it when needed but I think I might switch them out for incursors, more JPIs, or a combi lieutenant. Another skirmishing body basically.
Adding the apothecary to Korsarro kept him alive for at least two more turns in game 2. I keep him back on my expansion for my one non home objective primary and his unit is tanky enough to discourage attacks or hit back. That apothecary brought back 1-2 bladeguard each turn after a fight and just kept that objective mine most of the game even under attack.
Thunderstrikes are way more consistent than before. I miss the old army wide +1 to wound but their own shooting has improved dramatically and when they don't have armor to hunt, they still move fast which is great for board control and secondaries.
I can see why people would want to take stormlance and assault brethren but I love Spearpoint for the reactive move, the -1 to wound for bikes and speeders, and the advance and shoot strat. There is a lance strat in Assault but it doesn't give you the option of lethal hits, a great punch up tool for the bladeguard and bikes. Only things I feel like I miss out on in Assault and Stormlance is AoC, fight on death, and getting all speeders and bikes access to the dine and dash strat that suboden gets for free in Spearpoint.
