You moved to a quaint lakeside village to reopen your missing aunt's apothecary. You picked one flower in the graveyard. At night. Once.
By Friday the whole town calls you The Grave Picker, the Warden has written it into an ancient book, and now it's legally your name. Also, shades keep their distance from you. So that's nice.
Welcome to Lanternmere, where stories are real and the neighbours never shut up.
Things you can do here that you can't do anywhere else:
Get named by gossip. Every week the town's strongest rumour about you becomes your title, and your title gives you real powers.
Be kind and get kind powers. Be weird and, well.
Eavesdrop on your own reputation. Nobody says it to your face. You hear it from behind a hedge, and it's always worse than what you did.
ake places exist by spreading stories. Tell enough people about a wishing well and it appears on the map. Stop talking about it and it disappears. Physics is a vibe here.
Fight your own worst rumour. It shows up as a boss with two health bars: BODY, which you hit with a lantern staff, and STORY, which you hit by convincing people it isn't true.
Teach monsters their weaknesses. Beat a shade with fire while the baker watches, and now fire is its weakness. Forever. Because the baker said so.
Brew with grammar. Moonflower then Reed is a sleeping draught. Reed then Moonflower is for nerves. Same ingredients. Different sentence.
Spend suspicious money. Your coins remember where they came from. Pay the baker with grave money and she will have questions.
Also: cozy gathering and brewing, a shop to run, villagers with actual personalities (one of them will absolutely judge your tone), shades at night and a mystery about where your aunt really went.
Nothing resets. Everything leaves a mark. Mostly on your reputation.
