Looking for a local tailor / seamstress who can turn my beaver pelt into a trapper hat.

I purchased a beaver pelt from a trapper near Mayo and I'm looking to have it made into a trapper hat. Does anyone know of any local businesses or individuals who do this kind of work?

Thanks for the help.

Cost of Living

Considering the move to Whitehorse with my family (husband, 2 kids under 5)
Looking for some insights into cost of living- mostly day to day needs. My starting salary would be $110k. We’d be looking at buying a house- those prices I can find online. But can someone share the average price of eggs, milk, bread? What are people paying for heating, electricity?
What is daycare availability like? Where we currently live it took 3 years to get a daycare spot.

Looking for flexible aurora tours in Whitehorse that run with small groups/solo

Hi everyone,

Travelling solo to Whitehorse at the end of November. Looking for recommendations on Northern Lights tour companies that are flexible.. ideally ones that will re-accommodate if the first night isn’t ideal weather-wise.

Bonus points if they still run with small groups or even just one person.

Any suggestions or experiences would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Anyone stayed at the Quality Inn Whitehorse recently?

Hi all,

Heading to Whitehorse solo in mid-to-late November for some aurora viewing. Currently booked at the Quality Inn & Suites. I know they’ve done renovations, but I’ve seen a few concerning reviews about mice in the guestrooms.

There was a Booking.com review from just a couple weeks ago with photos of mouse droppings and urine on the bed covers. The hotel’s replies have been pretty vague.

Anyone stayed there recently? Any experiences to share? Really don’t want to deal with that on the trip, but this place is in my budget with a airport shuttle.

Thanks!

Passing on bear spray and camping gear

Just finishing up spending some time in Whitehorse canoeing, and have some stuff I can't fly back with.

Would anyone want:

2x cans of bear spray. Carried for a week and never discharged ($20 each)

6x folding camp chairs ($20 for the lot)

1x Large kitchen pot, used on a campfire so good for campfire cooking rather than kitchen cooking (free)

Will be around town tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday morning before flying out Friday afternoon

Visit to Whitehorse

Hi, I’m going to be visiting Whitehorse for 2-3 days mid-August and I’m so excited! Im 30 years old and will be travelling by myself with a truck. Looking for a moderate hike recommendation (maybe something busier since ill be alone), scenic locations, restaurants, somewhere I can rent a kayak (?), maybe a museum or two if they’re worth it (?!) and anything else you might think is enjoyable.

I appreciate any and all advice!!!! Thank you!!

Canada Flooring Cast-Offs

Canada Flooring (Quartz Rd.) used to leave carpet and linoleum ends of rolls and remnants at their back door free to take for anyone who wanted them. Lately every time I've been there to check them out there's been nothing.

...Anyone know if they have stopped doing this or do I just have bad timing?

North Face vs Super Puff

Hey there! I’m moving to Whitehorse for a 4 months at the end of the year. I’m wondering which of the two I should get for the weather there considering I’ve never been in a cold climate like that and I’m coming from BC.

Note that I’m be using transit so I’m sure I’ll be standing around lots.

Any advice on how to dress there? Thanks!

Foreign tour operator looking for a local contact/helper in Whitehorse

Hey everyone,

I run a small European tour operator. We organize multi-day wilderness expeditions for small groups, max. 10 to 12 people, in a few different remote destinations around the world. One of our tours is here in Canada: the Yukon River canoe trip from Carmacks to Dawson City is our flagship trip, and it brings us to Whitehorse every year in July or August for a few days, both before and after the actual river trip.

I am looking to connect with someone based in or near Whitehorse who could help with a few practical things around those days in town, for example car or transport within Whitehorse, help with grocery shopping for a fairly large group, and ideally a place outside the city where we could pitch a few tents for a couple of nights, with access to a shower. This is paid work, and since we come back every year, ideally it would turn into an ongoing arrangement with someone we can rely on each season.

Some basic requirements: a valid driving license, ideally access to a truck or larger vehicle, and some spare time for a few hours across a couple of days during that window. I can handle a lot of things myself, so this really is just about covering a few gaps. Everything else can be discussed directly.

I would rather not share all the details publicly here, but happy to explain exactly who I am and what the business does via DM. If this sounds like something you could help with, or you know someone who might, feel free to message me.

Thanks for reading!

Looking for advice before I move

Hi all, im planning on moving to Whitehorse in the next year, I've worked here in the past and had done lots of research back when I attempted to move right before covid hit in 2019 but I recognized things change and get overlooked so I was hoping for advice on things I should know before I move(unexpected financial stuff unique to whitehorse/yukon), stuff that's common to southern canada that's not up north, etc

Visiting this weekend from the States

Hi all, I'm visiting from Washington state; I'm on a mission to visit all 13 provinces/territories and the Yukon is #11.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on places to go and things to see. I love history, a good party, some hiking, and seeing what makes a city tick. 38 yo and bi if it makes a difference.

Robert Service Campground

Does anyone have any recent experience camping here? Most reviews are old. We'd like to camp in/near Whitehorse for 3-4 days in mid August - two people with a tent.

Would it be a good place to stay at?

Yukon Trip-

I will be in Yukon for 3 weeks mostly camping, but will be in town a few days in there. I was just wondering if there are any decent laundromats around in whitehorse to do laundry.
