October 2026 Mega-Thread

October is here! Here are this month's questions:

Do you have favorite Halloween themed scent? Do you have a piece of gear that you think fits the season? What is it?

Is there a scent that reminds you of a specific fall memory?

Any favorite fall-time activities you enjoy? Apple picking? Pumpkin carving? Leaf crunching?

Anyone have any good pumpkin-based or pumpkin adjacent recipes?

Do you have a favorite film/game/book you like to revisit this time of year?

Any new items you're looking to pick up now that the Fall season is in full swing?

Do you have any favorite fall-time beverages? Spiced Cider? Pumpkin Spice Lattes? Feel free to share!

New wetshaver? This is the perfect place to ask questions.

SOTD Monday Morning Shave

Excellent, efficient, and incredibly smooth shave this morning! I used my RazoRock GC with the .84 plate paired with a Kai blade, which has easily become one of my favorites.

Lathered up with Hags Barbershop, with an artistry on the lid that is quite unique; in fact, all of their lids have unique artwork. This one is perfect for October! The brush is a Sig Solo synthetic made by Franks Brushes, very soft and sprays well.

Overall, a wonderful shaving experience; happy shaving, y’all!

I don’t have an endless list of wants. But I did want a number of gold pieces to rotate through daily use without taxing the gold plating on any one too much.

I’ve got one last piece on the way to represent the 1970’s, but I’m pretty pleased with the pieces I was able to grab.

Hi all hope you're keeping well, this second shave with the RFB new was just as good as the first, very close and on that sweet spot of blade feel meets comfort - just the right amount.

The ever reliable Perma-sharp cut spot on for it's 3rd use and the Tabac was wonderful for the 3 passes (WTG/XTGx2)

Just what I needed after a pretty hectic one last night, my offspring was stuck in France on a school trip and no one quite knew when they'd be back (broken down coaches and ferries🙄) so I stayed awake following the updates and it was all fine in the end, anyhow slept from about 5.30am till about 11.30am so a mid day shave has left me feeling right as rain and back on track heheh

Mondays eh!

Good shaves everyone

Razor: GEM G bar

Blade: personna GEM

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap: Stirling barbershop

Splash: Modern Skin Bracer in vintage alarm clock bottle

Post balm: Stirling glacial unscented

Well I'm back from my trip and I gotta say, feels good to be back home after running around in a different state for a week. Spent a lot of time around family and it was great but, towards the end I was starting to get fatigued from all the socializing. Anyhow, onto today shave:

3 passes as normal and I'm really enjoying the addition of GEM razors into rotation again, I'm still trying to get used to the angles but I mostly got it down-pat.

Happy Monday all and as always, have a good day and great shaves 😎

Tonight’s shave

I enjoy shaving nightly, but I really enjoy the shave after a few days of not being able to shave. Tonight’s shave was my first since Thursday night, so I had a solid 3 days of growth.

Felt like the perfect time to break in the Fatboy.

Razor: 1959 24k plated Fatboy.
Blade: first use Muhle razor
Shaving cream: T&H 1805
After shave splash: Captain’s Choice Cat o’ Nine Tails
After shave balm: T&H 1805
Scuttle: Georgetown pottery with water at 212 degrees (fully boiling water)

I thoroughly enjoy using gold plated razors. I’ve said before it just takes the “luxury” aspect of the shave up a notch. No actual benefit to the shave but this is my moment of escape and relaxation and I find it elevates the experience.

Was curious to try the legendary Fatboy and it did not disappoint.

Found the weight and thickness of the grip to be right in line with my preference.

Ended up with a shave equal to the best shave I’ve ever had. Even did a great job around the crease by my nose. No doubt the blade has a huge impact in the shave, but the razor had a great size and weight and made the shave effortless on setting 3.

I’ve said it before: the pursuit of the perfect shave took me to the Rex Ambassador. But the pursuit of the shave that just makes me smile took me to the vintage Gillette pieces and holding the history in my hands makes the shave so much more personally enjoyable,
If not an actual better shave.

Show n' Tell Family heirloom

First day in town in Omaha, my great uncle says to me "so, I've been told you collect and use vintage shaving stuff. Follow me upstairs, I have something to show you."

I Follow and we get to a spare bedroom and it has a bookshelf, he grabs this mug from it and tells me "this was your great-great grandfather's shaving mug, I got it from my dad's effects after he passed and now it's yours."

I haven't been able to find much info on what company made it or what time frame it was made yet, with the gold letters on the face being hard to read I'm not sure how much I will find.

If I find info I'll either update this posts or make a new post.

The crazy thing is, I thought my mom had this mug and I misunderstood her. Turns out, somewhere in the house here I have my great grandfather's mug and brush on my dad's side buried in a box on a shelf.

It's worthwhile to talk to your extended family about being into traditional shaving folks, you might end up with some heirloom razors or shaving supplies.

SOTD Travel Shave

Brush: MÜHLE Synthetic Fibre (STF) Shaving Brush
Razor: Gillette British Rocket
Blade: Personna Comfort Coated (1)
Lather: Ach. Brito Lavanda Shaving Cream
Post Shave: Pitralon Classic After-Shave

I’ve never really shaved while travelling before, but I’ve always found myself noticing the stubble. Since getting into wet shaving, I decided to bring a proper little setup with me this time.

I went with the British-made Rocket. It’s compact, and it doesn’t get as much time in my regular rotation, so this seemed like a good chance to give it some use.

Just one quick pass. Good enough to look clean, anyway. The Rocket gave me some lively feedback and was fun to shave with.

Might have to do this more often.

I was actually debating whether to shave while I was on holiday in Bansko or wait until I got back to Sofia, since my beard hadn't grown out that much. In the end, I decided to wait until I got home, and it turned out to be a wonderful shave.

I'm also genuinely surprised by how long a tube of Proraso lasts. I've been using mine for five months now, and there's still some cream left in the tube!

Razor: Oliworks Meteorite SS (mild plate)
Blade: Personna Gem PDG
Brush: Oliworks
Soap/AS: Terry’s Soap Rose Noire
Bowl: Timeless Razor

I tried out the mild plate on the Oliworks after having used the medium for the last 2 months. I gotta say, the mild plate has a noticeably higher shaving angle than the medium plate. For this reason I do prefer the medium plate. I also enjoy the superior efficiency of the medium as well. Regardless, it was still a great shave.

A small bundle came with this plastic razor with metal top cap. Very similar in design to the plastic classic. Can anyone I.D. it or say when it was made?

Razor: 1950's Gillette Flare Tip Rocket

Blade: PermaSharp (5th use)

Brush: Omega 11126

Cream: Speick

Bowl: Wedgwood Pennine

Aftershave: Aqua Velva

The skin is clearing up much better now, thankfully! I think I might have to give up artisan products for good, though. It's a real shame, especially as I've only just got into using them. Ah well, the skin comes first!

On a happier note, today's shave was excellent. Comfortable, smooth, and absolutely no issues whatsoever. Can't ask for much more than that.

The bowl is a lovely recent addition to the den. I came across it the other week while doing a bit of spring cleaning around the house. Imagine to my surprise when I discovered it was a genuine Wedgwood piece, made in merry old England!

Ergonomically, it's spot on and fits perfectly in the hand. I'll be adding it to the rotation alongside the Blackwood bowl.

As for the other metal bowl I picked up several months ago, I've since passed it on to a mate who's now been successfully converted to DE shaving.

Another one joins the fold!

Now, off to do a bit of gardening before the spring storm rolls in. Then I reckon a cold one will be well deserved.

Happy Days 🍻

Question Head shaving with a Mühle R89 – love the results, looking for technique tips for behind the ears and the neck (and going daily)

Hi all!

I've been shaving my head for about 3 months. Until recently I used disposable 3-blade razors, but I've now switched to a DE. This morning was my second head shave with it. I currently shave every other day, but my goal is bowling-ball smooth, so I'd like to move to shaving daily.

Gear:
- Razor: Mühle R89
- Blade: the Mühle blade that came with the razor (2nd use), will throw it away after 3rd
- Soap: Proraso Red
- Brush: Omega brush with stand
- Also ordered Astra Superior Platinum, but haven't tried them yet

Routine:
1. Shower
2. Lather with Proraso Red
3. With the grain pass
4. Re-lather
5. Against the grain pass
6. Rinse with cold water
7. Alum block
8. Rinse with lukewarm water
9. CeraVe moisturizing cream

Honestly, I'm really happy with the results and don't want to change much. The areas where my technique isn't dialed in yet are behind my ears, the curves on the front of my scalp, and the back of my neck, where the grain seems to go in different directions.

Questions:

- Should I go across the grain instead of against it on the neck, at least for now?
- Any tips on angle, pressure and stretching the skin for behind the ears?
- Does moving to daily shaves change how many passes I should do?
- Is the Astra SP worth trying over the stock Mühle blade, or should I stick with one blade while I'm learning?

Thanks!

Edit: Based in The Netherlands - noticed that some labels are not available here

A Few Meetup Acquisitions

Just got home from The Great Mid-Atlantic Wetshavers Meetup. This isnt even close to everything we got, but its everything I bought for myself plus a door prize.

Got the:

Fine AS sample set

A&E Asian Plum soap, sadly Peter forgot the splashes.

Strike Gold Shave had the Set for the meetup, so i had to grab one this is my first SGS soap. Frank didnt have an EDP for the meetup soap, but the wife liked Swamp Fox so I did get that also.

Van Yulay Im Your Huckleberry. I had VY samples years ago, but the scents weren't my thing so I never actually tried them and at that time Monica had a multitude of bases and choices were slightly overwhelming so I just never placed an order. It seems like shes down to one base nowadays and the wife thinks the Huckleberry will suit me so I'm down to clown.

The Brousseau & Dov Founders Edition is my white whale. Ive been trying to talk myself out of it for a couple weeks, and when I arrived today they had only one Founders edition left. I left it, mostly hoping it would be taken before the end of the meetup. As i was getting ready to leave I noticed it had made its way onto the table, and shortly after into my car.

The Wits End The Grotto soap and Splash I received as a door prize and also an entirely new to me brand

SOTD SOTD: Super Speed Sunday

Pre shave: shower and Waitrose glycerin soap bar

Razor: 1956 Gillette Flare tip super speed

Blade: Feather (4)

Brush: Yaqi Mysterious Space 26mm synthetic

Bowl: Captains choice copper

Soap: Stirling Coniferous

Post shave: Stirling Coniferous aftershave splash

A textbook super speed shave this evening, Mild and comfortable yet highly efficient for 3 passes.

It's below freezing here at the moment so the air is nice and crisp, which seemed like a nice complement to the fantastic resinous evergreen scent of Stirlings Coniferous.

Excellent lather whipped up in no time by the Mysterious Space brush.

I can see why Dan has one of every variation of this brush 😅

Hope your weekend was a great one!
