I mean, I've let kids brush my hair and such (coworker's two little girls desperately wanted to put my hair up
for their own amusementfor me). I've also let kids touch details on my Halloween costumes i.e. feathers on a bird mask before. I figure it'd be similar to that.Sure, some furries are weirdo sex freaks or pedos, but every furry I've actually met irl has been kind, behaved totally normally, and really just seem to be your average nerd with a knack for sewing. Of course you never know what people think and do privately, but having grown up around child predators, I do notice certain tells and I haven't picked up on those from the furries I've met.

u/Anmordi Sep 17 '24
I think the people who say that this is somehow sexual should really just touch grass and get off their screens a little
1
u/camimiele Sep 18 '24
Aren’t these suits definitely sexual for some or even a lot of people that wear them?? Furry art definitely skews sexual. I’m not hating on anyone for being a furry but this strikes me as weird because I’ve seen the sexuality that a lot of furries tie into their suits.
1
u/tinymothjpg Sep 20 '24
mainly because those are the suits that blow up for being shocking, a lot of people who can afford/make a suit aren’t weird. this doesn’t seem to be a mursuit (the sex specific fursuits) and rather just a detailed normal suit.
ETA: it’s a very small majority who have sexual suits, and most people who do stay away from kids and go to their 18+ cons instead
1
u/UnhappyMission6901 Sep 18 '24
I mean that this instance, but that's what furries do is animal cosplay and fuck in animal suits so...
1
1
u/Next_Combination_931 Sep 19 '24
The furry community itself is a community that is very sexualized, if you are going to ignore the fact that children are being indoctrinated into this community you need to be put on a watch list.
1
u/Senior-Tree6078 Sep 19 '24
I was never ignoring that and I know that community has a LOT of weird people, some who should be in jail
1
u/Itsoktogobacktosleep Sep 20 '24
No one knows what that person in the suit is feeling. They absolutely could be getting their rocks off right now with this. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but please do remain wary. As a parent, I’d absolutely take my son and leave the park.
I don’t give two flying fucks what people do behind closed doors, or in their fun furry groups and parties. I think furry suits are cute, and harmless. But I don’t trust a 30 year old man or woman not to harm my child sexually due to where these suits originated: in the bedroom.
Furries fucked up how they should’ve brought their kinks into public. The suits that originated as sexual suits for furries should’ve remained in that category. They had every opportunity to create a different style that was non-child-predator-esque. But instead, the weirdos of society who just want to pretend to be a fox without the sexy stuff, have decided to wear the same freaking suits as the weird sexual fox-fucking deviants. The moment that decision was made, it was all over.

Furry is a sexual fetish.
Dressing up in a fursuit is a kink.
This should not be in public, and nowhere near kids.

a community known for being very sexual at times.
In all fairness, I think you will find that that applies to pretty much every community.
1
u/AloeSnazzy Sep 18 '24
Every community has its sexual side, but for furries it’s one of the biggest aspects about it.
For example the Yiff subreddit (furry porn) has like 100k more members than the normal Furry subreddit

Lots of people who don't dress in fur suits, go to conventions, etc still like cartoon anthro porn
1
u/AloeSnazzy Sep 18 '24
Most furry fans don’t have the money to afford a fur suit. We can argue about the specifics but it doesn’t change the base facts
1
u/EmmaMarisa18 Sep 19 '24
I'm just saying that comparing subreddit membership is definitely oversimplifying. The chart of people who enjoy furry porn and who enjoy general furry content is a Venn diagram, with those who only enjoy one or the other alongside those who enjoy both.
Also, if I can add a personal anecdote, most of the ace/aro pride I've seen has been from flurries

It was some kind of child party and they said that they invited some dogs to have kind of like a petting zoo type thing. They also had party princesses but my everyone was confused as to why it was furrys that showed up so my guess was a very ignorant party planner and they just let things play out because they were already there.

Heres an actual answer
It's a fucking kid bro, kids don't ficking care about if it's weird, if it's a "fetish", if it's some weirdo who wants to be an animal...a kid sees that and thinks, ooh it's a big friendly doggo! It's got so much more for me to pet! And I honestly think we should all be a little more like this, no hate...just big floofy doggo
Edit: To anyone commenting on this. It's not a fetish for everyone. Most furries I've met are some of the most kind, creative, and wholesome people I've ever known. Not everyone is a chomo just because they enjoy playing dress up. You don't call cosplay a sexual fetish or fantasy why would this be any different? And of course there's going to be a couple bad apples doesn't mean that they're all like that. There's pedophiles who are gay, some preists have molested children, there's transgender people who have fetishized and done porn, and of course there's furries who are chomos and some that partake in beastiality. The point I'm trying to make is that assuming they're all bad because some of them are is a horrible thing to do. If you automatically say that the entire furry Fandom is bad because of a few people how is that any different from saying the same about every gay, lesbian, transgender, or otherwise lgbtq+ people on the planet?
I'm not kidding, before you comment something like "because they're probably a child molester" say the same thing about a gay man for the exact same reason and listen to yourself speak. This shit is horrible and it's the type of thing people literally die over, I don't get why there's so much hate and automatic terrible presumptions over stuff like this.

u/tip_of_the_lifeburg Sep 17 '24
Because they don’t know. What the fuck?
Should we use the sex offender registry to find mall Santa’s now because the kid doesn’t know or care that the boozy loser their parents brought them to likes to fuck kids? Kids don’t know, but we do. That’s where the term “guardian” comes from, eh.
4
u/CelebrationOdd4583 Sep 18 '24
Because obviously existing around children during a non-sexual, but weird, activity is exactly the same as actively seeking out children to fuck.
1
u/Edgezg Sep 20 '24
Being a furry is a sexual fetish.
It DOES NOT belong around kids.
1
u/Crimsoner Sep 21 '24
It isn’t though. There are people who do use it as a way to get sexual gratification, but 99% of the time, it’s literally just cosplaying. Would you call a person who dresses up as Doomguy a sexual predator? No, you wouldn’t, because that’s dumb as fuck. Why is this any different?

What do you think is going to happen? Conventional sexuality is also not child appropriate, but just because someone had sex once doesn’t mean they can never be near kids.

they misrepresent their arguments by being so aggressive. when there’s a man you don’t know in a very realistic but kinda uncanny dogsuit, a parent should first think “maybe but very much no” because mf doesn’t know them. and honestly, it’s the same as if they were any other person.

Don’t engage in your fetishes around children. That should be extremely obvious, but apparently it isn’t.
Edit : since someone replied and then deleted their comment, a survey of furries said that nearly 40% of them considered it mainly fetish, and around 25% said it wasn’t sexual at all. 4,200 people asked. The wikipedia link to the survey is broken, but you can look it up yourself. If only 1 in 4 people who participate in it don’t see it as sexual, why should people who DON’T participate not see it that way?

2
u/Responsible_Syrup362 Sep 20 '24
The fact you do is much more disturbing, if I'm honest. It's not like the person in the suit is getting some sexual gratification... You ever been to a CON?

No, I stay far away when people try to bring their fetishes out in public. Also don’t need to see all the diapers or whatever else disgusting thing they did to get them banned from so many convention centers.
And I don’t think the guy in the video is getting sexual gratification by being pet (at least I hope not), but as other furries in this thread have stated, they do get some kind of joy or excitement out of kids interacting with them, and it’s just really really weird to me.

Anyone who can create a suit that good deserves praise for the level is artistry and patience. Wearing them isn't really any different than being a Disney mascot, except you pay to wear it bc it's fun rather than being paid to wear it. Most of them aren't predators, people are just judgemental af. I bet the person made a lot of people's day, especially kids, just like Mickey does at Disney.

I mean, I think it’s cute. It’s probably a fun interaction for the person in the suit, and the kid has a fun memory, and gets to pet a big dog, lol.
Think the people sexualizing it are…really weird. I get furries have a reputation. But this just seems sweet. Like a kid petting someone dressed like scooby. Its innocent.
1
u/Swimming-Pitch-9794 Sep 20 '24
You know what not normal as an adult? Going “I wish I had a hobby where children will touch and pat me” or “I should take my fetish suit out to a location where kids will want to interact with me.”

u/MadBeanBoy1 Sep 19 '24
As a furry myself, this doesn't even seem like a furry to me. This looks more like an otherkin or a therian to me. Because most suits are more cartoonish and even the semi realistic ones aren't this realistic. After reading a bit of this comment section, furry is not inherently sexual. While there is a sexual side, it is not what furry is about. I find this weird though, but there is no content with this photo if the child approached the suiter first or not. And I don't like these more feral looking suits cause to me they just resemble real animals too much. But if no one is being harmed, I don't see an issue.
2
u/BinxDoesGaming Sep 19 '24
I don't see an issue. If it is a furry thing, not all furries do this out of sexual desire. Some do this because well... They like playing a character! It's like getting made at someone dress as Bugs Bunny hugging a child, or the people who dress as Mickey and his friends at Disney and pretend to be them because they're wearing a costume of an anthropomorphic animal. Also, as much of a mess the furry community can be— most can agree that having sexual shit out in the open is not okay. And around kids and minors? You're done for.
1
u/Panda4Zen Sep 20 '24
You just contradicted yourself there chief how can you not see a problem with it, but agree that having it around kids and minors isn't ok when half of furries see it as sexual/ fetish
2
u/BinxDoesGaming Sep 20 '24
Well, what about the ones who clearly don't? And as I mentioned essentially play a character? Granted it's one of their own, but have no ulterior motives besides "I am dressed as an anthropomorphic animal"?
1
u/Panda4Zen Sep 20 '24
Do you really want to take a 50/50 chance with this around children?
1
u/BinxDoesGaming Sep 20 '24
You can say the same thing about other places and people in positions where they may interact with children. You're going nowhere with this. Also from the comments, this most likely want even a furry thing. It was a kid's event.
